  1. Welcome!
  2. Tournaments is the only gambling I do. I don't gamble on it otherwise.
  3. Went and did something different this weekend, fished the river from my kayak and from an island I pedaled to. I started at the ramp with crawlers on the bottom trying to catch some bait for bigger catfish since I didn't bring any bait (dumb move). One of the rods started dancing immediately and I reeled in one of the smallest flatheads I've ever seen. I pedaled to a water outflow and started fishing a grub hoping for a white bass. Hooked a couple big fish that pulled off before landing a little 2-3 pound wiper. Not what I wanted to use for bait but completely legal and I needed something so it got kept to hopefully be turned into a big catfish. I had a bait rod out on the bottom that I tried to reel in because my kayak was drifting, but there was another little flathead on there. I broke off my grub so I tried a jig and crawler. I hooked a big fish that pulled hard and thought I saw a catfish, but it turned out to be about an 8lb grass carp. Pretty crazy to catch one like that, even crazier was I did it again the very next cast! Nothing else was happening there so I pedaled to the island I wanted to fish. Wasn't long before I had my first run and landed a nice blue cat. I was literally releasing this fish after this picture when another reel took off and I beached a big channel cat. Then the turtles showed up. My rods were dancing nonstop with these stupid things. I did manage to catch a couple more decent channel catfish but it was 100* outside and my phone was so hot the camera wouldn't open. I stopped at the outflow on the way back in and made a few cast with a grub. I hooked another big fish and thought it was going to be a catfish or big wiper, turned out to be a common carp that inhaled my grub!

  6. One of the most ridiculous videos I've ever had the displeasure of watching when he put it out. I unfollowed his channel after he posted this junk. It's ironic considering how much DD fishes a wacky rig, which fish swallow at a much higher rate than a Ned rig IMO.
  7. I look to see if the pigtail on the vine directly across from the one I'm going to pick is dried out of not. Once they're dried, the fruit is ripe and ready. We grow our own and it's pretty much ruined me on buying store bought melons.
  8. I find a ton of baits and sell them for cheap. I'll clean the baits up, but I'm not replacing hooks on them. A lot of guys will want to put their preferred hooks on them anyways, so I don't see the reason to bother with putting hooks on, just for them to take off. Obviously, things like that are figured into pricing.
  9. We're only allowed 2 hooks in Kansas. I always do a hook in the middle with the biggest bait and a little different color or a different colored head, something to attract their attention. The other outside bait is just a crapshoot.
  10. Zoom Z Drop, Green Pumpkin
  11. Both could have been much heavier but I'm not sure if they ever really get very fat in that lake. Only the second time I've ever fished it, so don't know much about it. It did have shad though, so they should get a little fatter later in the year.
  12. Rage gets my vote. The Zoom only works for me as a jig trailer and the Rage does that just as well.
  13. I've had a little more success than normal on cranks this year during the warmer months, but that isn't saying much. I go months without taking a cranking rod out of the box, and that's just fine with me.
  14. Man, there's a great gif that I can't use here, basically sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe not so good.
  15. Most all the lakes around here can provide good numbers, it's the bigger fish that have been harder to find lately. I did finally get a couple big ones Sunday though. Almost all my fishing is out of a kayak anymore.
  16. Heights, I can't even look up at tall buildings without my legs getting wobbly. Bears, they eat their prey alive and like to hunt around the water. Something that big shouldn't be able to be that fast and quiet either.
  17. It's a different feeling when you're putting your life on the line with another person. You go through so much with those people. I occasionally see people from my past department and the joy it brings getting to see just that they're alive and well is pretty amazing.
  18. Looks like a good list to me. I also enjoy Korn, Godsmack, Disturbed, Stoned Sour, Chevelle, several others.
  19. That's a huge longnose. I caught my rod and reel PB on a 4" chartreuse grub. Next to a 6' 8" rod and 30 sized reel for size reference. Tried to weigh her because I think it might have beat the state record, but instead she thanked me by biting the heck out of me and flopping back into the water.
  20. Catch a couple bluegill, cut them into quarter sized chunks, put on a #1 kahle hook, cast into the blue stuff and wait, channel cats will come. I don't use any leaders, swivels, weights, bobbers, nothing. Put it on a spinning reel with 10-20lb braid and give it a little toss out there and leave your bail open if using more than 1 reel. I was cheating in this video, going to where their food is handed to them, but it's the same thing in a regular lake scenario, just a little more waiting usually involved.
  21. IMO, if I'm fishing braid on a baitcaster, then what I'm doing doesn't require a leader.
