  1. On one of the bass fishing shows on Versus, Rick Clunn said you shouldn't use a Palomar on fluorocarbon because the line itself is so hard that it will cut into itself when stressed causing a failure. He suggested using a uni knot so that's what I use. Everything else I've been using a Palomar but the Snell is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
  2. Shouldn't be hard to make them suspend. I got my hands on 7 or 8 for free several years ago and have put quite a few fish in the boat with them.
  3. I agree 100%. There is a couple of brands that have good hooks but there is a 100 that don't. It's not all about being sharp, it's a must, but it doesn't matter how sharp the hook is if it flexs too much or straightens out.
  4. Depends on if you want to catch fish or just get them close to the boat Gamakatsu Magic Eye Short Shanks and the right action rod have done wonders for me with treble equipped lures. I landed a 10lb. 1oz. and a 9lb. 11oz. Largemouth last year that I seriously doubt I would have landed without those hooks and rod The "Magic Eye" part is nothing special but I like the short shanks because I can go up a hook size most of the time. Especially, on lures like Lucky Craft Fat CB BDS 0's and 1's and Fat Mini SR's MR's DR's. They come with a size 5 and I can go up to a size 4. Alot of brands I go up from 6's to 4's with no negative effects. Mustad makes a KVD Elite Series Triple Grip with short shanks and wider gaps. I have them on some lures but have yet to really test them. They did fine with dinks but haven't hauled in anything really heavy with them yet. The right hooks are a game changer but the right rod is far more important to me. Good luck!
  5. Haven't tried it with vasoline but I soaked some plastics in a mixture of X-brand liquid attractant, minced garlic powder, and sea salt. I took them out a week later, rinsed them off, and let them dry. The scent stayed with them for a little while but it wasn't worth the mess and smelling like a fresh garlic clove for about 24 hours. IMHO it did make the garlic scent much stronger and last longer than most garlic flavored liquid attractants I've tried. However, after finally getting around to trying MegaStrike, I now leave the garlic in the kitchen. I'm a believer.
  6. No kidding! The amount of sensitivity gained by swapping my Curados out with Core50's was amazing. If they somehow shave another ounce or two off of those reels the sensitivity is going to feel like you stuck your rod tip into a light socket.
  7. 3-6 lbers were hammering my 125 in Golden Shiner yesterday. It's a nice size (3/4oz) that doesn't require a "swimbait" rod. The 95 White Lady is a good producer for me to. The spawn is on where I'm located. Wish I still had my 125 in Largemouth Bass. It would probably be a real killler.
  8. Never had a problem with Scum or Spro. Haven't had Koppers long enough to know. Koppers does seem to take on water quicker than Spro.
  9. When snelling a hook (3/0 RI BMF) how long should I leave the tag end?
  10. Just got my new DirtyJigs punch skirts in....hmmm. The collar that the line is fed through seems a bit rough. More so the trailing end than the lead. One actually has a bur that I'm going to have to knock off. Anyone else have the same issue?
  11. Anyone in the Southeast have much luck with big topwater sticks like Cotton Cordell Pencil Poppers, Ima Big Stick, Paycheck Baits The One? Comments from other regions are welcome as well.
  12. Is that custom paint or an original finish...looks custom to me. Older Daiwa maybe??? I can't find anything with that deep cut L ( gillplate) behind the eye. It also looks like an older Yo-Zuri model. :-? :-? :-?
  13. Weightless T-Rigged trick worms and lizards have always done very well fo me in grassy ponds.
  14. Ohhhhhhh yessir. Those are beautiful. What model Cumaras are they? Thank you. Sometimes, I still drool when I look at them. lol CUC-X68MH 6'8" Medium Heavy Extra Fast CUC70MH Reaction Series 7' Medium Heavy Medium Fast CUS-DX72M Medium Extra Fast (spinning)
  15. Wow, the extra salt or whatever changed the color big time. That particular bag wasn't anywhere near as dark as the ones on TW. Mine looked like Big Texan crossed with red-bug. They worked fine. Caught plenty of fish with them. I wouldn't even call it a bad bag.
  16. Since we are talking about these anyway....Has anyone ever gotten a bag of RI Sweet Beaver 4.20 that were way stiffer than normal and has an unusually high amount of salt in it? Like the bottom of a robo?
  17. This is more accurate in my opinion. Maybe a little more vibrant but close.
  18. When matched with a black-n-blue jig Noooo That's terrible advice, you should never use that
  19. Yeahup, yeahup. I have two of them as well but mine are much newer. Body looks identical but mine have a short sharp angled bill like a waker or 1-2 footer.
  20. Shake, Shake, Shake....Shake, Shake, Shake....Shake yo flukey, shake yo flukey Yeah, I know it was lame as Hades but I had to. Not sure why I was only alive for 20 days of the 1970's.....
  21. Ha, funny you said that. I have one in Ghost Sexysomethingoranother that two of the bb's were stuck in the bottom of it. They were put in before the plastic cured/hardened and wouldn't budge. Wouldn't run straight so I drilled a tiny hole in it and broke them free with a set of acetylene torch tip cleaners and plugged the hole with a clear epoxy. Works great now. You would actually have to drill more than one hole to make it silent because there is a rectangular weight/rattle akin to a "one knocker rattle" in a separate chamber under the front hook.
  22. Be nice if they'd get their website up to.
  23. Yeah, I try to avoid inserts as long as the company making them give it a smooth enough finish to minimize line abuse.
  24. For finesse spinning 6-8lb. Fluoro Seaguar Tatsu Higher test Fluoro- Toray Solaroam Superhard Upgrade but Trilene 100% isn't bad for the money Superline- Sufix 832....Samurai is smooth and quiet but.......for the sake of argument I'll just say I don't like it. Mono??? Gotta find a new fav. Trilene XL has failed me lately. Copoly- P-Line CX Premium is pretty tough stuff but I stay away from small diameters in copoly
