  1. I think you'll get more than $8 worth of enjoyment out of talking about your Japanese "throw-fishing" reel. ;D
  2. AC500 I was thinking about your posts and it occurred to me that if my Cards had made the series, and Pujols was hit 3 times in 2 games I would feel just like you. Whether it is intentional or not, when your big guy is being hit it's a problem.
  3. I would ask around at the local bait and tackle shops to find who they recommend. There is no doubt that the newer reels are superior, but that reel may serve the purpose for you very well. If newer was always better Roadwarrior and I would be in trouble.
  4. Rooster I have 3 of one and 2 of the other and IMHO the PQ will out cast the extreme every time. The spool seems to start quicker and it is a smoother reel in every way. The dual control alone is worth the extra couple of dollars. Just my .02
  5. I don't either. Intimidation is a part of the game but to intentionally hit him in the situations they have doesn't make sense to me. The book is to pitch him in, and that's what they are doing. Their failure to execute has just served to make him angry and now he seems determined to make them pay... The games have been fun to watch. Not having a dog in the hunt makes it easier to just enjoy the game. I don't care what anyone says, baseball is still the best game in town. 8-)
  6. I have had a set of the uninsulated Cabelas Guide wear for several years now. It is great stuff-well made and works beautifully. The only down side for me is it is a little too heavy for summer use. That is more of an issue of me being an old fat guy that sweats easily. I have a light set of rain gear I use when it's hot and getting damp is not as big a concern, but if it's raining all day or the temp is a little cool the Guide Wear works very well. Even when it's cold a couple of layers underneath and your good to go. I have a couple of friends that use Guidewear and are happy with it also. I have had no experience with the BPS stuff.
  7. It looks like the Yanks may continue that winning tradition. They just keep coming at you-a powerful line up and great pitching. I'm still rooting for the Phillies though...
  8. Hmm...: I know weird concept huh? Buy something for it's usability not its aesthetics? Who would do that? That is my new favorite comment to date. ;D ;D
  9. The answer that BPS customer service has given me is that the catalog and online stores are different divisions of BPS, and do not necessarily know the prices of the other operating divisions. It is not a very good answer, but I do know JCPenny's has a similar policy. As bassnajr said, write down the number and take it along. It ain't that big a deal IMO.
  10. I have experienced the same thing a couple of times. I always check the catalog prices before I go, just in case. I am on the record as a BPS supporter, but this is an area that they don't get it right. BTW $99 is a great price on the extreme outfits. 8-) If I had any extra cash I get a couple myself.
  11. Basic Baitcast Reel Setup 101 The above link will give you a good start. The proper line does make a big difference. I agree with the earlier posts that you will probably waste some line at the start. We all do. With that said some low end lines are no bargain. Trilene XL is relatively cheap and a good place to start IMHO. Good luck. Edit: I don't know why I can't copy the above link. :-/ Go to the top of Rods, Reels and Line page, and check out the baitcast problems thread. A lot of good info.
  12. +1 If you can get them to do the right thing without involving a lawyer it will save time, money and headaches. Good luck.
  13. Nice boat. When I was younger I spent countless happy hours fishing from a 14' V Polorcraft w/18hp Johnson. Some of my best fishing memories... That's what happens when you get old-you get nostalgic :. I would also recommend wearing a PFD (the inflatables are nice) and taking a safe boating course. I learned most of my lessons the hard way. It is a wonder I survived and didn't hurt anyone else while doing it. Good luck and enjoy the new boat 8-).
  14. I have a 5X on the bow of my boat and like it a lot. Since you already have an HDS at the console you know how good the sonar is. 8-) I have wondered if I should have spent the extra and bought the HDS5 for the bow. It would be nice to to see the bigger picture while up front. I don't think this post has helped at all . I will be curious to hear what you decide and how it works for you. Good luck.
  15. Great combo I agree. 8-)I have 1 used for shaky heads and 1 for wacky rigging senko style baits. Both are 6'6" M-F/President 6730 reels
  16. Like most plastics they can be used in a variety of ways. I have always used them like roadwarrior suggested. I introduced them to a friend who now uses them on a football or stand up jig most of the time. He has had good success this fall in deeper water, esp with bigger fish. I've never used them at night, but because of the bulk I would think it would work just fine. Good luck.
  17. I've used a bunch of Arkie jigs over the years. A decent jig for the money IMO. Jigs are my favorite technique and a very versatile bait. Sometimes a lighter jig is a good option. Good luck.
  18. AMEN
  19. B-B I'm rooting for the Phillies because they are the NL representative, and they are playing the evil Yankees. I come from a long tradition of NL good/AL bad/Yankees very bad. : With that said if I were a betting man my money would be on the Yanks.
  20. Hawk your post wasn't up when I started my reply. I didn't want to insult you by not including you with Senile 1 and me. :-[
  21. As good as you are with spinning, with those reels and the proper rods for the lures you're throwing, you will figure it very quickly. You understand the amount of energy it takes to reach the target, and that is a very big part of the puzzle. The rest is just practice. Good luck. 8-)
  22. While your looking at BPS reels I recommend the Pro Qualifier 6.4:1. At 26" per turn I think it is a great all purpose reel.
  23. An addition to your house is probably a better choice. ;D Oh well it was worth a shot.
  24. It sounds like you understand the lake pretty well. My first reaction reading your post is some fishermen have a tendency to exaggerate the size and numbers of fish. Now I'm not talking about me or you or Senile1, I'm just saying... The other thing that comes to mind is off-shore structure. Is it possible there are some spots you have not fished. Some time looking around with your electronics might help. If you've already done that, disregard. Just thinking out loud. Good luck. I've got to learn to type faster. Add hawk to your "trusted" list. :
