How would you fish them? Cast and retrieve or jig under the boat?

    Jig Advise

I need to pick up some jigs for the deeper water fish, what would you suggest? Here in NY, the lake I fish has a thermocline at 15-17 feet. The bass are hanging out at 15' and just under it. The water is very clear, and with a surface temperature of 80 degrees. Ive not really jigged for bass before, so Im open to all suggestions. Thank you, kb
  4. Well I went out this morning from 6am to noon, marked allot on the ft, but didn't catch much. Picked a few small bass up, but no luck on the bigger ones. I marked the larger fish just below the thermocline, at approximately 17 feet. Lots of smaller fish above the thermo. I mostly threw crankbaits, and wacky style worms.
  5. Some of the lures that have caught bass in the past do not resemble anything naturally found in the water (spinnerbaits, ect.). This would lead me to believe that bass are opportunistic feeders. They'll try it if it fits,it and spit it out if they don't like it. I say go for it and let us know your results. Kb
  6. Great thread!
  7. Im no expert, but Id look for some unusual feature along the ledge. Fish where the creek comes in, its a nice ambush spot, then look for outcroppings, dips, and other different features. Just MHO. Kb
  8. Ive seen those before, they are great. Nice gift.
  9. Well I guess Im just going to have go when I can, and try again. Thanks for the replies, and other helping tips?
  10. How would you fish the heatwave? Would you go out at the end of the day as the air temps slowly drop and the sun sets, or go in the morning before the heat of the day?

    NY Newby

Hi all, New to the site, but not new to fishing. I have been on a bass fishing hiatus for many years, and am looking to get back into it. Im in south eastern NY, Dutchess county and mostly fish from my kayak. Looking forward to meeting on the water. kb
