  1. Thanks! That's it. Thanks for adding a related dimension. I tend to usually neglect pelagic baitfish since none of my local reservoirs have shad, although one has trout (all layers seem fair game there).
  2. Unfortunately I can't locate my copy of the book to find the answer right now. Anyway, why is it that we must fish top-middle-bottom in shallow (<10 FOW I think) water, and only the bottom in deeper water? And did Buck say anything about suspended fish? Thanks,
  3. Anything left? lol.
  4. What do you guys think about this bait? Catches bass? Lots of them? Thanks,
  5. glidebait!
  6. Thank you. You're right, I don't fish jerkbaits half (or even a tenth) as much as you probably do; nor do I fish for smallmouths. I hardly ever catch any decent fish shallower than 15 FOW anyway, except under certain conditions (where jerkbaits are not an option). My point was I'd rather change presentation, and then the bait (therefore action) before deciding color was a factor.
  7. Is the drag loose?
  8. Set the hook. You have a fish on.
  9. I like the hot blue shad color; not that I have ever fished the said bait, nor do I intend to. One paintscheme is plenty. I'd rather buy four baits that each does something slightly different; than buy four copies of the same bait in different colors.
  10. d**n, I got me some too! I like how everyone chose the green shad color! Great minds think alike.
  11. Dug something out of my library. As always, thank you WRB for sharing the knowledge. Note the brand! It's not Uncle Josh.
  12. A beer (or wine for you fancier people) bottle works too. Try RIT dye for coloring.
  13. No bait will suspend at all water temperatures, and some brands have better quality control than others. I don't know about the other baits, but the standard Pointer should be close to suspending in mid 50s water. Colder water is denser, so I guess a slow floating characteristic is expected? Unless it floats up like a bobber (in which case I'd return it), just fish it as it is. If it bothers too much, wrap a little (the tiniest bit) of suspenstrip on the front treble. Take it off when the water warms up.
  14. I'll pretend Dwight isn't a member and talk a little about jerkbaits. While I spend most of my time bottom bumping swimbaits, jigs and plastics, for me jerkbaits are a fun way to catch a lot of (mostly small) bass. Plus I seem to catch a lot of wrong species on them too, and that's pretty neat. Anyway, while depth and speed are the two big factors (in addition to location of course), in the few waters I fish, with jerkbaits, action seems to matter a fair amount. I guess 90% of my jerkbaits are Lucky Crafts. That's the brand I started with, and I still have the most confidence in. I did *discover* the 110 this last summer, but we'll see how that goes. I am not sure if Lucky Craft has a high-action slow-riser in their lineup. So, talking about action. I fish 4 baits that go down to the 4-5 feet zone, and stays there. The Pointer 100, Pointer 112, Pointer 95, and for the last few weeks the 110 FX Tour. Each of these have a different sound, and act differently. (How well do you know your baits?) Colder water I'm usually starting with the 112; warmer, the 100. Seems to me the 112 has a tighter action than the 100. If all else fails and it's cold, I try the 95. Different attitude while suspended too. Sound might have something to do with it though. Not sure. I wish they made each of these baits in a high pitch, low pitch, and a silent version. One bait that I feel is a shallower counterpart to the 112 is the 110 flashminnow. I think Hooligan turned me onto these. Very underrated bait, and for whatever reason, everything in my waters love it. Going down deeper into the column, I have my staysees, live-leviathan and the Pointer XD. Among the three I like the Leviathan the best. You can give it a quick pop while suspended and it sort of rears up. Difficult to explain. Also, you don't fish the DD jerkbaits with a jerking retrieve. I find it better to sweep and pause. Even with shallower baits, if the jerk pause deal isn't working, I'll actually sweep and pause if I want to catch some jerkbait fish. Seems to work especially well with the flashminnow and the 112.
  15. Thank you. The Gunfish 115 used to be my favorite topwater, caught a few nice ones. Not sure why I haven't fished them in a while... Thanks again. That might just explain why I almost never catch anything on poppers, but am fairly successful with Sammys..
  16. Same as every other topwater and jerkbait I have; a little blue/ purple, a little chartreuse, and a little pink/ red. I don't really care how and where these are painted on to form different paintschemes. Sorry, I guess that's not of much help; but that works for me. Also, I guess I suck at fishing poppers, because I haven't caught much on any kind of poppers. At least, the Rio Rico has turned out to be more productive than PopMaxes, so that's something. EDIT: looking at the color patterns on TW, I rather fancy the Okie Shad. The J.Johnson looks good too.

    Sparrows

No questions asked nor answers expected; except that I don't like knockoffs. But may be the Rick Clunn RTX fans would like to try a few of these too. They are called AIM-7s; hence the title.

    Sparrows

Ok, that's not what they're exactly called. 15 bucks a piece and all over my facebook newsfeed. Comments?

    Mend-It

Let the plastic/ tear dry; apply some (a little) mend-it; hold the tear together for a few seconds; and leave it alone for a few minutes. Should be good to go after that.
  20. Well done!
  21. Undo the three screws and take the sideplate off. Now hold the thumb bar UP, and then put the sideplate back on and tighten the screws with the thumb bar in the up position. Report if it's any different.
  22. Don't do it.
