  1. I'd like to hear a little more about that one!!!
  2. I'm right there with you. I have had cabin fever worse this year than in several years past. Our ice is all melted off the lakes/rivers but the water is still pretty cold. Have been out a few times but no bites yet. Never was very good at cold weather bassin' and would love to go with someone that is good at it! Anyway, had snow here tonight... couldn't believe it. Hopefully another few weeks and the water will start warming up enough. This is why I'm thinking of moving back to my home state of FL. Year round fishing sounds so good right now! ;D

  8. Hello and welcome from another Virginia guy. I used to live and work in Woodbridge... spent a lot of time on the Occoquan Reservoir and Potomac. I still work up in the NoVa area many days in my business so if you ever wanna get together, just let me know. Enjoy the forum!!!

  21. Glad you made it to the site. Don't be wishing you were from VA too much. Still cold down here and can't seem to get any bites yet. I think the water temp comes up 5 or so degrees and it'll be on. Welcome.
  22. Well, don't like to hear about you getting hooked but it does happen. Hope all is well now. Welcome to the site. Where in Florida are you from? I grew up in Dade City. Take care.
  23. Glad you made it here to the site and hope you find some new fishing partners...
  24. It got up to about 45 degrees outside today and, although I knew the water was still way too cold to get much biting, I just had to get out there for a little bit. I tried something called Float-and-fly that I saw on a Finesse Bass DVD last night. I tied a hair crappie jig about 10' below a small bobber. I was casting out into 15' to 20' deep water, where a channel came out of a cove into deeper water. I didn't get any bites but it was still nice to get out there. Still ice on at least 2/3rds of the lake. Man how I miss Florida. What are some of you all doing to catch Smallies in real cold water?
  25. Hey KWM - I tell you... I go against the grain with some folks when I say, just get a rig and fish... but I feel that you can catch them with just about anything. Now believe me, I do match up my rods and reels for different types of fishing and have for awhile but I think for casual fishing, it doesn't matter too, too much. Anyway, for SM around here, it's popular to get a spinning rig set up on a medium or medium-light rig about 6' long, maybe 6 & 1/2'. The 6 or 8 lb. test is good but you gotta be careful because of all the rocks, etc. in some of the rivers. the Potomac is gonna get you quite a few LM so you may wanna go ahead and get a 10 lb test line. Get a braided line if you can so you can keep that low diameter but not break lines all the time. Where do you live on the Potomac? I've fished it a few times when I used to live up there in NoVa. Good luck. Jon
