  1. been going out on a private lake in the evening or at night. Catching mostly small ones, but my buddies have a hooked and lost a few large ones on wacky worms in the shallows at dusk or after dark. I Have gotten lots of bites lately on a medium depth crank baits( the ones that shake hard), really burning it through the water. usually between 5- 10 feet of water is where I get most the strikes.
  2. Good call, I will however reccomend wading in above the fall line for some good small mouth action later on in the summer. either at Motts landing or right in down town fredericksburg off fall hill ave. or riverside dr. Not huge Smallies but you should catch quite a few of them. Did catch a nice three or so pounder out of there a few years back.
  3. Yep, Go somewhere else. HAAHAHA I never have much luck, and have heard or read that the LMB populations are in decline or not increasing or something like that. Game and inland fisheries has some information on it, that may have been where I read it. Electrofishing rates and all that stuff.
  4. They were all right, just got to go across the river to go up or down from the launch. Could of swore atleast 300 yards up or down from the launch was full up with fishing lines
  5. I've never caught a bowfin, would be nice to add that to the list. Lunga is out of my distance range for Saturday. How is the fishing up there? I would imagine it wouldn't see too much pressure being on a base and all. I dont think we've met. Haven't been to abel since the fall before last. I would have been in a bright green (the avatar boat) V front boat if it was me??
  6. Gonna be going somewhere on Saturday. Was thinking either the NI res or Abel LaKe. I have been to Abel once in the late fall, and to Ni once last year in the mddile of summer. Neither produced to well. Where would you go?? thanks
  7. If I were you I would put in at little falls, or if you're willing to drive a little farther down route 3, hopyard landing. Went out at the city docks 2 weeks ago, lots of shore fishing going on, we caught one bass and about ten pounds of fishing line.
  8. electric taped grips, thats genius. I Always heard hats made of aluminum foil were the best!! All joking aside, there is no way electric taped handles are gonna keep you from getting struck by lightning.
  9. Just looked at your route. Dont know how early you plan on getting started, but you could end up spending a good part of the afternoon at the camping ground if you get started early. It shouldnt take long to get from there to 7 either. Just FYI
  10. My buddies and I did a long trip from 50 to 7 in one day. Great stretch of river. Some shallow spots that you may have to get out in drag, but that was in the middle of the summer. Along with the lures mentioned above, I would also like to suggest texas rigged senkos, and red/white roostertail inline spinners. I put the senko out behind the boat and just dragged it down the river. a few snags but also caught some fish doing that. to answer one of your questions , my buddy did catch a 24" catfish on a rooster tail. strangest thing I ever saw. Your son should have a blast, sounds like a great time
  11. Hit a private pond/lake on Sunday. caught about 20 some odd small ones. Nothing of any size really , largest maybe 2 lbs. Mainly using purple/blue senkos, wacky rigged, and tossing them right up to steep bank with a decent dropoff in the water then twitching them back to the boat. Got one on a pointer jerk bait, and one on a jig with a cayfish rage tail as a trailer. Was sitting off a point checking out the water(it was really clear) watching the smaller fish moving around and two bigguns swam past the boat out of the deep and into the shallower area. I do believe they are definitly on the move. Also tried using smaller square bill clackin rap red/black, 3" bluegill pointer jerk bait and swim baits. not one fish on those
  12. 2 dollar shipping on all orders of 49 dollars or more. promtion code is 32SHIP. It works cause I just used it. Good luck out there fellas, should be a great week to get out on the water
  13. pretty good size, got a dam about 30' max, around there. plenty of coves, some decent points, not to many under water drop offs, more bowl shaped than not
  14. Winds SSW at 19mph for King George
  15. Hitting a private lake this afternoon. Hopefully i will finally catch soemthing this year. Got four rigs setup, sone with a LC pointer JB, One with a shaky head, one with a wacky rig, one with a chatterbait. First change will probably be to a jig with craw trailer, second...... who knows, hopefully I wont have to change anything. Anyone got any lure suggestions(types)..
  16. Let us know how it went at Curits when you get a chance.
  17. Been out twice to no avail, very frustrating...
  18. I couldn't tell ya, I do Know the State record cam from there. here is what it says at the VDGIF website. Motts had the third highest catch rate of large bass of 19 district reservoirs sampled over the past few years. There are northern pike too! The current state record weighed 31 lbs. 4 oz. came out of Motts Run. Motts has an excellent white perch population, with fish up to a pound not uncommon. Anglers should fish for white perch in early spring, using bloodworms. Motts Run can be a difficult lake to fish. It was scraped clean of structure when formed and is steep-sided and deep. Anglers have to search out the underwater islands and beaver lodges.
  19. Ok , I went I saw, I got skunked!!! Got one nibble on a deep diving suspending crank. Tried silver buddies, jig and pig, hard jerk baits, shaky heads, even tried a wacky for a bit. Sunday just confirmed my dislike of that lake.
  20. Just FYI, the tournament is on the 26th (Sunday) this year. Last year was the 27th. The entry fee is 35 per team and it starts at 730. So you have to be there before that to get registered. this is from fredericksburg.com Feb. 26: Weekend Bassers Ice Breaker tournament at Motts Reservoir. Benefits annual Kids Fishing Derby. 7:30 a.m.–3 p.m. $35 entry per team. Second Ice Breaker on March 10. For details, call Ray Thomas 898-7542 or Dickie Musselman at 785-8087.
  21. Hi Wayne, any reason why you stopped? Just Curious
  22. I am going to be there with my Dad. I never have had much luck there though. Haven't fished it much either...Hope the weather is nice
  23. I've caught A bass across the river from the launch just down stream of the bridge on a chatterbait. Hooked into something pretty big on the same side under the bridge but it broke me off(that was back when I was using 4lb mono!?). Other than that I have caught nothin but Catfish. Good luck
  24. Did OK on friday, wasn't able to get out the rest of the weekend. Got rained on but no lightning. Probably caught 10 between me and my buddy from 4pm-7pm. Nothin over 2 lbs. though. the only bite we were getting was in the shallows with swim jigs, nice a slow dragging the bottom, was how I was fishing it. I have given up on the wacky, was working good in the spring and early summer but has fallen off for me ever since. No bites on a ghost minnow jerk bait, shad colored shallow crank (caught a few last weekend on it),chartruese and white spinner and nothing on the chatter bait (also caught a few last weekend on it).
  25. Was wondering if the bite should slow down or not? Gonna hit the water this afternoon. Possibly Saturday or Sunday.
