  1. There is a Phelps Pond kinda northeast of Indian Falls that I fished a long long time ago when we were building a new house for the landowner there. Loaded with small to medium sized bass at that time, but I do believe it is probably private property now as it was then.
  2. I have a '98 481VS with a 150 Johnson FastStrike. Basically the same boat except mine is a single console and basically the same motor as well. I have owned mine for just about 13 years now and I am the second owner. Very solid boat and no real complaints with it. Perfect size for big water or small. I have been out on Erie in 6 footers and it is small enough to get in between docks or up smaller creeks for tight small water fishing. Pretty snappy out of the hole with a 4 blade prop. Ranger customer service/parts department is the best.
  3. Both here as well. Kinda got away from traditional nose hooking that you see most of the time, and went with threading the hook on the nose more. Threading on maybe a 1/4" to 3/8". Don't notice any difference in bites or hook-ups, but further decreases line twist for me.
  4. Been there, done that, will do it again I'm sure. I got skunked on one of the three days of the Eastern Divisionals as a boater several years back on the Connecticut River. Not only do you let yourself down, you let your whole team down!
  5. I remember the talk of overturning that aspect of it a year and a half ago, but I guess I missed the fact that it actually happened. It's cozy in my cave!! lol
  6. It was? I thought I was following things fairly closely but I suppose I could have missed that.
  7. I have always been a Pop-R fan, and when I switched over to the Zell Pop I started having even more success. My main retrieve is a very subtle constant walk. The last few years I have been throwing it on straight 30lb braid.
  8. I will pour several blanks before I start putting a hook in. This heats up the mold faster than anything. I don't start pouring as soon as the lead is melted. It is still heating up and I will wait another 20+ minutes before pouring. Softer lead pours easier and fills tricky molds better. I have a stash of hard lead that I use for the easier to pour molds. Hard lead will have a duller finish to it, and soft lead will have more of a shine. I got into pouring my own heads because I dragged A LOT of tubes for smallmouth. When you drag a lot, you loose a lot, sometime 40 or more a day. Pouring these greatly saved me money and more than paid for my whole set-up. Dropshot weights are like that now. Other molds I have not recouped my money on, but over time I might.
  9. 7' mh/F with 50lb braid for me. 9 times out of 10 when they are hitting it, they are hitting it like they mean it. I don't like to give them an inch, and often times they hook themselves.
  10. Another shot from Honeoye. Not sure what kind of baits you would need for that.
  11. No idea about boating status, but this was a friend of ours cottage just north of Pickerel Point Sunday afternoon. The basement wall on the cottage to the right caved in they said. https://youtu.be/gQ9d4v184Gk
  12. Get a job while you can, there are less of them every day.
  13. I was always a heavy mono (15-20lb) guy for all my spook and popper fishing................until I tried braid. That was about 4 years ago, and still using the braid. I never once felt like braid was hurting anything as far as not getting the hook ups, or having hooks pull out. I like a 6'6" M/F. Anything longer and my rod tip is always slapping the water while working the baits. Oddly, I am nearly 100% switched over to braid for all my treble hook presentations, but still can't stand it for single hook bottom bouncing baits. Whatever's comfortable.
  14. This was going to be my reply as well, much like jigging spoons and smallmouth. The bigger they are, the harder they clamp down on the bait.
  15. I beg to differ, about threw me out of the boat the first time you went by me yesterday Should be good tomorrow, everything in line for a banner day. Plus no crowd.
  16. The carrier didn't clean out from under their seats as often as they should have.
  17. I guess the lake saw a little rain after we left. Boating advisory issued for Silver Lake PERRY — The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department has issued a boating advisory and ‘‘no wake zone’’ for all of Silver Lake, effective as of 11 a.m. Monday, June 15. No unnecessary boating is advised. Silver Lake is not closed, however, a ‘‘no wake zone’’ for the entire lake is in effect. Weekend rains and flooding has caused the lake to rise several inches, dangerously covering docks, damaging moored boats and placing large pieces of debris on the lake. The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Park Police marine units have increased patrols monitoring the lake. It is anticipated this advisory and ‘‘no wake zone’’ will be in effect for approximately three days.
  18. Pretty much experienced the same thing today. Bite was pretty good early on, then fizzled out to nothing by mid to late morning. Last fish was a 4-1 and figured that was going to be it, and it was. lol Pretty happy just to catch a bunch of fish seeing I have not been on the water in nearly five weeks now.
  19. So are you saying it runs like a pig? lol
  20. Anchors are required to have on board in many states.
  21. One of my early Ebay transactions many years ago I sold a random lot of Berkley Power Baits to a lady in Florida. She got the package and emailed a complaint to me stating she received a package containing skin care products and not the worms. Hmmmm, odd. I had her describe the packaging to me and it was indeed the box I sent the worms in, no doubt about it. I obviously refunded the money and the shipping to ship it back to me. I ended up selling the skin care products for many times what I had originally sold the worms for. lol Postmaster here at the time said what likely happened was a couple packages busted open at the plant and without any kind of packing list, they shoved contents back in the boxes (wrongly) and away they went.
  22. This has been my observation as well. Normally for me it's getting a little over anxious with deep diving cranks using 30 lb. If I back off on my cast, and let the rod do the work, the results are much better.
  23. I prefer straight 50lb braid.
  24. My frog rod is a 6'6" MH/F
  25. The only I will add is to look to see who might be coming up on the side of you as you make that turn. Was in a buddies boat when another boat ran up on us (and hit us!) as we were turning/veering at speed. No fault of anyone really. We should have looked and they shouldn't have been following so close not being able to react to what we did. Been paranoid about that ever since.
