  1. Bigbill mentioned hitting the gym. Being in good shape makes things work better, especially as we get older. Many of the issues that limited my time on the water no longer do since I started hitting the gym a few years ago.
  2. There are several generations of Cubs fans who have come and gone still waiting for a World Series championship. I hope they get it done this year, but do not bet much on it. They have a long tradition of not...
  3. This thread has taken an unexpected turn. I like that. You guys can talk about the "pos" quality of vehicles all you want. We have come a long way in nearly every measurable element of quality over the last 25 years. 200,000 miles is not unexpected anymore, and materials, safety, milage, emissions, comfort, and dependability are far better than it's ever been. With both vehicles and boats, that is what makes buying used a good value for those of us who don't have the deep pockets required to buy new every few years.
  4. Catching fish consistantly pitching is a skill that has little to do with luck. I agree it is a numbers game in the sense that keeping your bait in the stike zone is important, but that may or may not be a function of the number of pitches. Location is job one. Once you know where they are, bait selection and placement come into play. Having done that properly, if they are taking it on the initial drop, you are good to go. Maybe they want it on the second or third movement or drop though. Now speed and cadence are key. My point is, 10 pitches done well will catch more bass than many times that number done incorrectly. As bassinhole said, it is not a beginners technique. When it's right though, it is as much fun as you can have with your clothes on. A big fish on a short line will test your equipment, skills and temperament. Good luck!
  5. I think you have expressed your dislike clearly! I would like to see the Colts win just for the hysterical reaction it would get.
  6. A-Jay you are a true fan. I am going to watch the baseball game, but will keep an eye on the football. I like a little melodrama occasionally!
  7. ABit getting a limit with a single shot is impressive! It's been a few years since I have been, but last time out I went through a lot of shells without one. The Firing Line is a firearms forum with a lot of knowledgeable people. A post there will get your questions about the Benelli answered. Anything other than Mossberg or Remington is mostly guess work for me. Good luck.
  8. I wonder what the odds of the Cubs and Mets playing for the National League championship were at the beginning of the season? Wasn't anyone predicting that!
  9. The LCP is a great little pistol. The .380 in your pocket is worth much more than the .45 in the gun safe at home if the stuff hits the fan.
  10. So much for predictions...
  11. I really was indifferent about the game until the idiots in the stands started throwing crap on the field when the go ahead run scored on the throw back to the pitcher. It was a strange play, but the right call was made. It was hard to watch the Rangers come apart like they did. I'm with you. I will cheer for Houston or KC in the ALCS.
  12. Houston is up by a couple, but it's still early. I am predicting the World Series will be decided by the wild card teams. I really hope the Cubs get it done this year. Their whining has gone on long enough!
  13. Go to any gun forum on the web and you can find countless discussions on this topic. There is very little difference in the "stopping power" of handguns in any traditional ccw caliber. Carry what you shoot the best and are able to carry regularly. One shot stops with a handgun happens a lot on the internet, not so much in real life.
  14. I think that is A-Jay in the lead position!
  15. C and G I think the Cubs and Mets will be a great series. Of course, there is not a team in baseball that I wouldn't cheer for against the Dodgers.
  16. Congratulations Cubs. We were the best team in baseball all year; you're the best right now! I hope you bring the championship to Chicago. Good luck.
  17. Yep. That's just who he is. He usually gets the job done. That covers a lot of sins. He and Molina almost came to blows in the dugout during a game this season, and no one messes with Yadi! He really pitched well today-with two bad pitches. The Cubs made us pay both times. It is not over yet though.
  18. I am not loving this!
  19. The Cards have played well against him all year. As good as he is, Superman he ain't! He is a beast though. This game is a long way from over...
  20. I saw it. Utley has been doing this sort of thing his entire career. I don't think he was intentionally trying to hurt anyone, but his only concern was taking out the second baseman and if he was hurt, so be it. He has always been a dirty player IMO, and ending his career this way seems about right to me. I do think it will change the way taking a player out is allowed, and that is a good thing.
  21. Houston is a very good team, but KC showed why they were the best in the AL this season. Great teams find a way to win. I am counting on the Cards to do the same tonight. The Cubs are already counting the win...we will see!
  22. I used it for everything for years. It works fine for topwater.
  23. My experience is more like Long Mike's. My Walmart has a limited selection of the things I want at best. The St. Louis area Bass Pro Shop has a great selection. It doesn't always have everything I want, but I am a fan. Their customer service is second to none. Try finding someone who gives a rip at Walmart; there are some, but your odds aren't good.
  24. C and G it was about as big a strike zone as you'll ever see. With Lackey pitching that is a good thing! I expect plenty of fireworks from the Cubs before this is over. I love playoff baseball!
  25. OE I was just reading through the thread again. I know you want to keep your kit small enough to carry in your tackle bag. One more thing you might consider is a small watertight bag to pack everything in. Keeping bandages and dressings dry is a problem without one. Even with one condensation can and will get stuff damp if you don't let it dry out occasionally. I hope you never need any of this stuff.
