  1. Thanks for the reply. Well I'm going to have to order a few and I'll post my review next spring. Sounds like by the time I can get them I'll probably have thin ice on most waters in my neck of the woods. I really like the idea of having a crank with a swiveling EWG hook trailing behind it. I don't know why this hasn't been thought of eariler. Thanks again.
  2. Any of you ever use the New Sebile D&S Crank baits? I'm curious how well they work. The idea sounds ingenious to me. The fact that I will be able to throw the bait into timber with a lot less worry of getting hung up is exciting to me. Of you guys that have tried them, Do they float to the surface when standing still, do they sink or suspend? How has your luck been? I'm looking forward to picking up a few. Bottom line, are they worth $15 a crank? Thanks.
  3. Thanks Nate! As always....Very helpful info from you. I was not even aware of a Droid app. I'll look into it as well. The lakes that i normally fish are the finger lakes: Owasco, Otisco, Cayuga and Oneida. I also fish North Sandy Pond and Black Lake pretty often as well. BTW what was the cost of the app? Thanks
  4. I am thinking about buying an Eastern Navionics Hotmap. This supposedly coveers the Northeast US. Anyone out there use this and find it helpful? I read a review on Amazon.com that said it rarely showed the contour lines which is precisely what i am looking for. There were only 2 reviews (Eastern) so i really don't have much to go on. As always I appreciate any info.
  5. I am heading out to lake Anna this Sunday. My family and i will be on vacation in the Lynchburg area and I got the OK to meet her Naval Brother at the lake. I will not be towing my boat down and he doesn't have one so we plan on renting one while we're there. I'll bring my SONAR and strp it on the rental. I Can't wait. I'm so used to fishing up here in the North Country that i really don't know what to expect down there. I'm told it is just not the same. Bigger Bass and different baits. Maybe I'll get to break out some of my Koppers frogs! Any pointers you can give me for Anna are appreciated. I'd also like to hit Smith Mountain Lake as it is only a half hour drive from where we are staying. Any thoughts on that lake?
  6. I'm thinking about putting a gas motor on my 10E Raider. I have an opportunity to buy a 6 hp johnson which is over 10 years old but basically brand new. Old neighbor bought it and never used it. He wants $600 for it with the tank and lines. Or I was planning on picking up a 2.5 hp motor brand new. I'm a little worried that 6 hp might be too much power and weight and want to make sure the 2.5 hp will move me around at a nice clip. Any of you have gas motors on your raiders? On a side note, I would like to use the motor on my 16 foot glass tri-hull as a kicker as well. I think the 6 hp would be better for that.
  7. Flip Flops in the summer. When it is colder out I'll where either ordinary sneekers (I like Addidas Stan Smith) Or if it is really cold out, I'll where my Wolverine work boots.
  8. I'm curious as to what fish finders you all have on your raiders. I'm looking to get one for my 10 footer and I found a cheapo Lowrance x-51 at gander for $59.99. I am considering it but I am worried that the vertical pixels are too low at 160. Most of what I fish is anywhere from 5-20 feet of water but I do occasionally take it on a couple of deeper lakes at around 70 feet of water. I'm sure it would show detail fine up to 20' but I am worried about it @ 70'. What do you all have?
  9. If there is only one bait that I could bring on the water it would be the Smokin Rooster in Watermelon/Red Flake rigged on a new Stanley Wedgehead VLock Hook (in red). There is nothing better! Nothing beats it!
  10. Interesting. Thanks, I'll give it a try.
  11. I bought an old 16' 1974 Trihaul from a guy a few of months ago. He gave me reciepts and documents for both the boat and trailer (No Title, which is not necessary on a boat that old). The problem that I have is that the faded registration that he gave me says non-transferrable on it and the NYS DMV would not accept it (The back is signed over by him). Guy's phone is disconnected now and it's like he dropped off the face of the earth. I've tried all different ways to get ahold of him with no luck. So my question to everyone is this, Is there a loophole or anyway at all that I can somehow get this thing registered so I can legally take it out on the water this year? I'm at my wits end with this. I've heard of auto brokers down south, in Alabama in particular, that will put together new documents for a fee. Any of you ever heard of such a thing? Anyway, Thanks for the help.
  12. This is a picture of my daughter Grace and her first fish caught last summer. She was 3 years old at the time. I love this picture. It looks like she is studying the lil guy. She just loves fishing. All winter long she would just practice casting her little pink princess fishing pole in our living-room with a rubber plug. She gets a little upset when I am going and just can't take her due to the elements. You can just see how sad she gets when she realizes she can't come along this time. But now that the warmer weather is here (hopefully to stay for a while), She'll be able to come along allot more often. I'm probably more excited than she is about it to tell you the truth. My 3 year old son Mitch will start this year as well. Anyway, I'm just an excited and proud pappa boasting about my lil girl. Here is the pic!
  13. Went back out late this afternoon for a couple hours and caught 12 large mouth in a matter of about 1 1/2 hours. Only problem was none were over 14". Still a great time!
  14. Let me put it this way....I throw my beer in a mesh keeper basket and throw it overboard. It was cold enough to keep them frosty the entire time. They were colder coming out of the water than they were coming out of the cooler.
  15. I didn't actually check the temp, but I can tell you that the ice was finally out only two Mondays ago. And the last two weeks it rarely got over 45 degrees and most nights were below freezing. I really don't think it was much over 38-40 degrees. The weather here has been extremely cold this spring.
  16. It may have been bigger than 4.5. I was a little surprised that's what the scale said. I was expecting 6-7 lbs. Its an old cheap scale. Maybe its time for a new one.
  17. That didn't work so well. Let me try again. Here you go.
  18. So most of the waters around here thawed about two weeks ago. I finally got a chance to get out on the Bass Raider for a few hours on Easter Eve. The hits were few and far between as the water temp was still extremely low. But i finally got my first catch of the year (hey the ice was 39 inches thick in one place I fish during the winter). I couldn't wait any longer to get out on the water. I hooked into a 4.5 lb bucket head that put up virtually no fight. She was kinda Lethargic. Caught her on a 3/8 oz strike king chartreuse bleeding spinner-bait with a Colorado/Willow blade combo slow-rolled about 12 inches under the surface in about 4 feet of water. Anyway here is a picture of the old gal.
  19. I've been doing a little research on how to make soft plastic baits. Everything from mixing the materials to making my own custom molds. I have been thinking about trying to do it for a few months now. It doesn't seem terribly difficult and it seems that once you have the equipment and molds at your disposal, making the baits is a quick process. After reading many articles and watching many videos I thought I should check with all my pals at "The Resource" to see if anyone is making them. Surely there must be some of you folks making your own handmade soft plastic baits. So, can you give us any tips, or show us some pics? In your opinion what is the best way to aquire the materials? Just buy plastisol? Melt down old plastics? Do you make your own molds or do you buy them? Are there bothersome fumes? Do you feel they work as good as storebought baits? Etc. Etc. I'd love to hear from some of you and pics are encouraged! Edit: Tried to change the "there" to "Their" in the title.
  20. I just bought the last 10e from my local ****'s the other day for $499. I can't wait to set mine up like most of you have done. What I have seen in some of those pictures is absolutely amazing.
  21. I've been meaning to ask how the thumpers are. So how are they? I'm a huge fan of space monkies and smokin roosters but have yet to try out the thumper. I just picked up a pack of Anacondas and eliminators to try out.....The action looks awesome and as soon as the Ice melts away I'm going to give em a whirl. What size Thumpers do you use? Thanks
  22. What is the best knot to tie Braid to Mono and Braid to Flouro? Albright, Reverse Albright, Square knot? (kidding about the square knot) Thanks
  23. I think they do it once a year to clear out old stock and make room for new. The only problem is you just never know what will be marked down 50% and 75%. But that's a risk that I'm willing to take.
