  1. I've read a couple articles on this issue. What I have gathered is that the two accused had won 6 fruit jar tourneys in a row (couple hundred bucks each) and people started getting suspicious. It actually sounded like they were being investigated rather than it being a one time protest type deal. It also said that they would only be charged for the most recent findings. The charge is a new one on me "tampering with a sports event". It also says that the two will not be banned from the tournaments.
  2. Ok i was just tryin to see if there was anything in the FLW rules about it. I know a lot of local clubs and tournaments have a stipulation that says no dead fish or a set weight penalty for the big fish pot.
  3. Well I cant find anything about it flw rules. I recently fished a local tournament that uses flw rules and I tied for big fish but the other guy's fish was dead.
  4. I thought someone on here might know. Per FLW rules, can you weigh in a dead fish for the big fish pot without penalty?
  5. we stayed in the first big cove on the left in shoal creek all day. caught a lot of fish but the decent sized ones were spaced out about every hour. caught a 4.5 lb largemouth and a 3 lb smallie though. the rain wasnt as bad as predicted so all in all it was a good day
  6. well is shoal creek productive. i talked to a guy who said you can spend an entire day just in there, but if its not productive then i dont want to waste the day. and the guy im fishing with doesnt really want to fish around the dam due to horror stories he has heard about the boulders and tearing up boats. i didnt know if the fish would be up shallow or not with this up and down weather we have been having.
  7. I'm headed to Wilson this weekend and have never seen the lake before. I'll be putting in at Lock Six on the south side of shoal creek. Just by looking at the maps it seems like it would be a good time of year to head up into Shoal Creek for the shallows and early morning bite. I know earlier in April the tailwater below Wheeler Dam was really producing, but I am wanting to keep fuel consumption to a minimum, so I didn't know if it would be worth it because I haven't heard anything lately on that part of the lake. If anyone could point me in a productive direction, I would appreciate it.
  8. ok that clears up the confusion on sm and lm but what about spots. the tn regulations clearly states no size limit, and a lot of people may say "well why would wanna keep a spot under 12" and most days that is true, but i have fished several tournaments that were just terrible days for everyone, days where 4 fish will put you in the money and that 9 inch 9 ounce spot would push you over the top. sounds funny but its true and thats y i was wondering.
  9. well i know the 15" change was proposed in tennessee waters but i have seen two different 2013-2014 regulations. When I bring it up on my phone it says 18" smallies but when I bring the same page up on my computer it says 15" smallies???? i think you are right, but they need to give people something solid to go on. its already a confusing lake to fish anyways with the reciprocal agreements pertaining to the license and such, so why create more confusion.
  10. I was looking at the upcoming BFL rules and regs out of JP Coleman this weekend and noticed that the size limits are different. It specified 15" on Smallmouth AND Largemouth and 12" spots. So I started researching all three of the reciprocal states size limits and have found limited and conflicting information. When looking at Alabama's regulations one section says 14" smallmouth and then another section says 15" smallmouth after September ? 2012. I never did find the Alabama limit for largemouth and spots, so I looked forward to an FLW tournament in April out of McFarland and saw that it stated 15" on ALL fish. I then went on to Mississippi and found little to nothing besides the BFL regulations. I looked at Tennessee's regs and found that the Smallmouth and Largemouth remained 18" and 15" respectively, but noticed that it said there was no longer a size regulation on spots. However, I found where there was a proposal to change the TN part of Pickwick to 15" on Smallmouth. So to spare further confusion I thought I would check with the guys on here and see if anyone has concrete evidence or proof of the new regulations for the three sections of Pickwick. Thanks for the help guys.
  11. its just a long shot guess but during these hot summer months those rocks hold heat and will heat the water around them and although that rock bluff structure may hold fish at depths less than 10-12 feet, they may find somethin more appealing once that hot water pushes em deeper. however, i have had luck in hot months on rock bluffs, but it has generally been early mornin or after sunset.
  12. I personally would not go out on pickwick in a canoe. You will be ok if you put in at the state park and stay around the marina and the state park cove. but do not get out on the main lake, the boat traffic will eat you alive. your small mouth catch will be limited there but ive seen some big largemouth come out of it. and as far as renting a boat goes, yes you can but only pontoons i think. aqua yacht harbor has boat rentals if your looking for a place to rent one.
  13. This year it would be a toss up between Pickwick and Guntersville for me. Guntersville is ranked 3rd and Pickwick is ranked 12th. However, if I was gonna take a week trip somewhere, its Falcon Lake for me, not in the southeast but from what i hear its well worth the trip.
  14. heard it was completely untrue. however it was a nice fish just closer to 11-13 lbs from what i hear.

  16. Anybody know of any team trails on pickwick lake, tn or ms side. the trail i fished last year was bought out and raised the price and changed up some rules so looking for somethin new.......and cost efficient.
  17. Anybody on here fish the Tenn-Tom Bass Trail last year?
  18. its tough out there right now if you cant find any schooling fish. had a tourney last weekend, got a limit in the boat in the first hour or so then went dry til about 1230 when we got on a school of decent fish. the problem was due to the heat, weight-in was moved back to 1 instead of 3 so as always we were a day late and a dollar short......yet again.
  19. I am looking for a detailed topo lake map of pickwick that contains the bear creek portion. Anyone know where I can get one?
  20. well im a local i only live 20 minutes from pickwick i just havent ever sat down and looked at a good map that shows the humps and ledges.
  21. What is the best contour map of pickwick lake that depicts the underwater stuctures the best? And where can i get it?
  22. saw a 28.66 lb sack toated out today. needless to say he won the tourney by 12 lbs.
  23. that makes sense.
  24. fished pickwick today and spent most of the day avoiding the parade of boats and floater logs. that is by far the most boats i have ever seen on the lake. i know there was a fishers of men outta state park and the bfl outta jp, but wat was tourney was outta waterloo. the main parking lot was full and there was several in the spill over parking lot. it was unbelievable.......we put in at state line around 6:30 and i stopped counting at 30 headed toward tombigbee, i dont know if they were goin to bay springs or fishin the waterway. i wish we had just gone to sit and watch all the boats on the main lake, i bet it was a show. now to the fishing.....it was slow for us, we managed a limit and talkin to some guys at the ramp it sounded like it was hit or miss for everybody. i know several caught some good numbers. anyone on here do any good?
  25. my favorite is the herm special it too is a good all around rod. i use it on my go to jig that i flip, pitch, cast and would kick, throw backwards or hang from a tree to catch a fish. i guess wat im sayin is that this rod works for everything.
