  1. This is a very interesting discussion, esp. getting the guides point of view. I have only been on a couple of guided trips and both of them were great experiences that I will never forget, and were well worth the money. One of those trips was an off-shore charter, where my wife and I fished with 6 other folks. The captain positioned the boat and the 2 mates did the work of keeping everyone fishing. An interesting thing happened on this trip that I think is relevent to this conversation. We began the day fishing for Amberjack. Each fisherman was allowed to keep one-I think this is the legal limit. We fished 4 at a time and everyone caught 1 except my wife. After she had missed a couple the captain was grumbling about her missing fish. He wanted to be able to tell all his buddies and prospective customers that we had caught our limit. I understood his point, but reminded him that she was doing her best and as far as I was concerned we had payed for the experience and not to increase his marketability. Ann ended up catching more fish than the rest of us and the crew could not have been better. It was a great trip, the captain turned out to be a nice guy, and I learned that numbers and size are sometimes more important to the guide than the customer. I believe if you have the cash a guide can be a great way of learning-esp. a specific boby of water. I think knowing exactly what to expect is a key part of enjoying the trip.
  2. Maybe he could contact the Mets staff for the proper use of these items?
  3. My fishing has been very limited for the last several months due to health problems, but over that same time I have learned much about bass fishing and found a place to enjoy the fellowship that is for me, so much a part of the sport. Talking about tackle, techniques, and the experiences of fishing is a large part of the joy of fishing IMHO, and we can do that here in a comfortable setting. As Avid said it is the "knowledge, sharing, comraderie, humor, and vigilance" that I find here that makes visiting this site a daily occurrence. Thank you all.
  4. muddy Ozzie will never make my list of Cardinal greats for the same the same reasons JETER is your best player. Jeter is an incredible player and a real leader on the field and in the clubhouse. Ozzie was never a leader in our clubhouse. IMO he was a devisive presence and was more concerned with his own agenda than the good of the team. The fact that he refuses to take part in official Cardinal activities is a testimony to his ego. Just ranting a little :
  5. YankeesWin, I have only one word for you-Philistine. ;D ;D ;D ;D
  6. "Nice job Nick. You are well on your way to proving you have what it takes on the water, and you seem to the have the intelligence and personality needed to make it big in the business of fishing. Keep working hard, add a good education, listen to your momma, and one of these days we'll all be saying, "I knew him back when he was just getting started.'" Nick, the above post is from a few weeks ago when you made the paper. I am going to save it for future use. I expect to see many more success stories about you in the future. Well done. Pinkfloyd Hang in there young man. YankeesWin is right; patience and persistance are the keys. In other words, keep working hard to improve your skills, learn from what you read, and from local fishermen whenever possible. Stay focused and one day soon we will be reading stories of your success in the paper. BTW Nick has already had more success than many others who have been fishing a lot longer than either of you have been around. He has worked hard, had great support, and made good contacts. We can all learn from his example. 8-)
  7. I hate to see Mulder get shelled in his first game back. We really, really need him. :

  10. Raul I am not familiar with that drug!? Is it available here in the US? Do I need a prescription? Can you send me bottle? It would be nice to have a dose or two for "emergency" use. ;D ;D
  11. Welcome
  12. FatBoy Knowing your skills with the search feature, you can find much info there. There are also a few interesting articles in the library that will answer some of your questions. Since I have time on my hands I'll give you my .02. Night fishing is special for a variety of reasons, but one of my favorites is the quiet and solitude it provides. A lake that is insanely loud and crowded during the day is much more peaceful at night. Another reason is on a very clear-water lake bass are more willing to bite in low light situations-in my experience. As for location at night, you will get a lot of opinions. My opinion is do what you would do during the day and let the fish decide. Time of night is another question that will get different answers. Go when you can and find out what works best. I have had great success early and late. Just go. Good luck.
  13. That is only 280# of bass per acre. Of coure if you factor in the conventional wisdom that 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water, and assuming a man of your skills was in the 10% zone, RW may have a point; fishing can be tough. That may also be what makes it so good?!
  14. What a great story. You are a lucky man. Encouraging, supporting parents are far too rare. Thanks for the story. I didn't really start fishing seriously until I was in my 20's when I discovered it was not just watching a bobber or tight-lining for catfish. It started out as an excuse to spend time with my brother-it didn't take long till we were both hooked. I guess the truth is my brother was the one who started me bass fishing.
  15. I think maybe my southern friend you have been in the sun too long! ;D ;D ;D
  16. Good work FatBoy. There will be a little extra in your pay envelope at the end of the week.
  17. Cards win ;D ;D ;D GMAN, Weaver may start Thursday :
  18. cart7 mentioned a couple of my....favorites. Hitting the release button while setting the hook-what a good time that is. :-?
  19. Great story. Finally a subject that I can do well in. :
  20. I haven't been keeping up with this thread, and notice two things after reading it in one sitting: (1) The Cards really may be in trouble. (2) Muddy_man is a poet, esp when it comes to writing about Brooklyn, food, and baseball.;D
  21. KD28 Good information. Thanks. FatBoy I support your opinions-right up to the point they differ from mine. ;D
  22. Pitching a spinnerbait to cover cover like a lay-down or standing wood in deeper water has caught me some nice fish. I like to pitch it close, and let it drop vetically just like a jig or plastic. I usually use a single colorado blade for this technique. Some times I will work it back to the boat, other times I just burn it back to make another pitch; depends on the fish.
