  1. I caught my PB on a baby brush hog. At least my PB with using artificial baits. Never a bad thing to pitch. And it was on a spinning set up too. But I took recently got a BC. Been pitching all sorts of jigs and brush hogs. And pretty much everything capable of flipping and pitching. So brush hogs are always good. T rigged with a bullet weight. I like 3/8ths. A black and blue jig or a green and brown one. Always got a trailer to match. Chigger crazy leg craws. Expensive but good bang for the buck. Sucks it only comes with 6 in the bag. Experiment, broaden thy horizons.
  2. How are you fishing the fluke? And what's your set up?
  3. Yeah man, definitely know where you're coming from on that one. It seems like every bait is "the most versatile bait" then you try things like the spinner bait and nada.
  4. You know I've heard people talk about drop shotting but it just doesn't seem appealing. I'm sure I'll try it this summer though. I'm really looking to expand that way I don't get locked into one way of fishing. I've seen it happen to plenty of people. And I almost got stuck in just using a bullet weight and a t-rigged plastic. Past couple of times out, I start with a spinner which I hate, then after 20 mins or so I switch to the weightless senko. Something I've read about but never tried. And the season has only begun. Gotta keep the options open.
  5. Creature bait, like the rage hawg.
  6. As far as the certain one you stated I have no clue. As for techniques there are a lot of articles on spinner bait fishing on this site. I have read almost all of them and continue to have no luck with spinner baits. Ha good luck my friend.
  7. I haven't tried the rage craw but I have tried net bait trailers. Their paca chunks are spot on when it comes to action. Whether you need a small trailer or a pretty big one they got it. And they have it in almost every color you could ever need.
  8. When it comes to bass fishing, it's all about preference. Dinger... Senko... Preference.
  9. I think that bass over time after being caught get more and more finicky. There's a pond I fish across the street and we can get the little jacks to bite all day. The only way we can catch the big ones is with a live blue gill. Now while fishing the other day something interesting happened. My friend hooked into a blue gill with a bitsy minnow. And just started watching it swim around. Well one of the big bass came up and started teasing the blue gill. It started trying to get the bitsy minnow out of the side of the blue gill's mouth. We watched it as it tried over and over again. Finally another big bass came up and swallowed the blue gill. My friend then spent 5 mins fighting it on a ultra light rod. The bitsy got lodged in the bass' tongue. It was interesting, ha now every time we go to the pond he tries to catch the big bass with the same method.
  10. I've never tried the fluke, I have some smaller ones good for a 1/0 hook. I think I'm gunna give them a shot soon.
  11. I'm not giving up on spinners yet. And to be honest I haven't caught squat on crank baits lately either. So I'm sticking to working on those for a while.
  12. I've used coffee flavored tubes, caught a 3lbs fish from one pocket where the day before I caught another if not the same 3lbs fish from that same spot using a brush hog. So I really don't know. What I do know is that I like the smell of it. A long with the smell of Anise. And there's something about opening a bag of berkley powerbait, you just have to smell the bag.
  13. Well how are the weeds sitting? Are they at the bottom or just kinda drifting everywhere at unknown depths. If they're not too deep you can try running cranks through there. Shallow to medium divers. I fished a large pond/small lake that had this problem. I used texas rigged I just jigged them so that they wouldn't touch the bottom. Also look for structure where there may be a gap in the grass. If I tossed it just outside of some structure or in those gaps I was getting into some good sized fish. Top water is always a good choice in the evening and morning, but I mean that's basics. Good luck to you.
  14. I'm using straight fluoro. I haven't tried braid. Kinda shy to it. As far as the drag goes is it cool if it's not too tight, having a little give so that it's more of a fight than just horsing it in.
  15. I've heard of people having a lot of success with grubs, how do you rig them? Just with a jig head?
  16. I've heard that spinner baits are good for after the rain but I have personally never caught a single fish on one. After rain I use plastics because that's what I always use. Lipless cranks are good. Something with a little rattle. That is, if the water is mirky. But to each his own.
  17. Brush hogs will change your whole outlook on plastic baits. I used to only use ribbon tails. Haven't touched them since I started using the brush hog. You can pitch and flip it, you can rig it weightless. Love it. Kiwi when it's clear water, green pumpkin when it's dark.
  18. Baby Brush Hog for sure. Though I haven't tried the regular sized brush hog. I've just had so much success on the baby one that I didn't bother to try it. It's working well for you though? Also been getting them on Senkos. Those are the 2 plastics I have on me always.
  19. Well I went to Gander today, returned the Megaforce then went to Bass Pro and got the Pro Qualifier, it's normally 100 but it's on sale now for the same price I got my Megaforce. Same price, better reel. At least the reviews say so. She reels like butter. Cannot wait to use it. Also on baitcasters is it okay to have the drag set low or not fully tight? I feel like when I'm fighting a fish and it's pulling the drag, it's not good for the reel. Just a question. Thanks all for the input.
  20. I recently got into using a casting reel. 3 weeks ago I picked up a Daiwa Megaforce 100STH I believe it is. After 2 weeks, I got this grinding feeling in the reel. It was going as smoothly as it first had. So I lifted it apart to oil it and it locked up. So I took it back to Gander and they replaced it, no questions asked. It's been a week, I've been doing my research on the reel and lots of people had the same problem as me if not worse. Most people got a year or less out of their reel. I think the reel is beginning that grinding noise again. So I started looking around for another reel around the same price. I found the BPS Pro Qualifier. I'm wondering am I being too fidgety about my reel? I wanted to buy something relatively cheap and have it last. But the Daiwa has plastic gears, and lots of complaints for those who owned them for a long time. Where as the BPS reel has had 383 reviews and sits with a 4.8 rating. What do I DO?
  21. Like someone said on here, I think it's just the wrong application of the lure. I'm gunna keep trying though. I've stowed my plastics for the past couple of days and only used my spinners and cranks. I hardly take them out. Needless to say my past couple days of fishing haven't been too successful. Yet I don't blame the techniques entirely. A storm front has moved in. Lots of thunderstorms yesterday and today, and to continue through out the week. Oh well. Just gotta wait it out.
  22. Cranks, spinners, buzz, plastics, swim, live, whatever you deem necessary in your current situation. Use what you're comfortable with. Check the weather and match the patterns of the fish with the type of bait you have and or comfortable with. It's all up to preference.
  23. Do you or have you ever felt like you've read all you could, tried everything you could, but just didn't get results from a technique? I must have read at least 10-20 articles, watched tons of videos, tried numerous times and I still cannot get a spinner bait to work for me. I am making it a goal to try new techniques this summer but spinner baits are making it difficult for me to complete this goal. Granted, it is early in the summer, not even really, but I was just curious if anyone else had this problem.
  24. Well I mean for the pro's it's a way of lively hood. It's how they make their dough. Most people who work for money eventually get tired of working. For me. Love bass fishing. I can stand there, catch hardly any fish. And still be glad it's a day at peace. Really seeing God's creations and how they interact together. But I do love hooking into a hog.
  25. My confidence baits are plastics. Because one, they have over time become my favorite way to fish. And two, because they're my favorite I know how to use them better than all my other baits. I know what to look for, what to throw, where to throw it and how to move it. Because I've fished that technique so much. You like using buzz baits and spinners, I would look at a selection of spinners and buzz baits and think what is going on here? It's all preference. You gotta find what you like, master it, and it'll be your confidence bait.
