  1. I think this may be a little high...or low, depending on the fisherman ?. There is a real difference in high-end gear and entry level. The middle level gear has improved so much over the last few years that it is perfectly adequate for all skill levels. My budget doesn't allow for high-end gear and I do quite well without it. That doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the difference. High-end gear is a luxury, and like luxuries the world over, not necessary but nice if you have the means.
  2. Happy New Year to you and yours also Roger, and all of the rest of my friends here at Bassresource. Y'all be careful with your "partying" tonight. I too have no interest in leaving the house tonight, and will have a quiet evening at home with my wife. I wish you all the best in the new year.
  3. Interesting post. I made my way through it, so as others have said, I guess I must have some patience. The older I get, the less I am driven by results. What is interesting about that is I have become a much better fisherman as a result. That is not to say I am not focused. I am. I just have the confidence that if I do my homework, and pay attention I will find fish. I think there is an important correlation between confidence and patience. There is also comfort in knowing that some days the best you can do is just enjoy the day.
  4. I don't understand the question
  5. I agree. The XL may cast and handle great, but it is too soft and stretchy compared to XT. I use XT for cranks, and topwater baits with good results. I don't care for XL as dental floss though. That is one of the few places braid might work better!
  6. Buying from a trusted source is worth a few extra bucks in my experience. Buying from a trusted auto shop is how I've bought my last few vehicles. I know of too many great deals that ultimately were not. Good luck.
  7. I completely agree. I am always amazed at how some folks will love one of these products, claiming it is the best ever, while others rant on and on about how bad it is. We are all wired differently and some of you guys weird!
  8. I used 6# YZH for years. It helped me to learn how to use a spinning reel to minimize problems. Closing the bail manually while lifting the rod tip to reduce twist, and liberal doses of KVD L&L are essential in my opinion. The last couple of years I have been using 6# Invisx. It works well. You need to check for abrasion and retie regularly, but that is part of using light line. If the L&L website recommends using a cloth to apply, that is new. I have been using it for years the way it says on the bottle, sprayed on. It works well. I see no need to change anything...it ain't broke, so why mess with it?
  9. Thanks for the link. I love DB. Not near enough like him.
  10. Well done. Letting him know your plans was the honorable thing to do. By doing so when you do leave, whether tomorrow or next year, you will leave with a good relationship and reference. That can pay big dividends down the road. Good luck.
  11. Snipe Hunter, welcome to Bassresource. Thanks for your above comprehensive post. It makes the point very clearly that there are few shortcuts when it comes to business, whether brick and mortar or online.
  12. He was a genuine sports fan. His enjoyment of the game and his relationship with the players made him fun to watch. He will be missed.
  13. HardCider, I have to agree with my friend A-Jay. Asking for free online advice on how to make money peddling your unknown and undocumented fishing skills is a little ironic. You may be as good as you think you are. There are countless YouTube fishing sites. A very small percentage of them make any money. Convince enough folks that you have something to offer though, and the advertisers will make you rich. Same thing with a site like this; generate enough traffic and you may make a buck. This site is a great example of how a successful site is started and prospers. Glenn has worked hard to create an atmosphere where people come to learn, teach, and discuss fishing with like-minded people. As you said, there are many who make a good living from fishing, writing, appearances, and endorsements. Without exception, they have proven themselves in the industry. You certainly seem to have the confidence needed. Good luck.

You just won't leave it alone. The above statement is complete nonsense. Murder is illegal in all 50 states. Any self-defense shooting is subject to legal review to determine if the use of lethal force was justified and necessary. "Stand your ground" does nothing to change that. As is shown by this case, a person cannot escalate an encounter to violence and then claim lethal force was justified to end it. It appears he was not justified in his use of lethal force because of his actions leading up to it. What happened here has nothing to do with "stand your ground". Our system of government is founded on our right to defend our freedom, and the 2A guarantees our ability to do that. Your continued insistence that "stand your ground" makes "blatant murder" possible is offensive to every one of us who take our Constitutional right and responsibility to self-defense seriously. Using this case to show why we should not be allowed exercise this right is like using a poaching case to condemn fishing.
  15. RIP sir.

Red Bear, I do not intend to argue with you. My response was to your above inflammatory statement. To quote Forrest Gump, "That's all I have to say about that."

Red Bear there is enough evidence for charges against the shooter to have been made. I said from the beginning that this was possible. With that said, a stand your ground law simply means you have no responsibility to run for your life when lethal force, or the threat of lethal force is used against you. You have the right to "stand your ground" to defend yourself. I don't know anything about PFT or care to, though I know plenty about NBC's position on guns. What I do know is any "news" organization that makes that statement about "stand your ground" obviously has an anti-gun agenda, and regardless of credentials, is more concerned with that than the law, the Second Amendment, or the Constitution. A young man is dead here and the law will decide who is responsible. In any case it is a tragedy. This is not the forum to make inflammatory comments about guns and gun control.

If this guy is guilty of bad judgement and an aggressive attitude then he is probably in for a well deserved bad time. He was in his car when the shooting took place. He was legally carrying a firearm. I will let the professionals decide if he acted properly. Shooting an aggressive attacker if you are in fear of your life is not a crime, and should not be.
  19. I like it. I think old George Jones would have been happy with it too. It is a fresh take on a very traditional country song. Well done.

I am sorry for the loss of this young man. Stating '"stand your ground' makes it easier to get away with blatant murder", shows a lack of understanding. The article (and NBC sports) quoted has a serious anti-gun agenda. Attacking someone who cuts you off in traffic is a dangerous thing in any state.
  21. I agree Mike. Happy Thanksgiving.
  22. Thanks Glenn. Happy Thanksgiving to all y'all. Have a blessed day!

    Rumors

That right there is funny! I heard from a reliable source that Goose52 has given up fishing, and has turned his intellect and organizational skills to needlepoint.
  24. You beat me to it John. Nothing political about honoring the men and women who have given us the privilege of living in a free country. Heaven knows we have our issues, but we are still the greatest nation on the planet. Thank you veterans.
  25. I've used a lot of it, from 6# to 15#. I think it is a very good line for the money.
