  1. I most fish a wacky rig on the slow to very slow side but a friend of mine fishes it with a pretty fast twitchy retrieve and has great success, even early season when the waters are still cold. When the depth is more than 6'-7' I will put on a 1/8oz weight to minimize the drop time and increase the time it will be in the strike zone. My buddy always fishes it with at least a 1/8oz weight with the fast retrieve and does very well with that technique. So don't be afraid to experiment with various retrieves. - tate
  2. Jiggy PondX is calling our names.
  3. I hope the surgery goes well. This will soon be a distant memory and you're back on the waters!
  4. I find it hard to think of the Chiefs as an elite team. The playoffs are a whole different game. I wouldn't be concerned if the Patriots were playing the Chiefs in the playoffs.
  5. Fished Webster on Saturday, water temps around 66 under cloudy skies. Fishing was really slow for the first 3 hours....we were throwing, jigs, spinnerbaits, grubs, soft swim baits and wacky rigged senko's. Interesting how it was really slow hitting many of the usual spots but then tried a new area and we lit it up catching a bunch in the 3lb range and lost a few at the boat also. Most of them came on a 3.5" soft swim bait rigged on a tungsten 1/8 ounce 2/0 jig head.
  6. That is one tall glass of water!
  7. I'm hoping to make it this year and plan on bringing my boat. Made a deal with the wife that she will head to Fla to visit a friend that week.
  8. Spent the week of Sept 15 on North Hero. The smallie and largemouth bite was really good, we caught a bunch of quality fish. We found then as shallow as 6' and up to 22', water temps 63, slower was better. Had a blast up there.
  9. I understand extending courtesy to others and I personally will not jump in front or anywhere near someone fishing (unless Grampa or Rhino, lol) but I also accept the fact that I don't own the lake and that folks are free to come/go and fish where ever they choose. I hate to give in and move because someone just pulled within 20 feet of me but I usually will just move away. I just experienced this repeatedly up on Champlain for the week. It was amazing to me with the size of that lake and so many places to fish that boats will pull right up to where you are. In one case they pulled right up to where I was casting and they could see that I was casting to that spot. There are plenty of fish in the pond so I just moved along, not worth getting ticked off during a great day on the water fishing.
  10. Just got back from a week on Northern Champlain. We found the most effective smallie lures were tubes and curly tale grubs in natural colors, in the gin clear water areas the watermellon/orange/copper/red senko's worked well and the most productive were 3.8'' Keitech Tenn. Shad swimbaits on the 1/8oz, 2/0 or 3/0 tungsten jig heads.
  11. Congratulations to you and your son! Very cool
  12. wow thank god it didn't get your eye! A solid reminder to all of us on the importance of wearing glasses when we're out there.
  13. Yikes 3000 .... and that is a small order. Sounds like a great deal though.
  14. I really like the Hudd Grass Minnow .... I've had my best results using it springtime in New England, gin clear water and 6-10' water in the AYU color. The Smallie's really like them.
  15. I'm more than happy with my Triton 19SE, quality boat. I think an important part of deciding which boat is the proximity and quality of the dealer .... general maintenance is one thing but with a boat specific problem post sale support is important.
  16. 2011 Ford F150 FX4 full crew cab, Ecoboost ( V.6 3.5 liter twin turbo)...... truck and engine full of technology. Develops lots of torque and hp at fairly low RPMs. Truck easily tows my Triton 19, I think boat and trailer is around a third of the max tow rating. Plenty of suspension and no sag, not sure what my trailers tongue weight is. With surge brakes on the trailer braking seems the same with or without trailer. Milage is probably close to other trucks and engines in class. Towing the Triton I get 12.5 and regular driving I'm around 17-18. I can get the 22 but that is working at. Even as a half ton truck it's towing rating is higher than my last truck a Chevy 2500 crew 3/4 ton with 6 Liter. (8.5mpg towing, 12 reg driving) Chevy made it to 195k with no problems and real hard miles.
  17. I have no clue ..... but I would think so, as I suspect most fish are caught and released many times and while you often see holes/tears from previous catches I would expect to see more if they didn't heal over.
  18. I'm hoping my work schedule will allow me to make this one.
  19. Great Mexican food just outside San Jose. Maria Elena's Restaurant, Alviso, CA ... Not fancy but off the beaten path and authenticate ... Cool place.
  20. Here is my new rig ...... traded my Alumacraft MV 1756SC for this new leftover 2012 Triton 19SE (19'9"). Nice setup with a bunch of XS options and a 225 Optimax Pro XS. The boat came with a Lowrance Mark-5X flush mount in console, I added a HDS 7 Gen 2 Touch on a RAM mount at the console, a HDS 5 Gen 2 on a RAM mount at the bow. Did a Structure Scan ducer and sonar ducer off the transom and a sonar ducer up front on the trolling motor. Connected the HDS units on an Ethernet network to allow sharing the Structure Scan ducer, waypoints, ect. Also added a wireless access point and external GPS antenna.
  21. If it is legal I would respectfully inform the owner that you checked with environmental police and they said it is legal. I would then recommend the landowner can call and have them verify for him or you can call the police now.
  22. Sorry to hear about the damage .... That really su.....s! Fortunately no one got hurt and BoatUS did their job well! Hopefully insurance takes some of the pain and gets you back on the water soon.
  23. NEjitterbugger those are some dang nice fish! Bonus points for having the PFD on. Sounds like the Charles is really producing .... on our list for this year. For whatever reason there seems to be more quality bass this year.
  24. Congratulations!! Nice looking rig, enjoy
