  1. Any of those would be good options. I like Seaguar and I've really been liking the P-line C21. There are lots of guys that like braid for a main line and then use fluoro leader.
  2. Welcome to the forum! Generally light lines and small finesse baits will catch you fish day in and day out in deep clear lakes. Check out the local fishing forums under the fishing forums drop bar at the top of the page and check out the Central page. There's actually a couple topics in that about Greers Ferry right now.
  3. Friend of mine has a M/L Eyecon spinning rod that he fishes grubs and small crankbaits with and likes it really well. Don't see why it wouldn't work for you.
  4. Bow and arrow. If there is much grass it's just short of impossible to actually get them to bite. If you are just trying to remove them I'd go the bowfishing route or snag them with a large treble hook. If you're really set on catching them a flyrod is about the best way I know of. I've done pretty well with flies that look like cotton seeds, moss balls, or mulberries. Wait until they are feeding on the surface and then try to make a quiet cast well in front of them and move the fly as little as possible. I've heard of people catching them on grape tomatoes, nightcrawlers, corn, and I've caught one on a grasshopper. Be ready for a long wait, they are not an easy fish to catch on rod and reel.
  5. This forum is full of lots of very helpful people that will give you any information they can. Most of us try not to give information on equipment that we haven't personally used. I have personally never even picked up any of the reels you listed, therefore I'm not exactly qualified to make a suggestion. As far as your second post, you catch more flies with honey, just saying.
  6. I've got 2 of them now, 1 spinning and 1 casting, and I really like both of them. I like the feel of the handle and I like the feel of it. As far as I can tell my guides are all lined up but my vision isn't great and it's hard to tell with those tiny guides on the casting model. The 6' 10" ML spinning rod is quickly becoming my favorite option for throwing smaller jerkbaits. It has a soft tip that fires them out there and keeps fish stuck but has the backbone to bury the hooks and move big fish. The casting rod I got for jigs and pitching. Haven't gotten to fish it a lot but it feels really nice from what little I have used it.
  7. I have one of the Pfluegar Supreme MGX's and really like it. It's very light, casts really well, and so far I haven't had any problems with it binding after extended use. The Shimano Symetre is another great reel for that price but every one I've ever had started to bind after extended use or during steady rain. Pretty much any spinning reel you get around the $100 range will do just fine though.
  8. Should be good little finesse cranks or clear water baits it sounds like. Bandits are tough to beat for the price.
  9. Thanks guys! I knew it had to be something simple because I didn't hardly do anything to it to cause the play in it that I could think of. The spring is seated on top of the bearing so I'll try tightening the tension cap down a little and see if that does it. If not I'll look into the spacer and see if I lost that thing somewhere.
  10. Last week I took the two bearings out of one of my Curado E7s that are on each end of the spool. So I took the one out of the sideplate by the pins and then took the tension knob and spring out from next to the reel handle. I soaked the bearings overnight, lubed them and put them back in the next morning. Now when I cast it seems like the spool will almost slide inside the frame on the right (reel handle) side and makes kind of a rattling/clacking noise. I know that everything went back into the reel the same but the only thing I could think of is if the bearings aren't the exact same size and now the spool is trying to go towards the path of least resistance and move in towards the reel frame. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  11. The smallies and walleye around here love the 97 and 112 in American shad and pearl ayu.
  12. Like roadwarrior said, why limit yourself? So many companies make good baits in so many good colors. If I was going to pick one of those 3 it would be the Havoc bottom hopper but it's far from my favorite shakeyhead worm.
  13. Me and Wachati (Peter) fished La Cygne yesterday. Everything we had both seen said windy in the morning and then calming down by about 8am. We got there at about 7:15 and it was windy so we hit the point right across the cove from the ramp. I caught a small one on a jerkbait and then a little bigger one on a Little John. Right when I got mine in the boat Peter hooked a fish on a swimbait, got it to the boat, and it popped off just when it got to the surface. It was probably 5-6 pounds. For the next several hours we fished anywhere we could stay out of the wind. I missed a couple on a shakeyhead and caught a couple tiny white bass on crankbaits. By 1 we still hadn't caught another fish so I netted some shad and we went back to the outlet. Even with live shad I think we only caught 5 or 6 more bass. The biggest of the day was just shy of 4 pounds. 2012 bass count-81
  14. I got my F-150 with 29k miles on it with an extended warranty for 20k. If you don't have to have 4x4 you can get one with low mileage for less than 15k if you shop around. If you can deal with a standard cab you could probably find one for even less.

    Wow

Understandable, sometimes you just have to vent to anyone that will listen. Good thing is you know you have a bunch of good guys here that will listen to you
  16. Good looking truck! Same year and mileage as my F-150 and I have no problem pulling any bass boat so you shouldn't either.

    Wow

Sucks man. Sometimes you're the bat, sometimes you're the ball. Just got to keep your head down and keep pushing through. BTW, if you do decide to hit something hard over and over make sure it's something that is supposed to be hit over and over again. Walls break knuckles and then you're worse off than you started, trust me
  18. You might check out a waterproof bag instead. I have a waterproof bag that I bought at Wal Mart in the camping section for about $10. The one I have I got for floating streams for smallmouth to carry gear that needs to stay dry like lunches, towels, wallets, phones, ect. I got a large one bug they have some smaller ones if you're trying to keep it compact.
  19. That would be awesome to see! I'll have to check into it because I already have the day off. Thanks for the heads up!
  20. It's pretty good line but you should look into the new P-line C21. It's $4.99 for a 300 yard spool, handles well, and is very abrasion resistant. I've got a spinning rod rigged with 8lb and a jig rod with 17lb. Even in the colder weather and with lighter baits on the spinning reel it fishes great. I haven't fished a jig a lot but from what I have the stuff fishes great and is very strong.
  21. Bass eat shad colored cranks in bodies of water with no shad, they eat salamanders and worm imitators but probably rarely see a real one in most bodies of water. If it looks like food and like it would be easy to catch, chances are some bass are going to eat it.
  22. I thought we were going to get more around the KC area but really just got a little more than a dusting. Still it only made it to 19 degrees today and ponds are freezing fast, looks like it really might be here now.
  23. I'm another guy that likes the VMC's. Great value hooks, $6.99 for a 25 pack at my local Cabela's. Mustad Triple Grip are good hooks also as are Gamakatsu.
  24. Well it's finally happening, it's snowing out here. Watching it on the cameras outside while I'm at work. The pond in front of the building isn't frozen yet but it isn't supposed to make it over 30 tomorrow so I bet it is by the time I get to work tomorrow. It was a good run, just hate to think that it's over and the only fishing I'll be able to do is on my day off if I go to the powerplant lakes
  25. Looks like an old pond that is connected to the lake, the pond dam would be the the shallow portion you can see across the middle of the water. You'll have a drop on the back side that I would probably fish a jig down or a deep running crank. If it's warm enough I'd pull a spinnerbait or topwater over the top of it also. I'd really try fishing the end of the point were it looks like it's a little deeper on the left side. That looks like a funnel area that the fish should wait for bait fish to move around. This will also be one of the first places to warm up in the spring because it should be less affected by the rest of the lake and is probably fairly shallow. We have a similar place on a small lake close to here and if you can actually get the boat into that pond it seems like the fish in there get active a lot earlier than the fish in the main lake.
