Summer time fishing everywhere is slow....Just returned from the Pompono/Deerfield area and now back home here in South Carolina. Couldn't get up to Lox but spent a week fishing local canals and area res lakes. I managed to fish every day but started early 7AM and got off the water by 10:30 AM. Just too hot. Caught over 50 bass and a handfull of snakeheads. And as with other posts, most of the fish were active early. Small bass schooling into bait fish on the bank. It seemed after that was over the only bass I could catch were deep in the center of the canal using 10" T-rigged worms and the bite was slow. If you could stand the heat, you could still catch snakeheads shallow. I never drank so much water in my life! But still enjoyed the trip.

Any results on the snakehead roundup tournament on July 6TH ?

There is a lake here in South Carolina I just started to fish late last year. First ever trip there I caught an 8 1/2lber. Fished 3 more times without a fish over 2 lbs! Almost gave up on it. Then in December went back to the lake and caught an 8lber and a 7 1/2 lber on the same trip! Went there 5 more times during last winter...it was horrible. I was lucky to get a few bass that would even measure, and then it happened! Very next trip I caught the biggest bass of my life. 10.80 lbs this past February!! I guess the moral of the story is don't give up on a good thing!

I just read this on the internet this morning. Looks like all you Florida snakehead hunters have scared them out of Florida. They are now in New York City!!! From MSNBC: "An Invasive predator fish that can live out of water for days to be hunted in Central Park, New York. Environmental officials are planning to survey a Central Park lake this week to search for an invasive type of toothy predator fish that threatens to disrupt the ecosystem as one was quietly observed in Harlem Meer. Signs have recently gone up around the Harlem Meer warning anyone who catches one not to throw it back warning anglers to "secure the fish" and "keep it in a secure container until it is picked up by officials." The sign is "just to let people know that this fish is in there, if you find it please do not return it to the water and it also helps people become aware that there are things in the water that should not be there," said Melissa Cohen, Department of Environmental Conservation fisheries manager. The man-made lake is located in Central Park's northeast corner between 106th and 110th streets.

Be careful unhooking them. They in fact do the "death roll". If you club them first, like Shane does in his videos, be careful not to knock your line instead. That happened to me last year. Hooks flew out and into my shoulder!

Yes you Northern boys have it rough now. That's too bad cuz I caught over 50 bass this past weekend here in South Carolina. Oh well that's the price you pay for living there! Just teasing. Hey Gambler, I'm headed to Lox next week. How's the water level there? Anything different from last year?

I agree with a previous post. Here in South Carolina the fishing is better in the winter than in the summer. Water temps as of Thanksgiving were 56° to 60°. Caught my 2nd largest bass ever since moving here just last week. 7.5 lbs. As long as the evening temps do not go to freezing or below, bass will stay and bite especially later in the day. Bass will move up to shallow areas in the afternoon. That's whats been going on here for weeks now. Cold mornings to warm afternoons moves the bass shallow and catchable.

We are constantly picking up trash on the shores of Lake Hartwell here in SC. It's the redneck partiers and some of the live bait fishermen who are leaving this crap all over. Nothing closes public access like liter! I've seen it happen more than once. Like oink says, pick up what you can. When I lived in New York we had state parks with "carry in carry out" policies. Trash containers were removed that were there for years. You can just guess what the ground looked like with no place for these pigs to dump thier garbage. Many bass clubs have "lake cleanup" days. Although it made only a small dent in the trash it was great PR!

That airboat captain, Wallace Weatherholt, who lost his hand feeding a gator, was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor. Rule is feeding gators is illegal, and those who feed an alligator face a second-degree misdemeanor, with a fine of up to $500 and possible jail time. According to a family taking the tour, Weatherholt hung a fish over the side of the boat and had his hand just above the water when the alligator bit his hand off just above the wrist!

What I find so interesting is, if many years ago you wished there was a new fish that was easy to catch, using simple baits, was a fantastic fighter, grew to 10 lbs and was delicious to eat, we all would have wanted them!.....Well here they are boys! Always be careful for what you wish for...LOL

What's the best way to kill these snakeheads? I fish a lot residential lakes and don't want to throw them on the bank. I guess I could stab them with a knife but does anyone have a quick and cleaner way to dispose of them?

Anyone hear about this? I was going to be one when I retire but maybe not now!

Will the "Animal Planet" have any problem with all you all terminating all those snakeheads??? Somehow i don't think they want snakehead clubbing on video! LOL

Hey Shane...although I haven't been to LOX since I left South Florida in early March, just got a report from Capt. Don today. Fishing LOX south end they nailed over 100 on Friday and another 57 yesterday. He caught most on wacky rig trick worms and t-rigged culprit's. Hopefully you should do well there tomorrow. I'm headed to the Northeast next week for those Yankee spawner's. Keep those U-tube video's comming!...Good luck.

Just got back from the "Redneck Riviera" Monday. Caught about 20 LM's for two days fishing local ponds, canals and golf courses. Most on grubs and Yum ribbontails. Water temp was 76°. Not as good as last year's trip where I caught triple that amount. The warm temp's the past two weeks killed the early bass fishing not just in MB but even here in Greenville SC. Most bass done spawning...Headed up north now for my next trip. Good Fishing everyone!

Last time I posted, I was preparing for my 3rd trip this winter to South Florida. Based upon what happened last trip, I bought lots of snakehead stuff like Zoom's Horny Toads and Ribbitt frogs, 4/0 and 5/0 hooks etc. But as often happens I caught only 1 snakehead during the whole trip...But did catch lots of largemouth's! We first headed to Loxahatchee on Monday and Tuesday. We caught 58 on Monday and 67 on Tuesday using wacky rigged senko's and trick worms. Most of the larger fish came from the canal with many smaller ones flats along the sawgrass edges and eelgrass beds. Largest went 6 pounds with several 3's and 4's. Wednesday and Thursday fished residential canals in Coconut Creek and Pompono Beach. Figured here is where I'm going to get some snakeheads...NO...just more largemouth's. Caught over 50 for the two days. Then Friday I fished Wynmore off Copans Rd. Now here is where I really caught some nice bass in all those ponds. largest landed was probably close to 8 lbs! Even had a few break me off. We headed back home on Saturday morning through tornado weather all up I-95 back to South Carolina! Some pics from Lox:

I'm headed back to Pompono Beach area next week. This time I'm loaded with snakehead gear!...Frogs and 4/0, 5/0 hooks! Last month I made this trip, I was geared for bass and caught mostly snakeheads...I went back home with no spinnerbaits and broken crankbaits! I caught snakeheads in almost all the canals in Margate, Coconut Creek and Deerfield Beach and NO peacocks!

Addict is right. I have been fishing the Ft. Lauderdale area for over 20 years. Even though I don't live here, I catch fish better than places I have lived in for a long time. What a fisherman's paradise! There is only one place in the world like South Florida.
