  1. i disagree . crappie are plentiful and abundant . as long as you dont go over the limit your ok . there is a reason state biologist work with the fish and game dept. on limit amounts . good job young man , looks like a fish fry coming up
  2. How was the fishing at Benbrook? I know its relatively close to their house. I hear lake Granbury had like a massive fish kill so its no good anymore. IDK if there is much truth to it I'm a Va head. do ya have a big population of carp and bufflo fisherman in VA ?
  3. they have a good crapppie house the . rocky creek marina .i went there a few times when gas prices were decent lol . winter barge fishhing in texas , you cant beat it i think they come in there in the spring too but not sure how good .. yeah i heard about grandbury but thats been a couple of years back .
  4. thanks hookinem' yeah grandbury is about an hour and a half from me " i have never fished it but i have fished benbrook which is kinda close to there
  5. you can also find crappie before winter sets in ,in shallow water ( 6 ft ) by piers . the usually bite there at night . when winter sets in the shad go to feeder creeks (shallower water that warms thruout the day with sunlight )and the crappie follow .the best times are an hour before sundown . they can be in water from 4 to 12 feet .(use a slip bobber and try different depths to find a pattern) jig and bobber combinations are a good way to fish this time of year especially because baiting minnnows this time of the year can chill the fingers lol and they also seem to like smaller baits .after winter comes spring and they will spawn in real shallow water , this time of the year you can catch them with jig or minnow under a bobber from 12 -18 inches . then summer comes and you will find them in deerper waters from 20 to 30 ft .using minnows in tmbered areas is a good place to find them . i always fished the shady side of the tree trunk and let the minnows all the way down and reeled up very slow till i got a bite .when the action stopped i would go to a different tree and do the same . this is a good way to increase your numbers . some people stay in one spot once they find some but most spots only hold a certain amount of fish . so its important to move often in the hot summer when boat fishing . hope this helps and gives you some ideas on where to find them .of course there are always exceptions to these guidlines .. tight lines ! w/r/j
  6. Hi guys and gals , newbie to the forum looks like a nice one . im a 52 yr old man from Dallas , Tx . i have been fishing since i was 13 . we had some 65 (or older , its hard to judge ages when your 13 lol ) neighbors . and he would take me out in his jon boat fishing on weekends and we would fish for brim with live worms ( which he grew in 2 old washing maching tubs in his basement , the ones with the squeegie rollers on top) hehe. when i was older and in high school ,i got my first car ( a 64 malibu suoer sport ) . mu friend and i would spend the weekend at nearby lacks and fish for crappie with minnows and bobbers . then when i got to be around 26 i got my first boat ( a 72 ski boat with a walk thru windsheld and a evinrude 50 hp ) there wasnt a limit then and i would bring home more than 5o at a time (fished about a 4 hour period) and invite all my brothers and sisters for fish fry's . after a few years the boat was costing more than i wanted to spend so i went back to bank fishing . i fished for crappie , cats and bream . then i learned to use a plastic worm and was hooked on that . one day while bass fishing i noticed some old timers hauling in these huge fish ( the were carp and smallmouth buffalos ) so i learned that and literally fell in love with it . now at age 52 those are my 2 primary loves ( bass and rough fish ) . there is nothing like the fight of a midteen carp that i have ever experienced . well i could ramble on and on but will stop here . tight lines to all and hope to make some new friends here and share the bank with you
