  1. hello i have a club tourney the weekend of easter and have never fished there this time of year. i am assuming based on watching the elites there the past two years that it will be a bed fishing deal. im not much on bed fishing and was wondering if anybody has success otherwise in the main lake area. i will bed fish if i find some but with a 3 hour drive and 1/2 day of practice im hoping to find some staging areas. just wondering about this time of year, thanks for your time
  2. i hear ya! i casted too far once and it landed on the bank near where a goose was sitting on eggs. the other goose who was guarding ran over and started stepping/biting my spinnerbait before i could retrieve it. as i was reeling my line the dern thing followed it most of the way back! same spinnerbait different day, again i casted a little to close to the bank and when the thing hit, up jumps the biggest buck i have ever laid eyes on, i mean horns growing out everywhere! it was on an island of course where you cant hunt, a mile from any shoreline!!!!
  3. i was telling a friend about this and thought i would share with youall. last summer i was fishing a night tourney with an older gentleman friend of mine. he doesnt see too well at night. i was watching my line, all of the sudden he yells he has a bite. i look over and see his line is not in the water, but in fact on the bank up a tree hanging over a limb. it was a full moon so i could see his line rather well. in that instant he yelled he had another bite and while i was looking at his line and getting ready to tell him of his misfortune, i could see a shadow in the same vinicity as where his line ended on the limb. and it was moving! so i begin to say to him i think. . . . . . . . all of the sudden he says " there it is again" trying to hold back my emotions, i tell him i believe you are up a tree and bird has gotten it. of course he says no way(he was not using night line so he didnt even know where his line was) and then again he gets bit and sets the hook! he set on slack line so of course he says "dam i missed" then "heck there he is again" and just before he sets the hook he says " i think he got off". at this point i am crying and trying to tell him hes up a tree and getting bit by an owl!! after a few minutes of him telling me im crazy, he gets another hit, sets the hook, all hell breaks loose! the limb snaps, the owl flies, and that my friends is the gods honest truth!! everytime i tell the story i get choked up with laughter and i STILL think he thought he was on a good fish!!!
  4. no i didnt win the tourney yet lol, that was sunday i was catching em, the tourney is this coming saturday. i am going to go again this thursday to check things out. thanks for your help, its 54 today, but rain/snow tomorrow with a high of 40 and its not supposed to get above 44 until tourney time. i figure at best the water will be the same temp(46-48) come saturday so ima slow the crank and follow with a jig or shaky. last year i won the event on a jerkbait but i just dont think they are on it full blown but i willl try it some. its killing me, last year the water was 55 and we absolutely crushed em on the JB. oh well, it will be a great learning experience
  5. well, last weeknd the weather was in the mid 70's, the water was warming to the 50 degree mark and the fish were moving up and killing cranks. yesterday it snowed an inch, the water dropped to 47 and i caught a few on cranks in 8-10 feet, but not like the previous weekend. now its in the 20's at night high 40's this week and rain most of the week. i have a tourney saturday and am skeptical as to what will happen. my gut says the fish will move deeper, but i have never seen this kind of significant swing. has anybody been in this situation? usually the fish are really gettin fired up now, but im afraid we might be in for a long and cold fish a thon saturday.
  6. 12 pound 5 fish limit shimmy. thats a good number for hot side but i know it can be broken
  7. one of the guys lost 11 loomis poles/reels. that has got to be the worst feeling. the facebook page showed a pic of the padlock of the lockrod sawed thru. just terrible
  8. dam thieves are at it again. reports of tourney anglers losing everything, rods, powerpoles, etc. what a shame especially after what happened at the everstart prayers go out to all hit, hope they catch the thugs and slice their fingers off
  9. i hear ya sam. i talked to you a few years ago on here before coming to anna the first time. we have had pretty good luck since coming to anna, just cant seem to break the 12 pound mark so far. i have side scan now maybe i will find some stuff this year
  10. i usually got to the hotside in february but this year we are going the second weekend in march. will the spawn be in full swing or will it be like late late feb where you might see a few but still a prespawn pattern? cant wait to visit again this makes our third year. great people there and an awesome fishery. if i just could figure out where the biggins live!
  11. thinking about trying these two plastics this year and was wondering if anyone has used them. the 8 inch hags looks great carolina rigged. the dinero has a ton of action, at least in the vids!
