my wife got hooked on prize candles. they have the rings inside them. she gave me a bunch i figured it would work just wanted some imput from the pros. i have used some wax melts that i cut up but i have been doing part of it wrong. when it is on fire i havent stirred it yet i just let it burn. i will now stir while there is a flame. thank you for the quick reply.
i read that someone was getting his wifes old candles for flux. i asked my wife for hers but all of them are soy candles. i havent read anything about anyone using soy candle wax. i just wanted to make sure it was ok to use as flux.
is there a website that keeps track of the water temps or is is just from people who have fished recently? i am in wichita and want to fish this lake but not much info out there that i have found.
ok reading online pearl paint will have a shimmering pearl look to it. an iridescent will have the same but with added color shift depending on the light. Does anyone have some examples on baits they have painted. i just got 14 pearlized color and 8 iridscent colors from createx. i wanted to see what the difference is on an actual bait so i can see how they act with the other paints i use.
ok well i found a way to get an answer...
first go here:
http://www.matweb.com/tools/weightcalculator.aspx
you can use the diameter of your drill bit and the depth you think to get the answer in grams.
then go here:
http://www.metric-conversions.org/weight/grams-to-ounces.htm
put in your grams. and it will convert to ounces.
so now you can use bullet weights and rubber bands to get how much you need and then take that weight and drill the holes to depth and have the right size. i guess i answered my own question. maybe this will help others as well.
what i am trying to figure out is if there is this.... i have a 1/4 inch drill bit and i drill 1" into the bait and fill with lead, what does it weigh? it there a chart or something that shows for whatever size drill bit a certain depth with that bit will weigh a certain amount. i have made several cranks and swimbaits and they have all failed and i am running out of bullet weights. i want to drill a hole and fill with lead. if not i guess i could make a mold and then just make the lead 1/4" and then cut in different lengths. any suggestions on material to make that mold out of?
i am new to this as well. I have been using the screw in eyes. From the videos that i have watched on youtube i believe they base it off of the type of wood they are using. when using balsa everyone has used the line through. Everything else they have used screw eyes. with the balso you dont have to cut the lure in half. watch the videos from Mikko. search solarbait on youtube. he is awesome. and has a great 2 video series on making a balsa crank with line through that you dont cut the bait in half.
i am new to the lead pouring game. i have one mold, the Do-it poison tail mold. I love the head design because i fish wood and as a swimjig the design bounces off really well. I will be buying another mold and modifying it so that i can pour that head as a spinnerbait.
im new to kansas too. i have heard good things about melvern. one thing you can do is google. melvern fishing reports. you will get all kinds of info from current lake levels and conditions. it will pull up forum posts that you can read. they may not be current but if they were posted around this time of year it will give you a start. do you have a boat? if you could get some water temps that would give people a start to give ideas where to fish.
i am looking for a bass club. i found one but most of the lakes they fish are way too far away for me. if you are part of one, know of some or are thinking about starting one email me.... whitelightning313 @ yahoo.com
what about something like this guy....
http://www.bearsbaits.net/forum/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=97
its a very nice bait. the name of the guy who made that one is twisted liquid baits he has a site. he can do any color you want. on that forum there are several people who make them in sizes from 3" up to the "beast" which is a 6" monster.
