  1. I use one of the metal blade baits such as the *** Blade or Heddons. I throw it past the boil and let it sink for 3 to 4 seconds and reel it back to the boat. Works pretty well most of the time.
  2. Get the Shimano Crucial Crankbait Rod in 7'11' rated MH with fast tip. I have one and it seems to me tip is closer to med-fast than fast. No matter what the tip really is, it is a great crank rod. I have had mine for over a year and like it more than some custom glass rods I have for cranks.
  3. If you can find a 50E by all means get one. I purchased one around 3 months ago and had it tunned. Can not really tell a lot of difference between it and the Core 50 I have in casting distance and retreive. The Core feels a little more refined and really has a better retrieve but the Curado is close.
  4. Have 3 of the Little Johns and have fished them off and on since spring. Really like their action but I yet have to catch anything on one. Have done really well with the swimbaits they make.
  5. Guy who builds custom rods dropped off one today and said he was going to sell a "bunch" of the rigs on his site this weekend. The only details I know is he has 3 arm and 5 arm rigs. His site is dixiecustomrods.com. Sorry I do not know how to post the address where you can just click on it.
  6. I want to use 15# Suffix Performance Stretch baird on a 7'10" glass rod and Curado 50 or Calai 100 reel for cranks. Do you think the 15# braid is to small and will dig into itself and I should use a larger diameter braid or do you think it will cast OK without a lot of issues. Also what is your opinion of the Suffix Stretch Braid. Thanks
  7. On Norris Lake NE of Knoxville we are experiencing the same conditions. The buzzbait and other top water work well until 9am, then cranks, spinnderbaits, and etc. as day wears on.
  8. Have been looking at the Dawia Aggrest reel and seriously thing about purchasing one. Can anyone who has one give me some info on smoothness, drag, casting and any other features. If possible compare it to a Shimano Curado 200 E7 or a Daiwa Team Zillion as these are 2 reels I own and about the only reels I use and can relate to. Thanks
  9. The number one reason I belong to BR is the members here. They know what they are talking about and do not berate you for what is a stupid question to them. I have been out of bass fishing for 25 or more years due to professional responibilities and have only restarted fishing since my retirement so I know I have asked questions that most fisherman know but the members have always answered my "stupid" questions and have improved my fishing abilities ten-fold. I have been a member since a long time before the crash and I wish I could contribute more to the board and maybe some day I can but for now I am just trying to learn all I can. I can honestly say that I have not been given any bad advice on the board. You should be very proud of this board and its members. The members of this board are a credit to the sport of bass fishing.
  10. Is his reel an older Steez model. I have a 100 and 103 Steez Ultra Magnesium reels and they both are 7.1 retreives.
  11. I use a Shimano Crucial 7'6" MH Rod for some cranking and I like it very well. Do not know if you will like but it might pay to check one out.
  12. Have not used those 2 types swim jigs but use Dirty Jigs Cal Swim Jig and have had some success with it. Not as much as I would like. It has a larger hook and really is not a finesse type jig but caught a 4 lb 12 oz LM. That is the largest fish so far.
  13. Always wear my PFD and make anyone else that is in my boat wear one. Cheapest life insurance you can have on the water. Also have ring on PFD and alway keep the "kill switch" clipped to. Grandson fishes with me and I try to be as safe as possible and teach him to be safe.
  14. Bass Pros Bill Dance
  15. Purchased 1 from TW several months ago. Have not used it yet but will try it next trip(tomorrow 4-3-11) and post results.
  16. Thanks GTrombly just ordered clear.
  17. Went to Tackle Warehouse site and found Smelly Jelly and ordered but could not find JJ's Magic there. Where can I purchase JJ's. Would like to try each and see which one works best for me. Thanks
  18. Try the book "Big Bass Zone" by Siemantel. Has a lot of good information and techniques in it.
  19. Thanks Sam. That was really good read. Have never paid much attention to the barometric pressure before but now will watch more closely.
  20. 6" Sluggo.
  21. I use snaps on all my cranks. It seems to let them work better and when changing baits is quicker and easier. Still retie as often as often as I feel I need to.
  22. Thanks for showing the photo. That is a great ideal.
  23. I am like you Blue Streak. I have 3 of the 4600UC and use them for most of my fishing. They are very well built and mine are very smooth and they will handle anything you hook up with. There are large stripers in the lake I fish and they pose no problem for the 4600's and the narrow spools still hold enough line for the big fish.
