  1. Interesting, I've always thought of using the spinner in a steady retrieve or playing with the retrieves but never hopping it on the bottom.
  2. Darker colored baits. Black/ blue fleck plastics have done well for me in murky waters. Chart Spinners, white as well. Look at the post alright here we go, help. It is about a lake with darker water. It's my post so I'm in the same boat relatively speaking as you.
  3. Fall and rest? I always let them hit the bottom and wait a couple seconds on plastics and jigs, for Spinners I usually start the retrieve when they hit or within a couple seconds. You're saying I should do the same for Spinners?
  4. I want to buy some but I'm not sure what color variation to buy. In the lakes I fish there are no trout. But I have had luck on trout colored jointed rapalas. I live in Virginia. The southern part to be specific. Should I try trout colored and maybe one of the phantom colors?
  5. I've tried using a shad colored chatter bait. I bought some trailer hooks last night, along with some June bug senkos. I'm going out this evening. My rods are rigged with a chart Colorado blade spinner, a black and blue Colorado spinner, June bug senko, black back to chart crank, rage craw black/ blue fleck, black grape trick worm on a shaky head. This is what I'm starting with.
  6. Spro is the way to go.
  7. Fish could have been short striking it as well.
  8. I'm curious to try the huddleston swim bait. I've never been too hot on swimbaits and was curious on who uses them and how do you like them? Also how do you rig the weedless one? The bait monkey has a little bit of a tight grip on me. But I wanna be sure before I give in.
  9. My Pops gave me a majority of his fresh water gear when the family moved to TX, and he's the only person I've seen with rattlesnake plastics. I have one pack of Rattlesnake salamanders and they are money.
  10. The only water that feeds into it is Lake Smith I believe which is right across the street. I've tried throwing a spinner in there. I'll try using a plastic or a jig there.
  11. Helicopter technique?
  12. Fishing these lakes in Norfolk/Virginia beach. Looking for some patterns here, having a little trouble locating fish.
  13. Yeah yesterday I was using spinners, but I didn't pull out my Colorado blade Spinner. I only have one and it's almost fire tiger colored. Would that do well?
  14. I'm back at school in Norfolk. Fishing Little Creek Reservoir, across the street from Lake Smith. Here's the lake. Not very deep, I'm not sure as to how deep it is. But on average it's around 3-5ft. Water is very murky, about 6" of visibility, maybe a foot. I've seen a lot of sand around the banks, there's also clay. The Virginia usual. Lots of structure and cover, trees, sections of pads, old cypress stumps. Very few docks. The water is like an olive green in color. 193 acres in size. Water temp I would say upper 70s. I have noticed that there are A LOT of carp. Very active too, lot of jumping, coming up and mouthing at the top of the water. A lot of panfish action as well. Popping at the top of the water. From local forums I have heard that there are a lot of good fish in this lake I just can't seem to land any at all. Not even a dink. I have used, shad spinners, fire tiger spinners, chart. spinners - I got some short strikes on those. Shad cranks, fire tiger cranks, bass colored cranks. Black blue fleck rage craws on a 1/8oz weight, 1/4oz black and blue jig Green pumpkin 10" powerbait worm, Green pumpkin baby brush hog. Watermelon flukes Green and yellow Spro, Natural red Spro. Shad poppers Black buzz baits White poppers on a fly rod. I dropped a forum post for help on a local forum there too, one guy said junebug dingers, and black grape trick worms. I have the trick worms, I don't have any junebug colors. I'm having trouble locating fish. Any insight. There has got to be a way to crack this code.
  15. With all that structure. A jig sounds like it would do the trick.
  16. Search hollow body frog, there was a forum post about it. Lots of good info.
  17. Let the fish tell you, usually a cold front means they are less active for a bit. But I always have a Spro tied on.
  18. Pour some gulp alive in one of the corners of his classroom.
  19. If times are tough for that day, I will usually choose a method to go slow with. If the fishing is slow, I fish slow. Anything from slow jig movement to just dragging a brush hog on the bottom.
  20. Brother if you don't want to catch the fish, don't use a hook. Fish are not equal. They are on the food chain a lot lower than us. I do somewhat respect the fish, and almost always catch and release unless I'm catching to cook. But I try not to feel too bad when I hook a fish, I mean that is what I'm trying to do. You can always try crimping the barbs down. That way the hooks come out easier.
  21. Considering the OP is new to bass fishing, and this website, it would only make sense to ask those questions because one, it will give us more information so that way we can further help him out. And two, it will help the OP know that next time he has a question to break down as much as he can so that way he can get more help. All the advice given has been great, dark water - dark colors, clear water - lighter more natural colors. I also find it easier to fish into the wind. Also when there's wind present or if there's a lot of wind I will use a heavier weight. That way you can still feel your lure. Best of luck.
  22. Whenever I'm fishing in the morning I can never really sleep, then I wake up too early. I think it's cause I get too excited. Ha then I go out and get skunked.
  23. SLOWWWWWW. That's the only way I fish them.
  24. I don't think it makes a difference, my 2/0s I have in red my 3/0s are not. I keep it that way I can tell the difference when I reach into my tackle box.
  25. Well as of right now, my motor is in the shop. So all I've been using is the TM, so after about 6 hours it starts running out of juice. But that's 6 hours of straight use, that's not bad right? That's why I was thinking of getting a separate battery for the fish finder. I don't mind charging two batteries, especially if the fish finder one won't have to be charged too often.
