  1. Hey guys. It's been a while since I've checked in. I am enjoying catching up on the latest news, gossip, and nonsense, Speaking of which, it looks like it is going to be a loooong season for my beloved Birds. Last season was a joy, but the magic seems to gone here in river city this year. What shocks me is our inability to score. We all knew the pitching was suspect, but ...... :'( :'( It is good talking to y'all. Muddy, it looks like your Mets are a force to reccon with. I don't really mind a New York team winning as long as it is not the Yankees. :-* K
  2. Teddy Roosevelt. Fisherman, conservationist, diplomat, hero. That's me. : ;D
  3. Well said G. I am glad it's that time of year again. GO CARDS!!!
  4. I agree with the others that a roadrunner (1/8 or 1/4oz are my favorites-on 6 or 8# line) is a very good bass bait. In very clear water, esp. when the bite is slow, they will often save the day. You may pick up a few BIG crappie as a bonus. A 3" grub is my favorite trailer, but I have caught many on marabou without any other trailer.
  5. Redline Since you're in the market for a vehicle, I have a sweet 91 Ford Econoline XL 15 passenger van that I would let go for a decent price. She is not too fast and has 166,000 miles on her, but will haul a lot of stuff and pull your boat. 8-) I'll PM a picture and details if your interested. :D Your story reminded me of a friend who has deep pockets and likes nice cars. He had just puchased the big BMW sedan, and decided to see how she handled at speed. He took it out on the interstate very early one morning, and was clocked at 135mph by the MO. state police. When he was asked if he knew how fast he was going, he replied he didn't know for sure but knew it was well above the limit. He was told what they clocked him at, and aked why in the world he was driving so fast. He smiled and said he was just driving with traffic. The officer said, "Sir, there isn't any traffic." My friend smilled and said, "That is just my point." The officer laughed, shook his head, cited him for 90mph in a 70mph zone, and told him to slow down, traffic or not. It pays to keep your head, and a sense of humor. A little luck dosen't hurt either.
  6. Logger My prayers are also with the family. Sounds like no one was hurt, and that is a blessing. K
  7. I am excited about this trip, and I am not even going. I suspect the stories from this trip will legendary. Flying from south Florida to New Jersey, on your way to fish Lake Fork is one of the craziest things I have ever heard of a fisherman doing (and we all know how nuts most of us are). What a GREAT idea! 8-) Enjoy the journey .
  8. Happy Birthday!
  9. My prayers are with Jim, Sherry and their family.
  10. I also love to talk politics and religion, and have been involved in many discussions about both on this site. As much as I enjoy the exchange of ideas though, it has become clear to me over the last few months that these topics are better discussed elsewhere. Discussing politics or religion can be divisive even among good friends unless all participants are very careful; to do it online where body language, facial expression, and tone cannot be expressed or discerned is even more difficult. Our religious and political beliefs are very much a part of who we are as individuals, and while we can not and should not try to separate ourselves from them, open discussion of them here has proven to cause more harm than good. I believe Glenn and his Mod squad have made a tough call that is in the best interest of the forum. Good job guys.
  11. It's smileys like that that make New York such a frightening place for us country boys.
  12. Catt I'm a man that enjoys food (as my full figure will attest) and I'm not sure that it gets any better than the meal described. Y'all sure know how to eat down there. I'll have to settle for some Zattarains beans and rice with smoked sausage-it's not bad for this part of the world.
  13. avid You're in my thoughts and prayers, as are the rest of the folks in our "club." Good luck with your continued treatment. It sure would be nice if medicine were an exact science. :-/ Paparock Let us know how your doing. We miss you.
  14. "It's so cold out there that lawyers are putting their hands in their own pockets." Zel, that is funny. ;D ;D ;D
  15. Hopefully the owner will do the right thing. Keeep your powder dry and hang in there. Good luck.
  16. He looks like Papa Smurf in all his photos. :-* Draw your own conclusions. Nice fish. It is good to see you're able to get out and catch a few.
  17. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Have a great day muddy. I lift my coffee cup to you. SALUTE
  18. Good post Water Dog. I completely agree with you. It is really nice to see that some in professional sports understand that the world does not revolve around them, and that there are more important things in life than winning.
  19. Muddy_man January 5, 1985, was my last drink. There are quite a few folks on this site ( that I'm aware of, and I'm sure many I'm not) that understand the destructive nature of addiction. One day at a time, brother... Fishbear I don't have any personal experience with your disorder, but I can tell you that you're welcome here. I will keep you in my prayers. Good luck.
  20. I have read this thread with interest. The issue of global warming is one that can't be ignored, in my opinion. What frightens me most about this is the great difference between the environmentalists and their supporters on one hand, and those who think this is just an existential blip on the cosmic radar screen on the other. I don't begin to know, or even understand all I do know about this. The development and industrialization of the last century has negatively impacted our environment in many ways; deforestation and pollution are facts of life. On the other hand, the Earth has shown an amazing ability to heal itself and many doomsayers of the past have been proven wrong. Al Gore sites many scientists that say because of increased greenhouse gases produced by man the world as we know is coming to an end; other scientists say the temperature of the oceans, controlled by movement of the Earth's molten magma core, is the mechanism by which the Earth's temperature is regulated and our production of greenhouse gases is of little real consequence. There are many other opinions within the scientific community. It's hard to know what to believe. While I think Gore has used the issue to promote himself and sell books (I know, my conservative roots are showing :), I believe the conversation is of value. We are the stewards of the planet, and have a responsibility to future generations to protect their inheritance. The consequences of our decisions will be our legacy.
  21. Ronnie In another post avid said you are a role model on this site, who represents Christianity in a very positive way (my paraphrase). Your post above clearly illustrates his point. I am not happy that you qualify for membership in this ever-growing club, but since you do, WELCOME.
  22. Sounds like a winner. I will give it try first chance I get. Thanks
  23. Very nice rig. Congrats. Sounds like you made a great deal on it too. We'll all be interested to hear how the Verado performs for you (as soon as the water softens up a bit ). Good luck.
  24. Thanks for the very informative post. 8-)
