  1. Well you did get my point think about jigs and how the hook rotates. Thats was in my first post. The ewg you will feel the round part of the hook opening your hands up. Your hook choice is 2nd best check out Daichi copperhead as you will see it's a jig hook with a little longer 90 degree thats more rotation. Now hold that between your hands any angle that you like. Now that we have the 2 best hooks the pegged vs unpegg and weather a fish opens it's mouth before hooking is wear it allways should have been a 1% problem. Garnet
  2. Now we are fishing brush and I would peg my sinker by slidding the bobber stop tight then move to outside weedlines were unpeg will work better, just slide that bobber stop up 3-4" and keep fishing. This also sets up a chase seen. Worm chasing worm wieght. Now with a bobber stop above and below the worm wieght I can Crig into even deeper water. And then fish the next brush pile by readjusting the same settup. I will take adjustable and tungston because my water demands that I adjust. Now back to the hookset the most important thing is the hook. Heres your experiment take ewg stlye hook and but between your hands like praying now get somebody to pull the line. What do you feel. Now take a jig style hook and do the same thing. Garnet
  3. I've 26 years tournament experience and success and never stopped learning. The next time you miss a fish on a trig look at the wieght, see those scratches. Guess what happened. Garnet
  4. Larry Nixon believes you can miss fish by pulling a worm wieght threw the lips so discounting it would be ahhhhhhh not smart. Then the only way to set the hook is to have a fish open there mouth an shake there head when angler is appling pressure. You can prove this by holding any bait in your hand tightly and have a trusted ? friend pull with a fishing rod. Do not open your hand thats when the hooks will get you. Comparing 1/4 t rig in scattered grass to punching mat with 1oz worm wieghts is.............. And the answer is have a settup that you can adjust between free and pegged and that would be bobber stops. Now why would jigs hook better than trigs. Garnet
  5. Thats the deal with me. If I keep my elbows good my should is tolerable and my wrist are good. I get to fish about 3 hrs without arm bans before the little elbow jab. Arm bans, sunglass, hat, sunscreen are all #1. Garnet
  6. Good Luck.................don't take your off the trailer until you check. Garnet
  7. Get your arm bans on before it hurts. The next thing you do is get your arm bans on before it hurts. Now it don't hurt...........get your arm bans on so it don't hurt. Shorter rods and softer tips helped. Don't live and die on max casting distanced. Point your rod strait at your bait, cranks and spinnerbaits let your hand hold the bait. Don't let the rodbend but pressure on your elbows. Garnet
  8. Lots of 2 strokes like yours are premix so you are running a very small amount of oil thru your truck. It will do more good for your truck. Garnet
  9. I use Power Pro yellow 20 lb spinning, 65 and 80 yellow BC. In weedy lakes I permanant marker the last 6-10 ft. Garnet
  10. Pour the gas into your truck/car, run the motor until it quits, remove upper lower unit screw if it's white drain if it looks good replace screw. You can buy fogging oil for $3-4 so pull spark plug and spray oil in sparkplug hole and turn prop in gear. Saving $3-4 is not a very good idea. Garnet
  11. You need to set the to power point of your rod and hold it there. Any more you will break lots of rods and reels and lose lots of fish and hurt your self. Garnet

  13. If I uderstand your problem. You turn your TM right and it only goes to the 1 or 2 o'clock position. The first thing to try is rotate the whole TM head and shaft. So lossen the up down adjustment and turn the whole TM shaft maybe half turn you will see the foot petal move. Check your rotation if you went the right way you should see improvement if not go the other way. Now your Arrow just drop your tolling motor in the driveway and if the arrow is piont were the trolling motor is aimed you are good. If not get flat screw drive and gently pry the arrow off and rotate. You can often get your cable in a bad postion (flopping around) by rotating the shaft then you need to adjust the cable. Thats a little harder. Garnet
  14. Catt what makes you think we are not very good anglers and understand location, seasons, different lakes for different tactics. Then we try do better. Garnet
  15. Pickup that spare prop from Wayne. It's a little challenging to drill the hole for your motor. On a windy you will not believe how much better it works. Garnet
  16. Everbody goes thru that get a limit. And lots have rode that to great careers. Then lots switch to swinging for the fence and accept the beatings. Others adjust to the game and the lake. Some lakes are limit type lakes others are big fish lakes and you can easily go get a small limit and never cash a check. If you are not fishing for a spot on your state team or the classic or club championship then you try to win or cash a check. All these thing make you a better angler and others get stalled somewhere inbetween. Garnet
  17. Yes thats very true locals fade, and then they come to Erie and locals lay a beating on the touring pros (Steve Clapper) and most of the top 10. So the pro's wimper and take out the local jack potters that they were happy to take there money from. It still remains that the local stick is a very good angler and will extract more fish they most locals and when the touring pro jack pots a local tourney they get wacked just as often. Garnet
  18. I agree that it's location and lots of guys get the location. Then it's the better anglers that win on the location. Even your local winners will produce more fish on any location. They will make minor adjustments and just allways catch that few more fish. And if they move on to other lakes they will catchup quick. Garnet
  19. The ones that really want to better angler move up. Every year you see somebody make a big splash I call it the Hummer effect new 22ft bassboat, 20 highend rods and reels all the bling thats just some peoples nature they will be flying kites or boat racing next year. It's the bottom 2/3 of the field that make tournaments, theres people working their way up and people working their way down. It's almost impossible to fish tournaments and not be a better angler, some are driven to the top and others are happy at their level. Garnet
  20. They are still the best design shaft for weed lakes. They came in a 12/24 46lb and I think that one is, and a 56 lb 24 volt. The 56 lb prop is much larger and great in the wind and the 46 lb is smaller and good in weeds. They both fit each other if you redrill the hole so If you see one grab it. Foot petal cables were allways iffy. Garnet
  21. Everything mentioned is in my trout vest. The one add would be Little Cleos just a great casting spoon. Garnet On my way Steelheading.
  22. Yes in Ontario it's a very good idea to use RV antifreeze. Even if you blow out with pressure air the water will run back to low spots in hoses. Make sure you pull the plug even if indoor stored. Next spring flush your livewell completely. Garnet
  23. Take some small floats and flys. And smaller tubes 1.5 - 2' whites browns and greens. Garnet
  24. I use a Redwing Tackle swival for deep dropshoting. These swivals are super small and standard stuff in Steelheading. For the dropshot getting your bait up and down is very time consuming with the swival you just reel fast and let it spin. I've tryed and liked most of the knots and always end up tying a surgeon knot and about 8-12ft flouro leader. Garnet
  25. When you start making the good decisions it will be easy. Or as previously said instinct will take over. The fish are giving you clues and those guys that are always cashing checks are making right adjustments. Go back to your notes and read about how your days went and look for clues on adjustment you should have made and write that into your reports. My notes go back to 1983 and I still read all of them at least once a year laugh and cry about the tourneys I gave away and still write should have done this notes. Garnet
