  1. Like Sam said...Watch out for slippery surfaces. I am sitting here on my butt because I went out fishing right after a hard rain and slipped down a bank and tore a tendon in my ankle
  2. I know of a boat ramp where the Hardware dumps into the James. Never been there before, but I think I will ride down there and scope it out.
  3. Albemarle county area
  4. Does any of my fellow Virginia fishermen here know of any good spots to fish off the banks of the James somewhere in the central Virginia area? I want to do some smallie and catfishing and do not have a boat. I know of a couple places in the Albemarle area, but one of them is on the railroad property, so I really do not want to fish there. Just looking for a couple of nice spots where I can set up my catfish poles, and do some small mouth fishing, and not have to travel to far.
  5. Sorry it took me a while to reply kaotic1 been a crazy week here..Yes we fished the rip-rap and the hangover brush and had luck with both...Everything we caught was off a wacky rig.
  6. kaotic1 when my buddy and I went we basicly got on the boat and made a left from the boat dock and fished the dock all the way to the standing timber, we caught bass in every cove and every spot we went, of course the bass got bigger once we got into the standing timer.
  7. Hello everyone, my name is Bobby and I am a fishing addict. I can pretty much say that no intervention will save me from this fishing addiction. I got hooked when I was just in grade school after catching my first brim off a night crawler and ever since then I have done nothing but try to scheme my next fishing adventure.
  8. Nice catch there Kaotic1 the fist time there at sandy was enough to get me hooked on that place. Now all I need to do is get my own boat and get back there again.
  9. That would be awesome to see HookNLook film at show at either place.
  10. I caught a 4 pounder in the standing timber. Was talking to a oldtimer at the boat ramp and he told us a guy caught a 13 pound bass a few weeks ago bank fishing.
  11. To all my fellow Va fishermen out there, if you guys have never fished Sandy River Resivour, do yourself a favor a try it out. I fished there for the first time on Monday with a buddy of mine. Together we caught around 20 bass, i was the lucky one and caught the biggest a 4 pounder. We fished from the boat dock all the way back to the standing timber and caught fish everywhere we went, mainly on pumpkin seed worm wacky rigged. I highly reccomend this place, on top of the heavy action it is a beautiful place to take in wildlife scenery.
  12. Thanks NitroMan I hope to have a pic here really soon, only problem I have is I catch the big fish when im by myself and its hard getting to the camera lol
  13. It very well could have been a turtle, I have had them chomp down on my plastic worms before. Bass can very well bite off the tail of a plastic worm also, I have had it happen several times.
  14. Were you guys in a boat or fishing off the banks?
  15. Thanks for the advice Sam. Im thinking its a combination of cooler water temps and clarity and o2. I think im going to wait until early May before I go back to this pond, they should be back to more shallow water by then and moving around a little more. I caught a bunch of lunkers at this place last year but I didnt start fishing it until May.
  16. So Im guessing its really all about location of the fish and a slow presentation
  17. Do you guys think its still to early for soft plastics?? I went fishing Sunday and yesterday at a private pond that is loaded with lunkers, but no luck at all, Its almost like they have had lock jaw or something. Last summer when I fished this place all I needed was plastic worms, but so far this early spring no luck at all with the plastics.
  18. And I forgot to add that my brand new shimano rod broke right in half, Have no clue how it happened, I just picked it up to rig my hook and saw it was broken at the very end...Yeah today sucked
  19. And if there was ever a bad day fishing then I could say it was today. The only catch I had today was stick fish, and of course myself, nothing like adding insult to injury with a hook in your finger :-[... I fished at the dam, and the water temp was right around 50 degrees, I threw everything in my tackle box, but not one bite. Oh well there well be better days I hope.
  20. Welcome to the board..Along with being a life long fisherman I am a life long Bama fan....ROLL TIDE!!!!!!! P.S....Yes im am from Virginia
  21. What kind of kayak do you have? Im looking at getting the 12' ascend from bass pro. I have fished my entire life, but it been mostly from the banks, and friends boats, so im sure the whole fishing from a yak will be a new and interesting expierence for me.
  22. Will be hitting Ruritan Lake next week, hopefully I will have a picture of a hawg when I get home
  23. Good luck on saturday deep, maybe with the yak you can get to some places you cant fishing just the banks. By no means am I an expert but I think fishing cold waters its more important to have a slow presentation more so than what you throw out there.
  24. Did you have any luck Wayne? I went to lake ruritan yesterday but no luck.
