  1. At the one where I live, they have SOME white plastics, but not very many compared to other colors. I was looking for Rage Tails in white, and they didn't have any on the shelves except for the toad. For most of the lines of soft plastics, they don't carry any white in stock. For example, seems like they carry pumpkinseed in every line, but white in only a handful. I was looking for a white lizard, and out of the 10+ brands/models of lizards they carry, I only found 1 or 2 in white. Maybe they're available on line.
  2. This is probably a dumb question because I've only been bass fishing since last year, but why isn't white a more popular soft plastic color? I don't see many white soft plastics at Academy and Bass Pro, but when I see my soft plastics in the water, to me they look a lot like shad. They also seem to be pretty visible in the stained waters that I fish. I've been using white worms and creature baits and have had pretty good luck with them. Maybe I would have had even better results with a different color. White seems to be a popular spinner bait color though. Can anyone enlighten me?
  3. Matt, Complete newbie question here, but can't you get a spinning rod with the same stiffness characteristics for a baitcaster? For example, a medium hard with fast tip is available on both spinning and baitcasting. Educate me!
  4. Here's a crappie I caught, also on a Johnson silver spoon.
  5. What a great site! I'm a life long salt water fishing guy and I've been reading this site like crazy to learn about fresh water fishing. We just moved to a new neighborhood and our house backs up to about a 20 acre retention pond. I finally got to fishing it this past week and there's pretty decent fishing there. So far I've caught quite a few catfish, some crappie, and some bass. I see gar there also but I haven't tried catching one yet - I'm little put off by those teeth! I'll have to man up and try to catch one though. Here's a picture of a bass (LMB?) I caught the other evening. It measured out to 15 inches. Any idea how many pounds this might be? He looks pretty fat and well fed. I've been catching bass, including this one, and crappie on plain old Johnson silver spoons. I've tried using spinners and topwaters and have only had a little success with spinners. That Johnson spoon has worked the best, although it may be because there's a lot of shad in the water. I even caught a 2+ foot channel cat on that spoon by jigging it near shore. Thanks for reading - it's been a fun learning experience so far and I have a loooong way to go.
  6. Nice! I just started fishing a community pond that backs up to my house, and I can't believe there's decent fishing there. I've caught channel catfish, crappie, and a few 15 inch bass. I've seen some gar in there as well. I've been fishing salt water all my life, so it's been a crash course in fresh water fishing lately. NOW I get why people fish for bass - a lot of fun and it's a lot easier to find fishing spots. I typically have to drive 1+ hour to the coast for salt water fishing.
