  1. That can happen and will with every rod company, only some of them charge a replacement fee. Years ago I had 3 Loomis IMX rods in a row do this to me. They charged me $50 a piece, Abu charged you nothing. Dont see anything to complain about.
  2. I fished 1oz jigs the past 2 days with mine. I broke off about 20 jigs and I popped em pretty hard trying to free the jigs, the rods held up just fine. Rods do get damaged during shipping from time to time. I recall a rod company losing nearly and entire shipping container of rods from shipping. Talk about major bummer, stuff happens when shipping.
  3. The lakes in California fluctuate up to a couple hundred ft a year. The weeds are no big deal, bass love weeds. The fish will come back from the pillaging. No standing timber? Is it now laying down? Rocks and grass are huge in Clear Lake California, we also have tules(I think easterners call them reeds). You can also put in some wood or other cover.
  4. I used to use co-poly's alot. But have not used em in a few years now. I use braid on a few rods , Big Game on a few, and fluoro on most. I just dont have a need for it anymore. Fluorocarbon was not real good or affordable years ago, but that has changed. The 2 brands I used were YoZuri, the other Fluorclear by P Line. I really preferred the Pline. Only thing with that is I had to change it often, just didnt last long.
  5. Thats the one I was thinking of.
  6. The local fisheries biologists should be able to help ya out. THats how I do it. They are state or county employee's and usually eager to talk about it.
  7. I find the 703CB glass to be a great and versatile rod, but some like em longer. I believe there is a longer Powell CB glass rod on sale on the Powell site, and maybe at TW.
  8. Personally I use the S for flippin(punching) and pitchin. The STX and Premiers can be found on all my other rods.
  9. The smallest one I throw is 6in and right at 2oz. I cant think of any with a bigger profile and lighter.
  10. The key is to find out what the predominant species is in the body of water you are fishing. Also their seasonal coloring.
  11. Yeah baby, the Gman smoked em today.
  12. Got a funny feeling he wont be selling his new reels for a long time.
  13. That Powell does a great job at cranks and spinnerbaits Don't know about the Veritas, but I am more and more intrigued the more I hear about them. Ive been very impressed with them. The one I recommended Ive been flippin 3lb fish into the boat with it. Maybe not a good idea, but it has not been an issue. In a tournament those fish will be netted.
  14. I know both company owners Andre Moore(heard he sold) and Bub Tosh with Paycheck baits. Its the same body, with better paint and a different knocker I believe is the deal. I have so many Vixens that Ive yet to get the Repo Man.
  15. I prefer the Revo. As far as size goes, that is going to have an effect on line capacity. The Revo does me well from 8lb to 25lb fluoro.
  16. LOL, no problem. But I dont use a tackle bag, but there is room in the rod locker.
  17. Are you using the same line as well?
  18. Ahhhh hah, someone is aware. Vanish is great line if you use it for the right purpose. I will say, it is not real shock resistant. However it is great line for drop shotting and flick shake's, dart heads, any thing that a reel set is all you need. Its not my favorite line, but it is not a bad line at all. To the other poster, if your buddy's knots are not holding its because he is not tying it properly. Ive used it on shakey heads and drop shots for years with no problem at all. It can certainly be used on cranks and rip baits, but its not my choice.
  19. Id go with a Powell 703 glass CB rod and a 6'9ML Veritas spinning. Thats a $120 each avg.
  20. Man I dont know how you do it. I cant go more then a few days with out fishing. Im going friday and saturday, meaning I leave early tomorrow morning.
  21. More often then not its one of 5 brands. However I cant go without the other 20 brands, just dont use em as often. The diversity of fish species and waters around here means a wide variety of techniques and baits.
  22. The question asked for most productive. I considered this to be over the course of the year. Its hard to beat the sheer number of fish that can be caught on a drop shot over the course of the year. There are many other presentations that work well at different times, but the drop shot works all the time.
  23. For that light of jig, Id go with medium.
  24. The 702 is decent combo rod. I use the Powell 702 but I had a Dobyns as well they are very similar.
