Are you using the super fluke? I am in SC and we fish flukes almost year-round here. If you are using the super fluke, I think I can help.

I suspect you have a group 24 series cranking battery. If you do end up buying another battery, look at the Interstate 24mxhd. I have a DFI motor which requires more power plus I am running a ton of electronics. This thing has never let me down. It is still a group 24 but it has quite a bit more power. The other option is to step up to a 27 series for the same reason. You can never have too much battery power. Dead batteries have ruined days on the water for all of us.

If you are looking for more power, you need to step up to a 24v or a 36v system. I have a 36V motorguide with three batteries. That thing is an animal and after having the 36v tm, I am never going back to anything smaller. For that matter, I wish someone would make a 36V / 48V TM. Maybe the TM could be 36V all the time with a 48V bypass when you needed a little extra juice. Check into the 24V systems. It will be well worth the money.

Steve, Which popper are you refering to? Was that the berkley frenzy popper?

The frenzy walker does not have enough tail weight. If you ever look at a walking topwater lure that is really fat and holds its diameter from the head towards the tail, and then gets skinny all the sudden, that lure is not going to walk easy. You may say, well the sammy is streamlined and it is. The difference is that the sammy's taper is constant and they have a good place in the lure for tail weight. If you ever look at a sammy at rest, the bait sits tail down and only about an inch of the lure is actually above the water. The frenzy walker sits dead level in the water. That is not a killer but you can tell it does not have enough weight in the tail. I have played with this enough lately to find the necessary amount to add in order to get the bait to walk easier. Also the colors are terrible. We custom painted a couple but the stupid thing still won't hardly get any bites.

The trailer is not out of alignment. The tires are just crap. The wear is even on all four tires. The tires are simply so soft that they wear out quickly. I get a new boat every few years and I always have this issue. I don't believe that ST tires are made to last mileage wise like car tires. I am going to make the switch and see if it helps.

We have tried the soft plastic paints from Lurecraft. They do work. They will adhere to soft plastic lures. However, you can not paint over that stuff either. We thought if we could get any coating over the soft plastic, then we could come back and paint the lures chrome / silver. That did not work. We could not find a paint that would setup over the lurecraft soft plastic paints. Maybe we could mix silver with their clear and then spray it. That might work but I think coating over the lure with clear soft plastic is the answer.

I have had all kinds of trailer tires. The goodyear marathons are way over-rated. I have a 10 month old boat with carlisle's now and they are worn out. The trailer is a dual axle and they are not wearing in spots. The wear is even and they are just about gone. The truth of the matter is that "ST" tires (trailer tires) are fine in most situations. Guys that pull their boats alot will not get great life out of trailer tires. They will last 10,000 miles or less. If the tires on your truck went 10,000 miles, you would all be screaming. My next set is going to be michelin car tires rated for 80,000 miles. Load is not an issue switching between ST and car tires for boats. I am tired of buying four new ones each year. Maybe the car tires will last longer.

I am thinking of walking baits like the lucky craft sammy. I know that berkley made a frenzy walker for a while but it is a terrible lure. I am wondering if berkley has ever made any other walking topwater lures. We are fishing a berkley baits only tournament and discontinued lures are OK. I just don't know the complete history of berkley lures.

Nate, you touched on something that I have been trying to do for a while. We need some chrome or bright silver zoom super flukes. We have tried just about everything to accomplish this with no luck. Coating the lures with clear plastic is a great solution. Do you think your friends would be willing to produce the lures we need. We would pay them for the service, of course. Thanks.
