  1. I've never bought any red hooks. But some of the lures that I've purchased had them on there. If that happens, I swap out and put a nickel on the back and use the red up front. If I had a choice, I'd have two nickel ones on the lure. I usually throw a red treble up front on a long smithwick. I've had good luck on the bait in general, I don't think the red hooks really help much (but surely it doesn't hurt nothin, right?) Its the first color to lose its color in the depths of the water anyway, I can't see it doing much good in any water that is not clear or anything the sun is not penetrating deep on.

  3. I have two orras. i used them all last year and put them up over the winter. I use one as a c-rig reel and the other had braid and was used for frog type fishing. I got my c-rig out over the weekend and my AR bearings were not working properly. I feel confident though it is just from too much grease from the factory and when it was stored it allowed the reel to collect dust and the bearings are not functioning properly due to over greasing from factory along with a little bit of firty grease. I think it will be as good as new once a good cleaning and re-lubing is done. Very good reel! I've had this same problem with higher and lower end reels.
  4. Our wal marts here have them in stock. And Dicks Sporting Goods as well.
  5. Also, when casting, point the rod at your target at the end of the cast. And be attentive to how your casting. I thought I was doing everything by the book and I would be off on my target. I finally realized that I was trying to put so much into my cast that I was actually twisting my wrist on the cast causing my bait to fly off of target.
  6. A lure or practice plug about 1/2ounce could make it a little easier to start. To start out, if you hold the rod out even with the floor and release the spool, the lure should slowly fall to the ground and the spool should stop when the plug hits the ground. This will give you a good starting point, you can adjust accordingly from that. If your getting overrun in mid cast, the magnetic brake could be tightened. If your getting overrun from the beginning and end of cast, the cast control knob (circle knob by handle) could be tightened down. You'll eventually get a feel for what needs to be tweaked
  7. IMO i don't think these skeet reese rods should be labeled as a higher class rod. Yes they do cost more, and yes I do have a couple. But I do not believe they are extremely higher quality than a cheap rod. WAL MART sells these rods too (online), but if you take away the 25 dollar yellow paint job, you only have a rod that is about $65 dollars. Compare another "higher end" rod. I think you'll notice a difference in a rod that is, $25, $85, $105, and $150-$180. You'll find subtle differences each step you go up.
  8. They will match any price online as long as you can purchase it online and it is in stock. You do have to call to place your order and have the website that you found the items on hand.
  9. This will be a horrible description because I do not know any of the terminology. The bottom part of the motor (that attaches to your prop) will have screws that hold the casing together. Open this...The wires that come from the foot control all thru the sheath, past the head of the motor will end in this housing... I have had this problem before and have talked to a few others and it ended up being that the soldering on the wires in this bottom housing had came loose. The reason it would work from time to time is because they are in there enough to find a loose connection, but when it is moved or jarred, that connection is disconnected. If you can solder these wires firmly to where they need to be you shouldn't have any more problems. I am sorry for such a bad description....Don't use this post as a how to guide lol
  10. I've been using clear, green, and smoke colors for a long time with good results. I am now throwing a salmon pink color on shallow moving baits, copper color on crank baits, and flourescent on some of my day fishing set ups that i use mainly at night. In my fishing log, I cannot find any evidence to prove that any of it has had a drastic reulst in the pro or con for me. What matters is what you think... You'll never fish anything as good if you think that there is something wrong with it. I can sit here all day and say a black and blue jig works EXCELLENT...but until you start believing in it, its just as good to you as my pink line lol
  11. Rhino line or line x or one or maybe both of these products now have a spray on keel gaurd....I have not really heard reviews on it though... Might be worth looking into though!
  12. Norman also has a big bait like that...The square bill wake bait... they also have the fat boy. strike king has 1XS. I like the manns too
  13. I had the same thing happen to me on a cast.... Broke right in two..I took it back to the tackle shop I bought it from and he was able to return it with no problem...
  14. I like them too. I think they have a more aggressive wobble than most flat sides. So I use them in transition from the flat sides to the bandits.... They work good!
  15. I played sports in middle school, high school, and college...(I also fished tournaments in high school years, and I fished College Bass tournaments in college) I call fishing a sport because it has all the atributes of any other sport I participated in. Football is completely different from basketball, basketball is completely different from tennis, and tennis is completely different from fishing. But, I think they are all sports. Maybe the only difference between a sport and hobby or past time is where your mind set is? I'm not trying to tick anyone off, just trying to get my point across. I guess it's well stated that my point is I think fishing is a sport. lol No reason in trying to change anyone elses mind about something that matters so little in the scheme of life huh?
  16. ANYONE can pitch....ANYONE can quarterback....ANYONE can cast or flip.... I never said they were super human. Or that the other sports are not sports. I just said that fishing was. Because just like anything else, it takes practice for them to get good enough to compete at that level. How bout this.... Practice as much as possible... Study your opponent... Stay mentally prepared... Don't give up when your behind... Learn every angle these is to know... Practice sportsmanship... Endurance/ Flexability / Mental Control / Discipline The 4 C's: Concentration - ability to maintain focus Confidence - believe in one's abilities Control - ability to maintain emotional control regardless of distraction Commitment - ability to continue working to agreed goals If you can tell me which one of these are qualities of a "real sport" and which of them include all sports, including fishing, then I'll agree with you. "bowling, golf, nascar, shooting, ping pong, etc, are for non athletic people that like to compete. " So, this is just for the people that didn't want to practice and play a real sport? I'm going to agree with Bass Ninja on the definition... But, everyone is intitled to their own opinion, which I will respect. But won't have to agree with.
  17. I've never had a problem doing it without a reciept. But I was almost always exchanging it for the exact model as I was bringing in. Only once did Bass Pro give me cash back, and that was for a reel that they did not have in stock.
  18. For all the guys that don't consider fishing a sport? If a participant in a fishing event (sport) is not an athlete, then what exactly is an athlete to you? My son plays baseball...he's 5, he plays in the dirt more than looking at the ball. But, he can throw a spinning rod and catch fish by himself. But, he's only an athlete because he plays baseball, right? Sounds like only baseball, football, basketball, etc are only considered "sports" in which "athletes" compete. If you disagree that fishing is a sport, fine, thats your right. But I would also expect you to think that bowling, golf, nascar, shooting, ping pong, etc. etc. etc. is also NOT A SPORT. Because there is no more physical god gifted talent in them sports as there is in any other. Doesn't really matter to me though, I'm an athelete! I was on the basketball team! I kept the bench warm
  19. I fish them weightless but on a 5/0 EWG superline hook. It gives it enough weight to get down deeper if I need it too but doesn't hinder the action when I want to fish it on top. In pre spawn the bigger fish will usually be under the small ones, so if you can get the fluke down without it getting latched on, you can dead stick it and catch the monsters!
  20. So competitive eaters are athletes? If they do sit-ups or some other exercise that helps them eat faster then yes. Do any of the Elites have a traning regimen that is designed specifically for fishing? ...and I'm not talking about the age old fishing exercise of 12 ounce curls As a matter of fact, yes some do. Talk to Dave Wolak, John Crews or Gerald Swindle and ask out thier workout regimen has factored into their fishing. Or SEVERAL others... Or just read some FLW and BASS magazines.... They talked about eating good, working out, physical and mental excercises. Even different casting techniques and strength band excercises to keep their casting and arms in shape.
  21. I have two set-ups for topwater. 7ft MH Fast for my spooks and walking baits, and 6'6" MH with Med tip for my poppers. I always use 14lb mono or more with my topwater baits.
  22. Hey guys... I've been doing some things to my reels. Tell me what you think this would do and how it would work out. I thought about getting some microlon....and after cleaning out my bearings, spools shaft, gears, etc.... heating them up with a air dryer and adding microlon to all of the heater metal. Several other oils out claim to bond with the metals on a molecular level, but I think these guys were probably the first, I would think they'd have it about figured out by now?? SO...would this work to my benefit? Pros, cons, ???
  23. I've used them...But thats about the extent. They run good and true but I just don't have the confidence. If your boater is catching fish on a lure, throw something like it too. Let the fish tell you first if you need to change your retrieve style, switch colors, or brands (every brand has a different rattle)
  24. It honestly depends. Douglas has two high class river systems feeding it that people love to run up and catch some HUGE smallies. Others run it and flip the shallow trees and bushes and catch some good largemouths. I imagine they should be on a good post spawn pattern and you'll find them on points and humps in the main lake (deep cranks, jigs, c-rigs). There will be a good topwater bite too. If the lake comes up like it looks like it may there will be plenty of vegetation to throw a frog. Sorry to be so broad... That lake has serious potential...There is just too many ways to really sit here and predict how they will be patterned.
  25. 2-25ft of water is a DD22 in FIRETIGER!
