  1. I am cranking 95% of the time and it is always on 30 pound braid. I have found that the line diameter of 30 gets crankbaits to their advertised depth. To answer your question, I wrap electrical tap around my mono backer to keep from digging in and to not compromise my line strength if I overcast . That way digging into the mono is not a problem but there is always the problem of the braid digging into it's self. I have been cranking on straight braid for 4 years and have not had any problem with hooks pulling out like a lot of people have. Just make your hookset more of a tug and reel. to me, sensitivity of braid is its biggest plus. I can tell if a blade of grass is on my lure and give it a yank to clear the hooks and not waste a caste
  2. wakebaits. I throw into 1 inch of water in the back of coves with the rod up to make it topwater then lower the rod to make it dive deeper as it gets into deeper water

  4. I take about 1/8 inch off of all my strike king 4 crankbaits to make them run 4-8 feet. They are advertised to run 5-9 but they usually run 10 or deeper about the same as a 5 series. That's gives me size 4s; 2-5ft, size 4; 4-8ft, size 5; 7-11 feet, 5xd; 10-15 ft. I lay a quarter on the bill and guess about 1/8 and mark it. I have probably done 10 and have never had any trouble truing any of them.
  5. Anyone have any experience with the manns 30+? I have seen mixed reviews on them, most saying they don't reach 30 but I really don't need them to. I was looking at these opposed to the strike king 10xd since these are lighter and my rods can throw them. They are also cheaper which is a plus.
  6. I use pliers and squeeze the wires closed to make an eye. I then bend the spinner side wire down a little to make it run correctly again. Never had a bit of problem even when pulling the boat after getting hung up.
  7. Did you put it on from the bottom?
  8. Thanks for the replys. I didn't think about the taper going all of the way to the butt. If I do anything it will be the splitting a cork ring that was mentioned. I looked at the new Mojo glass cranking stick yesterday and the grip was longer on it. I don't know if it is because the rod is longer or if they had feedback about the problem and made a running change.
  9. Hey all, I recently bought a St. Croix Mojo cranking rod and the cork on the handle is a little too short for my liking. My lower palm and pinky finger slide off the grip on long casts and it feels like I'm about to throw the rod. I know that grips are pretty cheap at the rodbuilding sites but don't know how big of a job it is to change them or what size I would need for my rod. I actually like the foam grips on the Garcias and carbonlites better than cork. My rod is a St. Croix SCII 7 foot MH, Mod action Any insite to on should I bother or grip sizes would be appreciated. If I could regrip it for the same lose that I would take selling it, I would rather grip it and give it a chance to see if I like it. Thanks, Steve
