  1. I tie a solid clinch knot, I always give it a little bit of saliva when I tie the knot. I'm confident in my knots. I'm thinking it might be rubbing against the log we're fishing near and nicking the line. But I still have confidence it's a big fish.
  2. Twice, at dusk or just before dusk in a channel between an island and a point I and my friend have both thrown ribbon tails. Power bait to be specific. And both times we've felt a slight twitch, like a pick up, 2.5 seconds after setting the hook, snap. I have 10lb flouro on. He has 30lb braid, the only thing about his braid is that one of his eyelets on his rod is knicking his line and he continued to fish it anyways. I want to catch this fish. I was thinking maybe it's a big cat, or just a massive bass but it's gotta be big to snap my line so quickly. And it's happened in the same spot twice around the same time so I know it's pattern. It shall be mine, oh yes, it shall be mine.
  3. Is it only for spinning
  4. What? Anyone tried it yet?
  5. Spro makes a good frog. My friend does well with scum frogs.
  6. Where are you located?
  7. Thanks for all the input guys. I'll have to give it another shot.
  8. I greatly appreciate the info, not a lot of people are willing to give that much info on the lake they like to fish. I hope I can find a motor soon and get out there. Do you ever fish any tournaments at Anna?
  9. Yeah the guy called me back today. The motor company is no longer in business, and I need new gears but the parts are impossible to find. Said the motor runs great it's just that my gears are all jacked up. So looks like I'll be selling for parts and looking for a new outboard. Luckily I have some cashed saved up so I'd be able to purchase another one soon. I just gotta find a used one that runs well and that isn't too expensive. If you could throw me some pointers on Anna that would be great. I haven't fished any big lakes yet, as I haven't had a motor to do so. Anna is HUGE compared to anything I'm used to. I know people have caught some hogs out of there. The guy that started this forum is actually my best friend and fishing buddy, we've been nailing them on our secret lake. I caught a 9lb and another friend of ours got at least an 8, we didn't scale that one. I went out today and it seems like all the big fish were deeper cause all I could hook up on were dinks. A good 4lb shook my jig like it was nothing. Besides today there hadn't been a day where we haven't hooked into a 3lb fish. Feels good to know that what you're doing is working, ha at least it was. I blame the heat.
  10. I have yet to fish Anna, I recently got a jonboat and I wanna get out there as soon as my egg beater motor gets fixed, I've heard it can be tough but when it's on, it's on.
  11. You were slaying them with that swimbait. Ha I enjoyed the one part of the second video where you were casually smoking a cigarette while fighting a fish. Interesting music choice as well.
  12. Right on, I appreciate it. Is there a better way to set the hook or anything else I could be doing? Is the Senko really too much plastic?
  13. Yeah a couple times it was some sunnies, their bite feels different. It was the reeling them in and having the fish get off that was aggravating. I would see the fish come up then pop, right out of his mouth.
  14. I've recently begun to experiment with the drop shot. I went out on the water today and threw a 4" senko on a 1/0 GY round hook (I forgot the actual style) I've got the bait nose hooked, and I was getting a ton of bites. Pulled in only 6 but I must have had twice that in bites but everytime I set the hook they would either get off while fighting or the hook wouldn't set. Now I've heard that with the drop shot you have to wait a little longer for the hookset but I wasn't waiting too long. And I was making sure I could still feel the fish on. It just wasn't happening. I'm thinking of t-rigging it instead but I was just looking for some input. Thanks
  15. 7ft Medium action rod. Baitcaster or spinning reel which ever you're more comfortable with. 10 lb Stren Flouro line. It's cheap and decent line. 3/8ths bullet weights 5" watermelon red flake Gary Yamamoto Senko or Yum Dinger (cheaper, more durable, same body type) They can be thrown with the bullet weight or without. Read the thread SENKO FAQ in the fishing tackle forum Best of luck
  16. 10 lb stren flouro on my BC. T-rigged with a 3/8 bullet weight. Green pumpkin is my favorite. Handles every water color really. I hop it or drag it on the bottom. Caught a 3lb today on one. Good luck.
  17. It's been about a week since I've been on the water and I'm dying to fish. Having a bad case of withdrawals. I've been with family in KY and have been on this site quite a lot. Ha cannot wait to get back to VA and slay some fish. Since the OP I've really picked up using spinners and chatterbaits. I just had to get a good color and blade combo tied with the way to fish it. The night I caught my PB. My fishing partner and I had unknowingly both tied on white spinners with 2 willows at the same time. We both were catching fish and realized we were using the same thing. It was a good laugh and a good time. Just hoping to do it again soon. Hope everyone is giving the bait that never worked another try as I did. And I hope you all have some good luck. Tight lines Gents.
  18. I've had history of mechanics really taking me to town with prices. I'm having trouble getting my prop to fully engage, and was wondering if anyone knew any "good and decent" small engine repair places where I can get my motor fixed. I'm not trying to get my chain pulled all over the place as this is my first boat, and first motor. It's not a very big motor. It's more of joke than anything but it gets me from point A to B. It's a 2.7hp but has ran well for the previous owner and me as well until now. Could use some local help. I would appreciate it. Thanks All.
  19. I caught my PB last week on a white spinner with one gold and one silver willow blade. Reeled slow parallel to lay downs and grass lines. Also done well with Baby Brush Hogs, Senkos, and a black and blue jig with a Berkeley powerbait 5" grub as a trailer. Shad colored cranks have done well. Orange floating minnow. Shad colored chatterbaits. 12" yum ribbontails, blue fleck. Ha my buddy and I have really branched out on what we've been fishing. We don't like to use the same technique over and over again unless we need to fall back on our confidence baits. Which lately they've been hitting it all so we've been able to experiment more with what we want to use.
  20. Ha I feel like that's a little too far for me. I'd probably just go with Arkys because the lakes around me are very diverse in composition. I want to try some of those hippy jigs. I'll be making an order soon. Does anyone like using the finesse jigs? Are they just more compact?
  21. Couple packs of Senkos with some worm hooks wouldn't hurt. I prefer Yum Dingers, they're the same body style as Gary Yamamoto Senkos but cheaper. You can get a 5 pack from Walmart for 3 bucks. I use 4 and 5". Watermelon and Green Pumpkin are good colors. Bitsy Minnows you can buy at Walmart as well. They usually have them. And occassionally Walmart has a sale box on the bottom of the rack infront of the fishing section. Always good to look in there and try out some baits that are in there. Some bullet weights wouldn't hurt 1/16th is good for if it's not windy. 3/8ths is good for when the wind picks up. Most people rig their senkos or dingers weightless, texas rigged. I've had luck with or without a bullet weight. Senkos (dingers) are pretty easy to catch fish with. Just read up on the forum thread pinned on Senkos. Another good plastic bait that I will forever swear by is the Zoom Baby Brush Hog. Green Pumpkin. That's my go to bait. But I mean you kinda gotta try around to see what you like. I would try around with different techniques, cranks, spinners, soft plastics, and then figure out what you like best. Then stock on the technique baits that you like.
  22. Yeah but what's a hippy jig? Also does anyone have some color variation recommendations on northstar jigs?
  23. Oh and a Strike King Bitsy Minnow is a money lure for all types of fish. I've done very well with the white, and the brown and orange colors. They catch bass, sunfish, crappie. Everything. Definitely pick up those two colors.
  24. Hippy jigs, Premier jigs, pro series, pro finesse jigs... What's the difference? I can see that they're mostly differently shaped. Like the finesse jigs have a the skirt that goes over the head a bit. But are there different uses for each body type? I read their descriptions for different types of heads but I'm confused on what the different shapes are for. I appreciate the help.
