  1. Sign me up. I am "only" 54 but by physical condition and temperament I should qualify.
  2. I like the higher speed reels (>/= 29 IPT) for anything that I move with the rod rather than the reel, heavy cover, and burning a lipless crank, buzzbait, spinnerbait, or chatterbait. For everything else a 6:3ish (26-28 IPT) is my preference.
  3. As long as it is a good strong dark blend I'm in. I like the high end blends, but I drink Folgers Supreme dark roast most of the time. I know that most of you coffee snobs now have categorized me as unenlightened Philistine. I'm OK with that.
  4. I don't have a Shimano rod in my quiver, but I can tell you with absolute confidence the difference from $60 to $150 is big.
  5. Knowing what jig to use on a rocky point, or what spring to use with +P+ ammo in a Sig is cool. Having passion about what you're doing at the time is what keeps life interesting. I've gone through a bunch of things that have caught my interest over the years. Life is a journey brother. Enjoy the trip.
  6. I've had one for about a year that has worked perfectly. I bought it at TW on sale for $79. :-? The reviews are mixed but at the current price it looks like a deal to me.
  7. Last call? Well just one more for the road! Like a few others I have had my issues with alcohol and various drugs. From 74 thru January of 85 I tried hard to prove I was a social user. I was not. I won't go into the details, but once I finally quit I spent a couple of years trying to figure out why I could not have an occasional drink and others could. I do not believe that everyone who abuses alcohol is dependent. Some go through stages where they abuse it and then move on. There have been some here though who dismiss the idea of dependency as a disease, that it is simply an excuse for lack of self control. With all due respect, I believe you are wrong, and I think science is on my side. Alcoholism goes way back in my family. I was skeptical that there could be a genetic link, but there appears to be. The way a drunks body metabolizes alcohol is different from normal drinkers. The way it effects the pleasure sensors in the brain is different. The euphoria is more intense. I think there is value in knowing that some of us are more at risk to abuse substances than others. My daughter was well aware of the family history before she had to make her own decisions. For me alcohol is not an option and I think many folks would be better off without it. Ask me to partake and I will politely say no thanks. If you choose to drink that is your own business. Cheers.
  8. I voted BPS baitcast. The PQ is a fine reel in my price range. Pflueger spinning reels are my choice.
  9. It may have been a Lazy Ike, but more likely a pre-rigged red/purple plastic worm(the one with 3 hooks, some beads, and a prop.). I fished it just like the Ike-chuck and wind. A Zebco 202 and a fiberglass rod that had less backbone than a French politician. Those were the days...
  10. O H I O the problem with with your comparison is that you are assume mothers and wives are the same. Once married you will learn that while they are both women and subject to the behaviors and attitudes that have baffled men since the beginning, wives require an entirely different skill set.
  11. I take a lot of pleasure in all the stuff, but if that was all I had I'd make do.

  14. There will always be a fine line between Government transparency and keeping secrets in the national interest. When an American puts lives at risk by releasing confidential information he/she is guilty of treason. When a foreign national does the same, he/she is guilty of crimes against the United States and should be prosecuted aggressively. I voted nuts.
  15. They have good people that know what they are doing, and what they sell. Great folks to deal with. disclaimer: I am not connected to TW in any way. Just a satisfied customer.
  16. Having been married for 34 years and not having much extra in the budget, my wife would still expect something. It would not have to be expensive, just something that shows a little thought. A last minute card from Walmart would not do. Don't ask how I know this...
  17. That may not be far off! Goose you keep such meticulous records, what do you recon the total weight was?

  20. Sounds like a nice combo to me. I have a couple of President reels that I use regularly. Very good reels for the money. Enjoy!
  21. Ern I'm with you. Even when buying a $24 combo, you should have an expectation that it will work. Granted it might not work long or well, but should work nonetheless. I would think the local store would make it good since it is a very recent purchase.
  22. I am the same way. I still have a bunch of stuff left over from last black Friday. :

I remember that. I also remember thinking that if you asked a bunch of shotgunners for advice about fishing rods, they would probably suggest an Ugly Stik. You may have a point, although the answers to the same question on a shotgun board were exactly the same as here. I did not base my purchase fully on interweb advice, but I see nothing wrong with asking the question here. You and others have plenty of advice to give. 8-)
  24. Goose I've tried them a few times over the years, but never had much success with them. Sounds like they are working for you. 8-) As you know I also appreciate good value. If $1.00 spinnerbaits or $99 BC reels get the job done I'm a happy camper.
  25. Using the same strategy the Rams acquired a really good QB this year. :-?
