  1. Thanks everyone for the great suggestions....
  2. I'm looking to spend no more than $150 on a spinnerbait rod. I'm a little confused as to what the desired setup is. I've heard you want something close to a crankbait rod (maybe even fiberglass) to prevent from jerking the lure out of the fish's mouth. I've also heard graphite with a fast tip. Seems to be a lot of differing opinions out there. I usually throw 3/8 or 1/2 spinnerbaits. Here are the ones I'm considering but I'm open to any suggestions.... 6'6" Team Daiwa S Crankbait/Spinnerbait rod. 6'6" St. Croix Premier Medium Action 1/4-3/4 oz 6'8" Team All Star IM 10 6'6" Falcon Lowrider LFC-4-166 or LFC 6 166 Browning Citori 6'6" Medium or 6'10" medium heavy. BPS Extreme Woo Davies Spinnerbait Rod 6'6" medium or Medium heavy Thank you in advance for your time!
  3. Something that happened 3 times today.......I broke 20 pound braid above the weight. I would feel..... tap, tap, weight......... set the hook.....only to see slack line and no more lure. Each time I was pretty sure there was a fish on the other end. Any idea why this is happening? Is it actually a fish taking the lure and heading for structure but when I set the hook the line rubs up against a rock and breaks? I couldn't figure it out. Should I try a different type of line (other than braid), a different brand of line or should I go up in lbs to a 30, 40, etc.? Also, anyone use high vis line like Fireline so that they can visually detect strikes easier? PS - great posts, I've learned a lot already. I think I'm setting the hook too hard vs. a sweeping motion.
  4. I'm going to hear it for this one, but since you asked.... http://www.charterworld.com/?sub=yacht-charter&charter=swan--paradis-874 and http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/photos/04/0229maricha/1.JPG and http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/photos/04/Tiara/ and http://www.vikingyachts.com/models/65c/65c_main.asp and http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/photos/04/f40worlds/d1/ and http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/photos/05/m24worlds/ and http://www.xpressboats.com/series/xclusive/le.html and I'm sure there are others....
  5. Looking at building a deck for my Jon Boat. Where can I find "marine plywood" or whatever wood is recomended for this type of construction? Thanks, Jeff
  6. Thanks for all the help. I ended up buying a Motorguide Pro 54lb on sale for $350. The Minn Kota 40 was $300. While I personally like the feel and durability of the Minn Kota better, I just couldn't pass up the extra hp for $50 extra. BTW - If anyone is interested in a 24 volt motor, BPS has the Minn Kota All Terrain 65 for $399. I just didn't want to be dancing around another battery in a jon boat. Thanks!
  7. Buying a new bow mount trolling motor for my 14 ft John Boat. Which of the following should I buy (and why if you have time). Motorguide Pro Series 46 lb thrust for $299 Minn Kota Edge 40 lb thrust for $319. Thanks.....
  8. Those of you who use the cable steer systems, does your particular model have a "constant on" feature? I feel that this would reduce the amount of work necessary to keep the motor on and the boat moving as I would not have to have my foot on the controller all the time. Thanks for all the comments.
  9. .........for a trolling motor and why? Cable steer? Digital steer? Remote? Wireless foot control? Do you prefer the models with the "Constant on" option?
  10. I've got a 14 ft Jon Boat. I fish a lot of small lakes around the Atlanta area that do not allow gas motors so I've got a bow mount 28lb thrust (old mercury R28) and a Motor Guide 48lb thrust transom mount motor. I'm looking for more power. The old Mercury R28 operates fine but I'm wondering if I can get more power from something like a 50 lb thrust bow mount model. I particularly like the ones that would allow me to operate the bow motor from the rear of the boat wirelessly, remotely or with a long foot control cable (see Motor Guide Wireless). http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=74646&hvarTarget=search&hvarAID=&cmCat=3336280 Am I going to realize noticable increases in speed by upgrading my bow mount trolling motor by about 25 or 30 lbs of thrust? Also, does anybody have experience with these somewhat "non-traditional" methods of controlling a bow mount motor? I like the idea of being able to turn it on without holding a button down and control it without rocking my foot back and forth. Any and all thoughts are appreciated. Thanks, Jeff
