  1. Sir Snook, you probably enjoy catching a 5 lb bass on an ultralight rod much more than catching a 15 lb-er pitching a jig with a broomstick rod or whatever. I don't think anyone has any problem with that. But I also think you should try to understand that some people like to catch a boatload of dinks, some like to catch a few big bass on artificials, some others want to catch the biggest bass in the lake, whether it's on a swimbait or on a nightcrawler. For some it's the fight, and for others it's using the technique that gives them the best shot at a really big fish. There's no right or wrong in either outlook. It's all about what you enjoy doing the most. Peace,
  2. If it's as good as the two my other Maxes, it'll be great. Coupla questions if you don't mind: What do you think of the lure weight rating; is it accurate? What other rods have you used for similar techniques, and what is your opinion of the Powell considering the other rods? It'd be great if you can find time to answer them. Thanks.
  3. Indeed. Next week it is then.
  4. Keep an eye on THAT holy website tonight. You might have something to show off pretty soon.
  5. Anyone? I know there's a lot of Powell fans here.
  6. Doug, I think you want a right-handed reel then as pointed out above. I saw your original post and the pic, and thought you wanted a lefty because you asked if the handle could be switched. My b. But yeah, plenty of used curados and citicas floating around for $40 to $70 for the older models. I suggest you get one of them, unless you find a smoking deal on a new reel. There's nothing wrong with buying used stuff, especially from the fishing forums. Ebay, I like to be a little careful unless it's NIB.
  7. Hey Doug, you seem to be a nice person. So here's an offer. I have an upgraded lefty Citica B sitting in my apartment doing nothing. It's a great beginner reel, and in very good condition. PM me your address, and you can try it out. Use it, but don't abuse it. If you want to keep it, you will owe me 45 bucks, which is what I got it for. If you don't want it, simply ship it back to me. You can buy another reel, but you will know what a decent reel feels like. That knowledge should help you.
  8. Hello there, this is him. I'm not sure why I don't see my post either, lol. Must have hit delete or something For your baitcaster, I don't think it's too heavy at all. As for the spinning reel, I'm not familiar with it, so I can't comment. But most freshwater reels (shimano 2500 size, don't know what abu size that is), 8 lb test max is pretty okay I'd say. What do you mean when you say the line develops memory? Especially when you're talking about the baitcaster?
  9. LOL Goose, if you're a minnow, I don't know what I am. I got less than 25 hardbaits/ spinnerbaits/ buzzbait etc combined. I got a few jigs though, mostly off the dollar bin. Jigs and swimbaits are all I fish anyway. Plastics; I only buy them a couple of packs a time. Same for jigs; when I'm about to run out of them. Allow me to show off a couple of baits I got today. I'm VERY proud to own these. Matt Servant's single joint wake albino bluegill on top. 8" ROF5 limited edition tiger trout hudd deluxe- signed and numbered by Ken Huddleston himself- on bottom.
  10. Tackletour has an article on this. http://www.tackletour.com/previewgloomisnrxgreen.html
  11. Awesome Goose! Continued success to you and your PQs.
  12. I seen people do that too, with finesse spinning rigs especially. It's uncomfortable as heck! I prefer a spinning rod without a foregrip, so that I can rest my index finger on the blank. Works pretty well for me, along with line-watching (braid). I've seen bites I didn't feel, and I've felt bites I didn't see. I guess I must have missed some bites I didn't either see or feel though
  13. Here you go. 127 seconds of awesomeness.
  14. That sucks! I blew out a tire once, and something got busted up real bad. I had to spend like 400 bucks.
  15. Personally, I'd get the 733 Max. Handles a wide range of weights, and the extra-fast tip makes it an exceptional skipping rod. Well, I'd get that rod, but I already have it lol. Darn it. You wanted a baitcaster! Sorry, the only baits I skip with a baitcaster are darn big swimbaits.
  16. This is a good start. http://www.calfishing.com/reviews/trout_plugs/ac_plug/index.html
  17. Have you considered using two baits without hooks, and three with?
  18. I got a Revo Toro Winch with the 6 pin centrifugal braking. It's quite similar to the Shimano braking, at least from the outside, and works well.
  19. So which Daiwa reel did you get, BC? Post a pic man.
  20. I'm really happy that you're happy with your ugly stiks, but that's a pretty big statement. I can't drop 300 bucks on a Loomis, but saying that there's no major difference between a Loomis and a Dobyns Savvy is unjustified.
  21. Nope. Cardinal. Works fine with braided line too, as you can see...
  22. You know, if you're dropping 80 bucks on that reel, you could consider spending a similar amount for the rod. Or divide the budget more equally. Good spinning reels are usually cheaper than good baitcasters. JM 2c. If you're set on the price range for the rod, instead of that ugly stick, you could check out the abu garcia cardinals that Walmart sells. I broke the first one- a medium light power- within a couple of weeks, but the replacement has lasted for the last year and a half and still going strong. And that's while swinging in 3 pounders.
  23. I thought you were talking about Clemson when I read the title... oh well!
  24. Very cool! Nice job.
  25. Green. But only because it's easier to find green samurai. When I'm older, maybe I'll have to switch to yellow. LOL.
