I have been a catfisher my entire life until two years ago when I moved to Virginia. I started getting into bass and now I'm addicted. I purcashed a few rods and reels over the past two years and they were all uneducated purchases. Now that I am learning about certain baits and techniques, I would like some guidance on which rods to use with which reels and for which applications.
Here's my problem. As I said, all of my purchases were uneducated and I just looked tonight to see that most of my rods/reels are identical.
So here is what I have reel wise:
BPS Tourney Special Baitcaster 6.3:1
Browning Midas Baitcaster also 6.3:1
Daiwa TSH-3000 6.2:1 Spinning
Shimano FX-2500FB (First ever bass reel). Unknown speed. Used for ultra-light applications so far
RODS:
TRIGGER:
BPS Tourney Special 6.0" MED FAST 1/4 - 5/8 OZ (Still has tags and can return)
BPS Tourney Special 6.6" MED FAST 1/4 - 5/8 OZ
Ugly Stick CAL 1101 6.0" MED HEAVY 1/4-3/4 OZ
SPINNING:
Daiwa Strikeforce 6.6 MED (Cheapy 2 piece to go with Shimano reel)
Daiwa Procyon 6.6 MED 1/8 - 1/2 OZ
I would like to have a setup for topwater, crankbaits, finesse (dropshot), flipping jigs, and worms(texas rig).
What would you suggest I do with what I have? I can return the one rod and get something else and I'm looking for a new reel as well.
Just purchased the Daiwa TSH with the Procyon rod and the guy told me it was a great setup for finesse. Hopefully that's true.
Been using the Browning Midas with the Ugly stick for crankbaits.
Using the Tourney Special baitcaster with 6.6 Tourney Special rod for topwater
I know most of these are not ideal. Any constructive input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sam
