  1. Or looks pretty to fool big dumb guys like us =)
  2. And--- if you ever fish a crankbait like me. You would be digging the lip so far down in the rocks and mud that you'd never worry about a fish seeing the belly! lol
  3. Actually, you can use spinnerbait blades on them IF you use it on the same wire shank and the baits. So, 3 wires you could have blades on that wire before coming down at the snaps- where you then attach the bait.
  4. I was originally going with the bagleys as well. I wasn't sure. I found 3 or 4 for 1.00/ea. I was wondering if it could possibly be a knock off, but I don't run into very many wooden knockoff baits. I appreciate everyone's help!
  5. It does seem that most of the oval split rings are higher quality. (although I am sure there are cheap versions) But that could be an upgrade over stock rings if you've ever had a problem with them breaking or straightening. I really like them for line ties though, especially when I'm fishing at night.
  6. Could someone please tell me what these lures are? Thanks for the help! I was thinking either the Zoom? Or a Bagleys. But I am not familar with either.
  7. I don't know about these either. I have bought cheaper bearings before and they worked great the first trip! I took it out the next time and it sounded awful. They ended up not being stainless steel or something, because when I went to change them again it was rusted through. But, if they do work, it'll be worth the money. If they don't, you'd learn a lesson, but you'd get by a lot cheaper than most. So, win win either way if you do your own swap. I don't think there is anything a bad bearing could really hurt?
  8. BigBassMan- what process do you lay your paint and photo finish with? Do you spray top and bottom then apply finish or apply paint after the finish. Was also wondering, if you were to take your shad baits and throw a chartruese splatter down the back, would you apply that directly to the foiled picture, or would you put a coat of clear on first, then apply another clear over paint? I've just started painting, but I've got so many ideas- just want to be able to get my ideas across in the right way!
  9. I had an old pflueger and tore it apart just to experiment on. I started boring out equally placed holes in the gear washer (not the teeth of course). I also tried this in the handle shaft, and got happy and started in on the frame lol. I now have the lightest pflueger purist ever! lol it looks like crap. And with all the holes in the frame it would probably have to be re-oiled every trip. I imagine some structural issues would arise due to all that, but the reel does work and I really can't see that too much can be damaged by holes in the gear. (several reels do this anyway)
  10. means nothing bout making you an expert. and I admit i didn't pay any attention at all to any of your other posts. was just saying that a higher post count could possibly make you more knowledgable than other guys that would say something like that and mean it exactly the way they said it IF they weren't in the "know" about fishing (again, not saying you know or don't know anything about fishing). Seeing you have been on here awhile, that doesn't make you an expert, knowledgable, or even smart...but does give light that you have at least read a little more about fishing than a lot of other people. It doesn't matter a bit to me what peoples opinions are on the rig or about anything about fishing or life. I just thoughy it was ironic to see, " I am pretty sure Paul Ellias was an unskilled newbie untill he picked up the A-rig. Talk about a flash in the pan who got lucky with the rig. " Turns out, you meant for it to be ironic. And i commented because I thought it was funny and an intelligent quirk.
  11. I first thought this was post of a newbie that knew nothing about fishing....Then I saw your post count and realized that this was entirely sarcastic!!! Right??? lol I actually had friends that went down to the FLW event and fished the same one as Paul. They tried the A-Rig and put it down because they caught only 2 striper in a couple hours. These guys were good fishermen! Actually, the guy that caught the stripers was practicing with Clausen. Not everyone can do it by just chunking and winding (there is some skill involved in catching the bigger better fish) and not everyone would be doing it now if they didn't see the success rates of it. It makes it a lot easier to throw 5 hours a day when you know your next fish could strike up a school and you could catch some monsters on it.
  12. is it not possible to get the winch gears for the premier? I thought most of them could be interchangable?
  13. I agree about the multiple arm/bladed spinnerbaits. IMO it has nothing to do with the number of hooks on the bait, but what the bait represents. I think this can be with blades as well. It may not look as realistic, but it will get the schooling fish affect.
  14. I the shad and bluegill patterns are both photo finished if i'm not mistaking? Big Bass Man has just perfected it and can shoot some awesome jobs to go with a beautiful photo finish on top of that. Very amazing skill level!!!
  15. I have an old buzzbaits my father made when he was fishing professionally. It looks a lot like the buzzbaits with the two arms coming out of the head with spinnerbait blades on them (no idea who makes them now). He attached hooks and put slugos on them though. He'd also take a 3 way swivel and tie two leaders off the back and place the other hole over the hook of a buzz or spinnerbait. The idea has been around for a long time. Even some native tribes would troll trot lines behind canoes to simulate multiple prey fish.
  16. So, where do you draw the line? A large depthfinder is cheating but a small one isn't? Why? Couldn't you just use a line system with depth markers on it if you needed to know depth? Where and how does one advancement in fishing become a disgrace instead of an improvement? The rig is something that fish don't see and has nothing to do with the numbers of hooks on it. MOST fish are caught on the middle bait. I fish this rig a lot with only one hook on the middle lure. What is amazing is the number of big fish caught on it, not the number of fish being caught at one time. People won't be able to change the laws themselves, but if you have a problem with the idea of the rig itself, I really can't fathom why you wouldn't give it a try just to see results so you can truly speak for yourselves. Tie one on without and hooks and watch the size and the amount of fish that will it to the boat! Don't be narroanother sitended (for lack of a better term, because I mean absolutely no dis respect by any of my posts) about a lure or a method without having adequate facts and data from your own accord.
  17. I just started learning with my airbrush. Haven't even set anything down on any plugs. Just playing around with strokes, and getting the feel for the gun. I was wondering about matching colors. I was good with acrylic paintbrushing, but you could mix it in a little at a time on your paint surface and get what you wanted. I have a badger 150, not the best I guess but seems like it will do the job. I'd just like to know everyones different techniques with this? Do you write down and measure it??? 5 Drops chartruese- 2 drops brown - etc? Eyeball it each time? Do you test it out in the gun or brush it out on a piece of substrate to see if it matches up well? Also, when painting a lure, do you guys wait until it dries some before laying down your next layer? I'd understand if your using a wrap for scales and such that it should probably dry, but can you lay down stiffling or another color on top of wet paint? I know these are all rookie questions... sorry guys
  18. I'll be using the big paca craws at night when warmer weather comes =)
  19. Forget all that and just read the website. I went back in my phone calender and found the name of the trail. http://www.riverbassintrail.com/
  20. A local trail did this a year or so ago and weighed in at the Bass Pro Shops. I can't find the website but will be sure to keep an eye out. The basic idea was... Everyone met the night before for the pre-tournament meeting. Everyone received a ruler with the trails logo on it (which changed every tournament). There had to be 2+ pictures taken of each fish (one on the measuring board showing tip to tail) the other showing fish in hand with scenery behind- I think this was to verify you weren't in stocked location or something??They may have even done 3 pics, one showing the weight on the trail given scales, but I can't remember the rules to good. You could start fishing anytime that day until weigh in and fish anywhere in the state as long as you made it back. Kayaks, float tubes, wading or all allowed. So, 12 midnight-weigh in. At weigh in you had to give over your SD Card or memory stick with your largest catch. I believe this was a 2 fish tournament. And it followed them basic guidelines. I'm sure they could be made better.
  21. I've been using 65lb braid and check it and retie from time to time. Its a lot of weight and there is always the possibility of loosing it on a cast. I really like the braid because if you get snagged you have the high strength to straighten out a snap and get your rig back.
  22. http://www.chattanoogan.com/2009/10/22/161452/New-Tennessee-State-Record-Bass-caught.aspx 16 pound, 15 ounce largemouth bass I couldn't personally find anything about the smallmouth. I did see the picture JF posted several times with all kinds of different weights attached to it. Its going to be like the sturgeon picture lol (its been caught in every river in America lol) Things like the link below are the things that keep me fishing. A world record can surely be caught out of any of our lakes if a thought to be extinct fish can go undetected for some many years. http://therockyriver.com/declared-extinct-in-1985-a-blue-walleye-is-caught/
  23. I've heard of a 12lb 8oz smallie being shocked out of Norris by TWRA. I am not sure if adequate data was taken to support that though. I heard it from a friend that worked at the tackle shop. Owner said he talked to one of the biologist. So, who knows??
  24. I use 200 E7 and 8' Heavy Swimbait rod w/ 65# braid. I tried an E5, but when fishing shallower, i had a hard time keeping the baits where I needed them. Its much easier to reel slower than it is faster when trying to keep that much weight off the bottom.
  25. Agree with this!!! I went to school and got my bachelor in Wildlife and Fisheries. I couldn't get a job due to the economy. Everyone was laying people off. When they did start hiring, they started back with the guys they laid off, then started with the guys freshest out of college. I was stuck in the middle. I now work at a good job that is completely out of my major, but I met the person that hired me while working as a server in a country club on a golf course. It always pays to be respectful to EVERYONE. And a college degree is worth more than you could ever imagine.
