^^ Yep, thats how I was catching them the other day. It would feel like a bite coming across the school and fish and when I went to set the hook and reel them in they would be hooked in the back or tail. I released all them but now I should have kept some for bait.
What shad are you allowed to keep. I know gizzard is mainly used for catfish bait so you can keep those. American shad I don't believe you can keep but hickory is fair game? Is this correct?
Tyler - Thanks for the invite. I will most likely be unable to make it Sunday, pending the time. How is the current where you guys put in. I have a canoe and Gheenoe and was wondering if it will be a physical pain to put that in rather than fish from the bank.
Anyone heading out there this weekend? I have never fished for shad but am interested in learning some different techniques as I try for them this year.
Hit the southlake pond about 5:20 and fished until dark. I caught one bass, cant get the picture uploaded but he was the only one. Probably 2 lbs.
Another guy was there catching right many crappie from this one spot. He stayed after dark and I believe was keeping his for a meal.
Sam - I've never fished at the pond behind Martins Grocery Store. Maybe that will be the next spot I try. I live close to Patriots landing and work in Midlothian. I want to try those ponds out there but I am not sure if the public is allowed.
Thanks guys for the warm welcome.
Sam, today on my lunch break I fished at the pond on Lucks Lane near St. Francis, saw plenty of bream but did not catch any bass.
After work its Southlake pond. I will report back upon fishing there.
I have done right much reading on this site the last month or so and finally decided to join. Good information already obtained but ready to learn even more.
I fish the James River right often and Chickahominy river runoffs, more like the swamp sections in Henrico. Tommorrow I plan to fish the pond near my work on Southlake Blvd.
Glad to join Bass Resource!
