  1. I think it was probably the Daiwa, or maybe the Abu Garcia.
  2. I'd get the Citica I if you're strapped for cash AND not planning to fish saltwater with it.
  3. First, action has (usually) little to do with the size or weight of the bait. Power? Yes, probably. Second, rod length should not be a function of your height (or lack thereof).
  4. 50 to 200 size reels are fine for regular bass fishing. Choose line type and size depending on baits and cover.
  5. Looks like a CJ. Chinese Junk.
  6. Low water level -> take pics and notes!
  7. Buy a spinning rod and/ or a baitcasting reel? Maybe?
  8. There is a good reason *not* to do both though. (The line will get caught in the split of the split ring.)
  9. Not as impressive as A-Jay's; but I got some pics too! Sexy French Pearl 110+1.
  10. Yes. No seriously, get the color you think you'll have confidence in.
  11. I honestly don't know how you old-timers casted with one hand with those short pistol grip rods. @cheezyridr what are you looking to spend on the rod + reel? Spinning or casting?
  12. I know the Loomis back bounce rods are popular for swimbaits. Is this rod similar? You want to find out more about the lure ratings- which will be technique dependent. Casting and drifting are not the same.
  13. I'm surprised @A-Jay hasn't posted a picture of his new out of box GP perch 110+1 yet! The plus one is in a class of it's own (see that sort of rhymes too!) Haven't found a *jerk*bait that fishes as well in the 7-8 feet range. The KVD 300DD is good if you all ever need a 110+2!
  14. Clear as mud! A couple hours back, I almost ran into Lizard Man. Would you believe it? But then I remembered your post, and stayed below his sight line and managed to get away.
  15. No experience, but seems like it's way too short for a swimbait rod..

  17. Agreed, and I was wrong (obviously!) I don't fish for big fish anymore (that might change in future) but yeah spending 15+ minutes on one retrieves- not necessarily with a worm- is sometimes the only way to get bit. One thing I do recall (from my notes), the bigger fish (I consider 7#+ NLMB big) were all caught when I was fishing extremely slow or pretty fast. I'm starting to get way off topic. One last thing. I think a lot of folks don't realize that catching 4 or 5# fish is easy if you know how to target the largest fish in the reservoir. I fish the same locations I would, just with different presentations (or baits), and I'm not worried about timing so much.
  18. Probably. I have a feeling you haven't read the book...
  19. I have 3 that'll cast them (baits down to true 3/16 oz) as far as I ever need to. I don't use spinning gear, so I can't compare. 7'6" light medium heavy/ fast helium3 7'6" medium/ fast $250 stick from the company that must not be named 7'6" medium/ (fast-ish with a soft tip) bps cranking stick Any 200 size or smaller reel will work. I use 200 and 70 size curados, with 10# or 12# Tatsu.
  20. I used to have a *humminbird* fishing buddy... I liked it.
  21. Ned rig success.. sort of. I have a ritual. Once every few months, I'll dust off my spinning rod, clean the guides, find the spinning reel, mount it on the rod, thread line through the guides, and tie on something stupid.. like a ned rig or a wacky worm or whatever. Just to check if I still dislike spinning gear as much as I used to (few months back). It's a pretty big commitment, considering I only take 2 or 3 rods with me. Caught 7 dinks and a 16" fish on a 1/16 oz mushroom head with a TRD in about an hour before I got tired of it. I'll try it again after three or four months lol. Still don't like spinny poles or spinny reels. Also caught two lean and mean bruisers.
  22. Sucked pretty hard today. Started great with a 2.5# class fish on the second cast (on an 110+1). I forgot my scale, so I'll call it a 5#. Lost another about the same size boatside on the next cast. Big deal I thought. I'll probably put half a dozen 2-3# in the boat by the time I'm done. Well, didn't quite turn out that way; and it all went downhill from there. Dink after dink after dink, with an occasional small keeper in the mix. Caught a scrawny 17" fish right before sundown, and called it a day.
  23. There's no one best. It all depends on the cover/ structure/ depth and if you're pitching, punching, skipping swimming or casting. Trailers: SuperPork frog, GYCB DT grub and Rage Craw. Skinny dippers for swim jigs.
