  1. Thanks for the info Blue! Man, that bank has eroded a ton. It looks as though we are boat bound now, so we'll be checking out several areas in and away from the hot water. Say hey if you see an oldish, sparkly blue bass boat with Cornhuskers beating the water to a froth. I'll be praying to the wiper gods tomorrow night .
  2. Hi KC Fellas, It's been five long years since I moved from the KC area (and fished the KC waters), but this Friday I'm heading back "home" to fish for a full day on my favorite Kansas lake: La Cygne Couple questions: The water looks very high based on Bluebasser's fish filled video romps. Is the water too high to effectively wade near the outlet area? (We will most likely be wading). I'd love to fish that current area, but it looks way more steep than it did a few years ago. We'll probably venture to the western shore and cove areas as well. What's the water clarity looking like? Kansas clear (can see the head of the trolling motor?) Worse? Better? That's it for my questions. If anyone is out and about at Lacygne on Friday and sees a couple Nebraska dudes, be sure to give a holler. Thanks a lot. Jim PS. Great job everyone on the KC area fishing reports, pictures, and videos. This is one of the best threads in history.
  3. Survey from Lake Paho: "the number and condition of largemouth bass have improved with sustained high water levels since wetter conditions began in 2008. Electrofishing surveys from 2009-2011 support observations of increased bass reproduction, survival, and growth. Larger bass (15"-24") were common in flooded shoreline vegetation during spring, with some movement over the summer to submerged brush piles and open-water channels." H.S. - I think you were reading the survey for Lake Remembrance just outside of KC. Paho looks good. Wish I had time to make it down there!
  4. http://extra.mdc.mo.gov/fish/prospects/?m=13#a42 Looks like you are good to go. The aerial images of the lake remind me of Hazel Creek. Good luck.
  5. Beautiful fish Bluebasser! Good job (I assume) on the releases as well! My buddy and I fished Lacygne on Saturday and despite a bunch of tournament fishermen we did pretty well. Ended up with 12 largos, six whites and two wipers. My buddy only caught two of the bass, but they were 19" and 21" respectively. That's why I love Lacygne! I did get a 21" wiper so I can't complain. Most of the bass were 14-18" and we were fishing the "coldwater" part of the lake where water temps were ranging between 47 and 50 degrees. I'll be out there tomorrow and Wednesday either in a boat or wading various locales. Gotta love spring break!
  6. I fished La Cygne both Friday and this morning (Sunday). Total fish counts were 16 largemouth and 12 chunky whites, and several of the largos were 18" or better. Water temp has been hovering around 50 degrees both by the outlet and near the north boat ramp cove. The park ranger chainsawed a hole in the ice at the north boat ramp and there were about ten boats unloading when I left this morning. Talked to a friend who made it out in his boat and he said it was easy to launch, but a pain in the *** to get the boat out. He also said fishing was slow. I've been wade fishing all winter long and it's almost as if I've had the whole lake to myself! That said, this weather will have the main boat ramp open in no time and I look forward to getting out in the boat soon! 8-) See ya on the water.
  7. Revo has you on the right track. I don't fish the Missouri side much, but the few times I have, the James Reed Lakes have been easily accessible and easy to pattern for bass. Do you own waders? If you do, good fishing can be had at any of the larger KS/MO metro lakes, especially in the spring or fall. Top lakes on my <20 mile list include: shawnee mission park, kill creek, lake olathe, cedar creek, gardner city lake (LMB virus impacted big fish the past couple of years), Lake Lenexa, longview, and the previously mentioned JAR ponds. All will provide good LMB opportunities. My goal is to catch some hybrids out of Blue Springs Lake this spring! That's a pretty good starting point. Good luck!
  8. Bluebasser the water temp at 6:00 pm on Sunday evening (1/16) was 58 degrees at the outlet and 50 on the flat west of the outlet. The fish were going crazy on both Saturday and Sunday. Then I went back Monday (1/17) late morning and the temp had dropped to 40 degrees in just that short period of time. Crazy. We did catch a few fish, but they were in 45 degree water west of the outlet. When the entire plant shuts off, the water running down the canal is COLD, and it makes that warm water arm cold. You can usually "chase" warmer water as you move west towards the island and marina. I've had an incredible winter fishing Lacygne so far, but the inconsistent power generation makes it more of a crap shoot than normal years.
