  1. It's great to hear your side of it. I just posted in the tournament talk section, that I would like to see an interview with you. You did the right thing. I think B.A.S.S. kind of dropped the ball with that slap on the wrist but I'm sure there are all kinds of legalities involved with thier decision. It is hard for me to believe that this guy will get much fan support or retain his sponsors. Thanks for doing the right thing.
  2. I love the SKT MR Aurora Black. Mine is almost clear now so I guess I'm going to shell out another 16 bucks. I love Lucky Craft baits but I wish they would put a better clear coat on them, or whatever they need to do to make the finish last longer.
  3. I had the same problem on my 89 175 Mariner and thought that I would have to replace the fuel pump but my machanic just rebuilt mine for $100, ofcourse the majority of that was labor. I'm no machanic and was tickled to death with that. It sounds like you could do it yourself with a $15 - $20 rebuild kit. Good luck.
  4. So, what is going on around the state? Anyone catching anything? My son and I went to Cumberland this past Sat. and didn't have any luck at all. I talked to a few people that cought them but it was just slow day. I'm thinking this coming weekend will be better with all the warm weather. We'll be out there somewhere (probably Herrington) fishing, and hopefully catching.
  5. Reading these posts, I have realized that I've had alot of misconceptions about batteries. I have done a search and didn't find the answer to my question. I have always heard to charge at 2 amps and the batteries would run longer, then recently I was told that it's not good to charge marine batteries at 2 amps. Could someone please clear this up for me? I've always used a regular charger at 2 amps. I just bought a 2, 10, 15 amp marine charger that has an std, amg, and gel settings. Am I correct in charging these Everstart Wal-mart batteries on the amg setting? Thanks in advance for your help.
  6. My 14 year old son actually pushes me to get better. He learns so much so quickly. He's already better at flippin' and pitchin'. He stands out on the picnic table and practises. I just can't let him out fish "the ol' man" already. We have a lot of fun pushing eachother.
  7. Shallow water with stumps and that many huge bass. It's hard for me to believe that the bass fishing locals were not aware of this spot. It was probably one of those locals that turned the pros on to it. As for fish being taken out, that is not the only place with nice bass and if the laws are obeyed then a good fishery can handle it. That being said, it still breaks my heart to see someone keep a monster. There are plenty of other edible fish.
  8. I'm surprised there are not more postings on this KY site. I live a couple miles from Herrington Lake so that is where I do most of my fishing. I would like to fish Lake Cumberland more but just don't get the chance to make it down there often. Every time I've been there it was to fish for stripers now my 14 year old son wants to fish a Jr bass tournament toward the end of March out of Conley Bottom. I would love to be able to put him on some fish but I just don't know how LM and SM live in a lake with such large stripers. Right now I am planning on hitting a creek and just working our way to the back. If I'm in a creek with stripers, will there be black bass in there as well? From what I remember, there is not much cover on that lake. I would really appreciate any advice I could get on fishing this lake.
  9. This article doesn't even deserve a response but I simply can't help myself. This "scientific study" is based entirely on perception. Just because a non-tournament angler perceives these things, does not make it so. I promise you, more fish live being caught and released than being cut up and fried. Tournament fishing has helped bass fisheries as well as many small town economies. This "scientific study" is filled with nonsense coming from both tournament and non tournament fishermen. Tournament fishermen are also recreational fishermen and probably have more respect for the fish they catch (and release alive) than any other fisherman.
  10. KVD was talking about them on the radio this morning. Now everyone is sold out. I've got a couple I can send you, but you'll have to change the hooks out.
  11. I'm new to the whole forum thing (it's been a long winter), so I really don't know, but I have to wonder if the same kind of talk was going around last year about the red eye shad. Was it, "just another lipless" until people actually tried it? My 14 year old son bought some of these new KVD squarebills several weeks ago and he told me then, "If KVD wins the classic this year, this is what he will be throwing." Ofcoarse he just figured that's what would be said, no matter what. But anyway, I just wonder if next year people will be singing the praises of the new KVD squarebill.
  12. Win on Sunday, sell on Monday. An old statement that still holds true.
  13. Welcome to the site, as you can see, it's a great one. It's good to see a fellow Kentuckian, especially on Cumberland. Maybe you could give me some pointers on that lake.
  14. This is a great time of year to buy a boat around here. I bought mine last year, around this time. You don't see many ready to go for that price. Have you taken it out and had the compression tested? I was told to jump up and down on the motor to check the transom, but ofcoarse I would ask the owner to do that. After looking at boats in the KY, Tenn, Indiana, and Ohio area for a couple of years, I would say thats a great deal. (IMO) At that price and year, I would be prepared to put some more money into it but the same thing could be said for a much more expensive boat. Like I was told... Bust Out Another Thousand
  15. Manny, thanks for welcoming me to the site. I don't think I can be much help as I have so much to learn myself. So far in my limited tournament experience, I've just been an entry fee donor. Still love it though, and have confidence that will change soon. If you haven't tried it yet, check out the jointed shad rap (JSR-7) in silver shad. It's rattling-suspending and easy to cast a mile. Wish I had it last year.
  16. Thanks for all the warm "welcomes" guys. This site and the people on it are really helping me get through a tough winter. My wife loves it too, now I don't drive her quite so crazy talking about fishing.
  17. I just got the BPS sales ad today. They have dropped the fish elite 480 to $209.99. The only thing "cheap" about this unit is the price. I've got one at the console and at this price, I may put one up front. I can only assume that with the new DSI coming out maybe they are doing away with these, but for that price I don't think you can beat it. With the FHS chip, it is awesome.
  18. Kentucky covers everything from sunfish(10") to gar(40"). The brook trout(11") and the brown trout is (20"). I've caught a 37" striper and a 24" hybrid striper, both 1" over min. length but still the wrong color for weigh-in. This year I hope to get that 23" Lmb or tha 20" Smb. Maybe just a dream, we'll see.
  19. Kentucky has the "Trophy Fish/Master Angler Award Program". It is based on minimum length and takes three different species to recieve Master Angler plaque. Each catch must be documented (application, picture, angler and witness signatures). I don't participate but ofcoarse I'm still trying to catch em. I've only been fishing, (at an addicts level), for about a year and have cought two that meet thier min. length so I would assume they will be handing out a lot of plaques if many participate. There is no time limit.
  20. I've lived here all my life and I think the only time I've ever used the word North with Kentucky is talking about northern KY. We're SEC all the way. I love this site. The people on it and running it are great. I think this just may be the only flaw.lol
  21. I think he is just trying to get back to the Classic. If he can win one of the three Opens, he's in the Classic. I hope to see him do it.
  22. I'm sorry, I'm new to this. I just found two pages on the swim-senko at the top. Thanks.
  23. Has anyone tried the swim-senko? With all the senko craze, I haven't seen or heard much about it.
  24. I just read that Mark Menendez will be using Lews this year. I'm sure they will have other pros but this is the first I've seen.
  25. I live near Herrington Lake so most of my time is spent there but I also enjoy Cumberland and Cedar Creek when I get the chance. I grew up fishing mostly creeks with my dad. My 14 year old son got me into tournament fishing last year. We've learned alot in the last year but not enough. This site is great, thank you all for the great info.
