  1. This year will be my first using a spook, I've practiced walking the dog and have got it down pretty well. But is there a certain color variation that is more effective than others?
  2. Fishing season is upon us!
  3. I understand what you're saying, and the irritation you may be feeling. Truth is if there's a way to bend the rules, some people will. They found a loop hole in the system. And the executed upon it. I think they defeated the point of the competition, but they didn't break any rules. All you can do is get your voice and your team's voice to those who make the rules and try to establish a means to evade this problem in the future. You'll be surprised what a phone call or two can accomplish. Good luck in the future.
  4. Look for over hanging bushes or trees. Usually there'll be a bed under there. Sometimes you can see it if the water is clear. If it's murky then just look for areas where there could be shade over the bank. I like to throw a salamander weightless or Texas rigged. Salamanders are known to eat fish eggs. And bass know this. Sometimes they'll just try to kill it. And might bite off the tail or an arm. Throw it right back to the spot. Sometimes I'll even throw a popper just outside of an area that looks bass beddish. And just try to irritate them. As far as color goes. I just match the water color, unless it's really off colored then I'll try motor oil to a chartreuse.
  5. I've had a lot of luck using a blue to white rattling floating jerk bait. Fish it pretty erratically. Also had some luck using green pumpkin baby brush hogs on a shaky head rig.
  6. Westmoreland county, bout and hour East of Fredericksburg.
  7. Nice fish there. Going out this weekend to Westmoreland, hopefully the warmer temperature will help.
  8. I've just recently gotten into fly fishing. Recent as in last summer I toyed with it. My father gave me all of his fly fishing gear and I'm really not sure of the uses of each fly and for what fish. If you're looking for someone to fly fish with and don't mind shooting me some pointers here and there then I would greatly appreciate it.
  9. I don't think there are many gar in virginia. Could be wrong though. there might not be, i didnt think there were any up here in PA but some guys illegally put them in muliple ponds/lakes, could be the same for you. There are plenty of gar in Va, I see them all the time in the Chickohominy and in Westmoreland. A buddy of mine caught a 4 footer in the Rappahannock.
  10. The battery is only a few weeks old. So if it was the trolling motor you said the shaft? I didn't seen any visible fishing line on the outside of the trolling motor. Maybe in the blade. I'll have to check it out.
  11. I was thinking about doing the same thing for my jon boat. You mentioned a truck box from walmart? Would that work? And what type of cooler would you need that would exceed 60$?
  12. Are you getting full power out of your battery when you use it?
  13. When I first bought my marine battery that I use for my trolling motor I got a lot of power out of it. I used a battery charger to charge it and it said it was fully charged. But now when I go out it doesn't feel like I'm getting the same amount of power. Now my trolling motor is a little old and funky but still works. Could it be the battery or the trolling? Any ideas?
  14. Went out yesterday in Westmoreland County, caught some dinks. Buddy of mine, Bill, caught a good 7lb.
  15. When school is in, down at Old Dominion, I usually can only fish during the weekends. But during the summer it's on. Nearly every day at various lakes and ponds. I actually manage a small lake where I live. Ha my girlfriend is under the suspicion that I enjoy fishing better than hanging with her. Ha I've been fishing all my life. She just doesn't understand.
  16. Thanks all for your input, I'll be back at the jig fishing Saturday on Lake Curtis.
  17. Right on, I just started Jig fishing and have been trying to get the hang of it. I got worm fishing down to a science so I thought I would try something new. Do you use trailers for the football headed ones as well?
  18. What's the difference or use of a football jig as compared to using any other type of jig?
  19. Went out on Ruffins Pond, in Spotsylvania, VA on Tues. Skunked. Water was really murky from the heavy rain that Saturday.
  20. I live in Fredericksburg, and it's been flooded since the heavy rain on Sunday, so I reckon it'll be flooded this Saturday as well considering the rain from last night. I myself have been looking to go out on Lake Curtis for the first time this weekend. A close friend of mine is leaving for Airforce Boot in 2 weeks and I'm just tryna get him in the water as much as possible.
  21. Rain has started tonight and there should be about 3" before it's through. If you make it out there, post some pics.
  22. Looking to go out on Lake Curtis in the near time future, wondering if anyone has any useful info. Not just on bass fishing but fishing in general. Is it a good spot? Or just a waste of time?
