  1. Sounds to me they may have had the drift sock off the transom, a big no-no on the big water. I always have mine off the side. It is amazing what a small bassboat can roll up and over that way. I have been out in 6-8 footers, and although it is tough to move from spot to spot, fishing in it ain't too bad.
  2. The best tournament I ever had on Champlain I was fishing around Butler Island. Drag tubes on weedlines for smallmouth, or dropshot from 15-35 feet off weedlines if wind is too calm to drift. You won't have to go far to find fish.
  3. lol For $10 an inch or whatever they get now, that's a replica I could afford.
  4. It's obvious that I must do something different. I tie the improved clinch, mainly because it's the ONLY KNOT I KNOW HOW TO TIE!!! lol Yeah, I've broke off a few fish over the years, but I fish zebra mussel infested waters and I see guys break off the same number of fish on "better" lines too. I can anchor my boat with 8 pound Vanish, and have moved the boat against a decent chop after getting hung on the bottom. I have never seen a reason to change. This picture always seems to surface also, caught on 4 pound Vanish. The fish spooled me, I chased it down with the trolling motor on high for 45 minutes, and it took me into 4 feet of heavy weeds twice as well as out to 30+ feet three times. I won't recommend the line to anyone, but it's the only line I'll use in the foreseeable future, or at least until I get one of those infamous bad spools.
  5. Doesn't anyone else use needlenose pliers to grab the line once in the reel? Seems to make quick work of it for me.
  6. Not recommended without a load on the motor.
  7. I've had that one for a couple years and it is very nice.
  8. It's a 30 second phone call John. lol I've called in 4 or 5 times now. Maybe you should trying calling to Customs. Immigration might be a whole different animal.
  9. You have to really want it. Once that is established, the rest will fall into place. It ain't easy and keep yourself busy.
  10. 1. The mouth of the river is best when the lake upwells and the river water is significantly warmer than the lake water. This can happen at any time throughout the year. 2. North is miserable for any craft at the mouth. The wind pushes right into the current and piles the waves. 3. I like 1/2 ounce DS weights and 3/8ths tubes right there.
  11. If anyone has experience sight fishing with plastics while ice fishing, you will know when fish are finicky they will only suck in the tail of the bait, or even just nudge it not committing at all. Shortening the worm will put the hook that much closer to the fishes mouth, and hopefully in it. I always go with a little longer leader on the Great Lakes system, and mainly to stay well above the endless cloud of gobies that live on the bottom. Serves two purposes. First, the gobies don't swim up and grab the bait constantly. Second, the fish can see it from a greater distance with it a bit higher. 2 1/2 feet is usually just about right. I don't know anything about going lighter on the weight, cause I don't do that. In 30-40+ feet of water I want to send that thing down there to arches I see on the graph as fast as possible, whether in current or not.
  12. I think you'll find that about 90% or more frog throwers use a casting rig.
  13. I had a pretty bad case that started about this time last year and went clear into the late fall. The motion of pitching a heavier bait out would bring me to my knees, and skipping a Senko? Forget about it, it wasn't happening. I learned to nurse it as best as I could while fishing. Oddly, working a drywall knife (my primary job) didn't bother it too much. Over the winter it did go away and so far this year it has not returned.................in that arm. I did have a short bout a month ago with my other arm, but that was from delivering mail (my secondary job) and the constant opening and closing of the boxes at weird angles. I started doing things a little different and that cleared up as well. A buddy of mine has it pretty bad. Has had the shots and it helps for a few weeks but comes right back.
  14. No. Hockey, yes. Football, no.
  15. If anyone is looking for o-rings, I found this to be a good source. http://www.oringsandmore.com/nsf-b70-orings-size-010-price-for-100-pcs/

  18. Generally speaking, I don't usually buy anything unless I am getting a better than average deal, at least for the larger purchases from rods/reels and greater. So I don't think of it as how much I spent, but rather how much I saved.
  19. No, I use both for different situations. For open water structure "in the cone" fishing a casting reel is not optimum for dropping line straight down at a high rate of speed.
  20. Personally I have never heard one scream in pain.
