  1. They were eating the cheap little aliex blades real good Saturday. I can't hardly loose these things since they only cost $1, but I know if I spent the money on a nice one, it would be gone as soon as it touched the bottom 😂
  2. I pulled 2 Berkley Choppos (90 and 130 size, both white), a baby bass colored 1/4oz rattle trap, a cheap white and blue popper, and a KO Megabass jerkbait all out of the same tree Saturday. Forgot to take a picture of them and gave them all to my buddy though since we were in his boat. Thought it was weird to find all that in one tree and then nothing else.
  3. I have several glides I "chop", but I don't know if any of the baits you listed will work. The KGB original and Spro version both do it very well, and so does the Clutch Glide.
  4. It's the opposite for me. I catch most of my fish hopping it on the bottom like a jig. If I swim it, never seems to get bit.
  5. It's always one of my best baits in winter. 10lb braid to 8lb leader with a 1/16oz head #1 size hook. I like the TRD and Big TRD both. Some days they show a lot of preference to the Big TRD over the regular TRD for some reason.
  6. Ned rigs and lightly weighted tubes work well in winter.
  7. Just selling a hot name at that point imo. When you're fishing something like that, it's just the old school jigworm with a new name. Ned rig fishing isn't just the bait, it's the tackle and presentation/s as well. None of the heavy duty "Ned Jigging", falls into that category.
  8. Suspending jerkbaits, lipless cranks, flatside cranks, Neds, shakyheads, blade baits, big Colorado bladed spinnerbaits.
  9. We got a lot of snow Saturday/Sunday to really cool the water, plus several days in a row with lows in the teens and highs barely above freezing. Most of the ponds were already froze over today.
  10. It's hard for me to find areas I can fish them, but I feel like I've figured them out. I was doing way too much with them. I think I do better fishing them on spinning gear also. I showed my buddy how to fish one and he caught his first couple blade fish also.
  11. Water was 42*. Lake will likely be froze over by next weekend 🤦
  12. Spent a day on the water with my buddy Jon on Saturday. Temps started in the 20s and barely broke freezing by quitting time when the snow really started. Fighting the ice ws annoying, but we were fighting so many fish it was easy to ignore. Over 50 fish between us on jerkbaits, Neds, and blades mostly. Jon's fish were camera shy 😅
  13. Nope, just raining all day and 41* outside. We wore them out though. Had a bunch of fun. No, although it would have been a completely legal bait in Kansas. They were from different days. The bluecat ate half a quillback I caught in my thrownet.
  14. I think I've forgotten how to catch a bass, at least bigger ones. Had several good bites but kept losing them for some reason or another. Probably caught 30 but this one was by far the largest. I've been having plenty of fun chasing much bigger fish on the river though.
  15. 5.5-6, short and fat with a small head. Very healthy fish but doesn't look like it has the length to be much bigger than 6.
  16. Both our state records for blues and flatheads are over 100lbs, including the world record flathead of 123lbs. That little 35 pounder doesn't even raise an eyebrow from the serious catfishermen here.
  17. The Kansas is a really shallow river with random deep holes through this area. It would normally be under water, but only a couple feet deep. The hole we were fishing was 23' deep though.
  18. Since our trip last week, Tony hasn't been able to stop talking about fishing the river. So we decided to give it another go this week before it gets really cold and it's not an option anymore. We rolled into our first spot and didn't even have the rods all out before Tony had a healthy little blue on the bank, and while we were getting ready to take pictures of that fish, the rod he'd just caught it on and recasted, slowly loaded up again, this time with a flathead. It wasn't 5 minutes later, the same rod was bending and shaking again, and Tony had another blue on the bank. Then the rain and cold front showed up. I really thought that would make them bite but it didn't at this spot. I had one rod that kept twitching and shaking but never would take off. When I reeled it in to move spots, it felt like I snagged a stick, but it turned out to be a little dinosaur. I guess he'd just been down there mouthing that piece of white bass, trying to get it down. I hadn't covered much water in this area and part of the plan was to not die in one area if it wasn't happening, so we moved around the corner to an outside bend that I always mark a lot of fish. Cast a rod and turned around to grab the next and Tony pointed and grunted, I must have hit the fish on the head. Had one other good run at that spot that I didn't hook up with, so further down the river we went to another deep hole. Just like the first two spots, didn't even get all the rods out before a fish folded a rod over. This one had a tag in it (can kind of see the orange tag in it's back). Found out it was tagged in 2019 and I was the first person to have caught it. Got the rest of the rods out, the last of which I put down the sandbar a ways. When I got back to the kayaks and looked back at it, the line was completely slack, like someone had cut the line. Ran over and grabbed it, and landed another nice blue. There was a bunch of fish jumping, so I cast a little Kastmaster some and caught the biggest goldeye I've ever seen. As we were talking about it probably being about time to go, one of my rods folded again, and this time it peeling drag in the process. The fish pulled and shook with much more authority and really fought great for the cold water. Wasn't huge by any means, but sure was a great way to wrap up the day. Except it wasn't, because this one bit before I could get all the rods reeled in. Really couldn't have asked for a much better day on the river.
  19. Nope, I said it was a flathead before I even set the hook. There is no mistaking the bite of a big flathead on a jig. I actually caught a 21lb flathead on a Ned rig the next day 😅
  20. They seem very similar to Mustad to me, but a little more refined.
  21. Check with your state but in a lot of cases, those hours exclude actually using the boat ramp. It's just intended to prevent loitering at the boat ramps.
  22. I haven't compared those exact hooks, but I've used several Victory hooks for a couple years now and really like them. Very good quality hook.
  23. My best blades have been the cheap from the overseas sites. I usually buy several at a time since shipping times are usually pretty long. I've had good luck with them and they're usually around $1 each. Too many snags where I fish to spend the money they want for most of them.
  24. The Daiwa CC80 and Daiwa Revros are my budget reels of choice.
  25. I use 15/17 for football jigs. Not using them in heavy cover so even a 10lb fish is easy to handle on line that size. I landed my PB flathead (68lbs), on 15lb Tatsu, it'll handle a DD bass with ease.
