  1. RW is right. If you're fishing from the bank like I usually do, then you're going to lose jigs if you're fishing them right. Which is the one of the reasons I stick to cheap (which does not always equate to inferior, contrary to popular opinion) jigs. Heck I've lost one or two jigs every trip even fishing from a rowboat. I throw a lot of Booyah baby boo jigs on my spinning gear, and they only have a rubber band to hold the skirt (not good). I learnt long ago to tie the skirt with some braid/ heavy mono so that it doesn't fall apart. Seems to work for me. I did have a couple of jigs whose weedguards splayed out and then fell apart after only half a dozen fish. I won't name the brand, but I have learnt to stay away from that particular overpriced stuff; especially after the customer support I received, or rather did not receive. EDIT: I had one Booyah baby boo that caught me well over a hundred LM bass before I lost it.
  2. I haven't fished either of those brands; so I can't really help you. I'd bet that Samurai would be smoother though, I have tried the regular power pro, one spiderwire and one sufix braid (don't recall which), and the Seaguar Kanzen; and felt like I had wasted my money- especially after I fished the Kanzen. The others were at least cheap.
  3. That's a big bass! Congrats.
  4. Since no one has mentioned my favorite brand, I will. Daiwa Samurai is all you need.

    Jiggin'

Jigs aren't just for cold water. It's my most productive bait, for numbers and for some decent ones too. This is the best article on jigs that I've ever found: Kudos to SoFla for keeping it simple.
  6. You did real well, for your first order. Soon it'll be time to place a second order, and then a third, and then the monkey has a firm hold on you!
  7. Have you tried skipping way underneath those docks?
  8. RI skinny dipper.
  9. Problem solved! Found another Citica 201D, and payment has been sent too. I now own an all-Shimano line-up; 4 low-pro, 3 round reels, 2 spinning reels. Pretty cool huh? The Prodigy will be in the flea market soon.
  10. Only when I'm fishing big baits on 25 lb test or higher line with rod, reel, and hooks to match lol. EDIT: I probably shouldn't have used the term "winch". What I meant is that I don't like the fish to "fight", and try to land it as soon as possible. I use the rod as much as the reel to move the fish though. So do you think a Curado 201B5 would work well for me? That would open up new possibilities, and the B5 is usually cheaper on Ebay compared to the regular 201Bs.. Thanks.
  11. I have a Citica 201D 7:1 which I use for casting jigs and a little pitching; and a Citica 201E (6.3:1) for junk fishing (anything and everything). I also have a Cabela's Prodigy A (Daiwa Advantage) which I picked up in a trade, and planned to use it for punching and some frogs. The Prodigy I will swap for a Curado 201B/ Curado 201BSF/ Citica 201D/ Citica 201E (depends what sort of deal I can find). The Citica 201D I'm probably going to leave on my jig rod; because my Powell balances perfectly with that heavy reel, and I love that combo; unless you guys convince me otherwise. Between the other Citica 201E, and the Curado/ Citica that I'm going to get, which one should I use for junk fishing, and which one for fishing in slop? Is a Curado B more "solid" than a Citica E? I know the Citica D is. Thanks, P.S. I'm NOT going to buy/ trade for a abadabadoo or a daiwa or a pinnacle or whatever. I've tried going that route several times, and each time I've been less than satisfied.
  12. Practice on smaller fish before you happen upon a possible new PB. This article might give you some ideas. http://www.calfishing.com/freshwater/dont_catch_the_male/Introduction_and_Tackle.html
  13. When I start spooling, I center the line guide with the knot on the spool, which I tie at or near the middle of the spool. Seems to help. #mono depends on the sort of abrasion resistance/ line visibility etc you'd like. I'd start with 12 or 14 lb test, and adjust from there, 6-7 feet should be a good starting point for the length. The point of using braid is taking advantage of it's no-stretch property, not its absolute strength. I doubt anyone's going to catch a 50 lb black bass anytime soon. Albright knot seems to work well for me. When punching/ flipping heavy grass etc, a leader is sometimes more of a liability than an advantage, Unless I'm punching (which I've started to do only very recently), I ALWAYS have a leader tied on if using braid mainline, no exceptions. The way I fish, it works well for me. You need to find your own preferences. Hope that gives you a starting point. Good luck, and good fishing.
  14. 50 lb should serve you well. I'd look at the diameter, not the lb test.
  15. I use Daiwa Samurai braid mainline with leader for jigs 100% of the time. 30 lb for spinning, 55 lb for casting,
  16. Long Mike, you can watch it here.
  17. Nice ones JSpoone! Those look like some old ladies (from the eyes).
  18. I used to think the yo-zuri line didn't absorb water. Quick story; casted out a floating bait meaning to deadstick it (15 lb Yo-Zuri hybrid). After 10 odd minutes, I noticed the bait won't twitch correctly when I worked it. The line had absorbed water and sunk! I managed to get even a floating bait snagged on an underwater limb that day when I tried to get it back to me. Using braid and mono leader for deadsticking ever since. The mono leader still sinks, but it's only 5-6 feet of the line underwater instead of the whole 30 yards.
  19. Greg Ross and/ or Adam Cargill. PM me for more info.

    New Pb!!

    Congrats! That is a P-I-G.
  21. Give them a call Woody. The 15% discount doesn't show up until you add the rod to your cart, and the discount coupon is already in the cart.
  22. Comparison for 8 turn alberto. Left to right: 30 lb Daiwa Samurai to 10 lb Sufix Elite, 55 lb Daiwa Samurai to 14 lb Berkley Trilene XT, 80 lb Daiwa Samurai to 25 lb Berkley Big Game. Passing through guides, only tip-top shown. 23. Casting Gear: Backwater4 custom, rage craw/ lobster Spinning Gear: Booyah Baby Boo. rage baby craw/ craw I ordered some Siebert Outdoors jig, because I never tried them before. I'll see how they are. I'm all for supporting our sponsors, provided they make a comparable product, at a competitive price.
  24. I don't remember when was the last time I used a jig with a rattle. I seem to catch my share of jig fish without them rattles anyway. I also don't remember when was the last time I spent $4 on one single jig. $2-ish is pretty much the limit for me per jig. Or just maybe I'm a cheapo.
  25. Idk about the "most" sensitive in any price range, for the simple reason I haven't fished them all. What I DO believe is that if it is made by Powell or Shimano, chances are you'll get a very good bang (sensitivity included) for your buck..
