  1. I think it's safe to say that I hold PP in very high regards. There is nothing stronger or tougher. However, 832 is second in those two categories and easily ahead in most others. It has a very long break in time but when it does it's a really good line. I'm not crazy about it in the bigger sizes, but I really like the 10#. Reliability and sensitivity are much more of a concern to me than comforts like being quieter and smoother. So far, 832 is allowing me to enjoy the best of both worlds. Dodge- That's the kind of credible feedback I look for. Although, I don't agree with you sometimes, I still hold your opinion in high regard. Great post. Keeping it real up in Poughkeepsie. I also love the open-minded loyalty.
  2. BC- Toray Solaroam Upgrade Spinning- Tatsu
  3. I'm 31 and have been fishing Shimano reels since I was 11. Never the first dud. Nothing has ever broke or needed replacing. Sold a 16 or 17 year old Chronarch last summer that still felt better than most brand new $200-$250 reels. It was never serviced other than a couple of drops of oil a few times. Keep in mind though that all of my Shimanos have been mid to high end models. I bought a couple of Citicas once but all others have been Curados, Chronarchs, Calcuttas, Cores, Stradics, Saharas, and Saros models. I have used but never owned some of the lower end reels and they were junk. Not saying that a quality reel can't be bought in that price range but the difference isn't even comparable. You get what you pay for. I buy rods and reels that make combos weighing 10 or 11 ounces to give me the highest amount of sensitivity possible and to compensate for my lack of talent. It takes alot of dough to get one that weighs that but there are times when I'm in the back of the boat and my partner and I are fishing the exact same set-up except he's using a $100 rod and reel. I will be catching fish and he can't get a bite. My personal opinion is that he can't feel the subtle strike with his Snoopy combo. It's the only thing it can be because he is just as good if not a better angler than I am. I think alot of times people buy cheap rods and reels, ride around with them in the back of their truck, and leave them outside all winter and are shocked that it didn't last two years. This is not just Shimano, I mean all brands and as someone else mentioned before most people just look for something wrong with a brand just because they don't use them. Just my two cents
  4. Sometimes a smaller jig like a bitsy will work better than a bigger profile. Same principles as other baits in that regard. I'm sitting here telling you to slow way down but there are also times when a fast snapping retrieve will get their attention better. Just don't give up on it. They are very versatile lures. I never fish one straight out of the package. I put my preferred trailer on and trim it up to make sure the trailer's action isn't hindered. Youtube trimming a jig.
  5. Slow down and then slow down some more. When you start feeling like you are going too slow, slow down some more.
  6. 7in. Strikezone Shake-Ups are the same way....hmmmm topwater shakeyhead...nah, that would never work
  7. Dang, these things sound like they might be as good as the old flying lure lol. Hooli- I always go with the larger 7in. finesse or trick worms to. They seem to net more weight for me + you can just bite a 1/4-1/2in. off after each catch if needed.
  8. I have the emerald mirror P17's. I tried on others with the cavity seal in and out and they were fine. My glasses came up missing the day they started spawning here so I got backed in a corner and had to go with P's because the only other polarized lenses they had were those Skeet Reese ones. I was scared the Skeets might send any fish I caught into shock...hideous. I think they basically design a normal pair of sunglasses then fill the gaps with the cavity seal. Stick some shades on and feel how much gap there is between your face and most of the frame. There's not much touching. I'm sure there's some tweaking they have to do for them but they feel normal without. I'm going with the Routs in smoke for the rest of the summer, emerald mirror is a bright amber. Was warned to stay away from the Jakes but can't remember why.?.?
  9. Ok, I'll give em a rip. Thanks.
  10. I don't know of one but don't take that to the bank.
  11. Can anyone give me an idea of how durable they are? The finesse worms in particular. Comparable to Robos or Berkley Powerbait Hand-Pours for example.
  12. The problem has been fixed from what I've been told. My optometrist says that due largely to Southern anglers ( because of the 100% humidity most of the summer) having issues with the cavity seals fogging they have made positive changes. Chris- Are you aware that the cavity seal is removable?
  13. X2 I've tested Megastrike time and time again and I get the same results every time. I like the lubrication qualities as well in thick grass.
  14. Yeah, I went back and checked today. They are $74.95. I'm going to grab one tomorrow.
  15. It is weird how that works. Had a Chronarch for 17 years that never had a single tune-up or a part replaced. LOL The first baitcaster (shimano) I ever owned sat at the bottom of my family lake for 13 years. I took it apart, cleaned it up, and it works fine. However, it sits on my shelf as a keep sake now.
  16. I picked up a few different Veritas models the other day and was impressed. IMO Abu took a pretty big swing in the right direction with that rod. Alot better balance than the Vendetta, which I do own. I like a little higher quality rod for my most used techniques but I think I'm going to pick one of these up for another multi-purpose rod. My local Marvin's Hardware has started carrying tackle?...?...but they have them on sale for $74.95. Very good deal in my opinion.
  17. Let me look into my creeestal ball...I see a sinking braid with a magical water-repellant fiber...can't find the word but it rhymes with "door" and "score" and "four"
  18. Ain't that the truth. The last time I carried my father to the ER we decided to pocket the little glass vial of lidocaine. They throw them away and you are getting charged for the whole thing so why not. Next time I have to remove one from myself I'll be good and numbed up.
  19. How many bass tackle addicts???...hmmmm...what are the bassresource.com membership numbers looking like these days? I bet the two are pretty close if all of us addicts will admit that we have a problem. The bait monkey never sleeps...
  20. Try telling my left thigh that removing the barb won't have any effect on a hook coming out or not. I was walking down the hall in my house with about 15 rod/reel combos in my hand (yes, it was stupid 4-5 is my limit now) when a rod tip got caught on a light fixture. As I tried to unhang it I ended up hanging one of the trebles of a rattle trap in my pants leg. When I took the next step forward I found out first-hand what a good hook-set feels like. The treble buried in just far enough that the barb was covered. We tried to pop it back out but that barb being maybe 1/32 of an inch deep wouldn't budge. I had to close my eyes and let my brother punch it on through (that hurt really bad) so we could snip the barbed end off with pliers. After the barb was removed, it slid right out with no resistance. That was just one incident. I can't count the times I've landed a fish and a barb would be the only thing keeping the fish from coming off. You guy's can go barbless if you want to but I'm not buying it.
  21. I bought the Savvy 702 as my first shakeyhead rod and sold it. I think you can find a much better rod for this application than the 702. I'm no drop-shot Guru like some others^^^^^^^ so I'll let them suggest the rods. I'll be using my 7'2" Med X-Fast Cumara and have been told it's perfect for it.
  22. That was my biggest problem with Samurai. The first time I touched it the thought of that super soft, silky finish dragging across timber spelled trouble to me. I never had a failure but I didn't like all the fraying. I think some sensitivity is lost in the softness of it to. Stiffer more rigid fluorocarbon is generally more sensitive and I think the same principles apply here. Regardless, to each his own.
  23. X2 Too small line diameters will reek havoc on a BC.
