  1. I have both reels and feel the opposite of you.....I have tried both reels on my jig rod....a Dobyns 734. The Winch will outcast the STX, but not significantly. The Winch also feels more refined.......Myself, I would trade the STX for another winch in a heartbeat....
  2. I picked up a Dobyns Savvy SS734C for my jig rod and to pair with the Revo...any thoughts?
  3. You have a TON of GREAT options then! Dobyns Champion 704c & 764c St. Croix Avid AVC70MHF & AVC710HMF Tons of others, too. I already have an Avid AVC70MHF.......so I should add another? As for the spinning set-up, what rod and what should I use it for... AVC710HMF is the Flippin' stick which seems fine to me... Other ideas? I am trying to close my gaps so I have a rod for every application....
  4. I am comfortable spending $200 each on rods.......
  5. Alright guys....Here is what I have and what I use it for... St. Croix Avid 7' MH Fast / Curado 201E7 Currently using it for Spinnerbaits, Senkos, Jigs St. Croix Premier 6'6" MH Moderate / Revo Winch Cranks - Mostly Shallow to Mid St. Croix Triumph 6'6" M Fast / Stradic 2500 I usually have a tube or soft plastic rigged on this rod. I would like to swap this rod out for something else. Given it's going to be my lone spinning set-up, what rod would you pair it with and what would you fish with it? As of right now, I would also like to add 2 more rigs. Both casting (I have a RevoSX here on the shelf looking for a mate.) What should I pair with the Revo, I am thinking something like 7' M or MH Extra Fast for Jigs and plastics? Any suggestions here? Lastly I want to add a Flippin' or Pitchin' set-up....even something for tossing Frogs in slop....what's the advice here? Let me know what you guys think of the line-up and where I may need to tweak...now that I have multiple set-up's I am kinda lost as to where I need to go with rod actions and what to fish with them.....
  6. ok, maybe a dumb question.... Is the point where the Alberto knot is tied (connecting the braid and fluoro) acceptable to reel through the guides? Obviously a swivel is not accepatable.......but can the knot be hard on them? Sorry..new to baitcasting...just don't want to make a dumb mistake...
  7. That is one of my favorite rods for top waters...especially those like X-Rap walks or even a subwalk.....also a fairly good rod for tubes and lighter jigs....at least I think....and as you already know a good rod for plastics.....
  8. Okay guys....I recently picked up my first baitcaster set-up. 201E7 paired with an Avid70MHXF. I have fished spinning set-ups myh whole life and always used a swivel inline to hopefully avoid twist in the line. When using baitcasting equipment, I see alot of guys tend to tie a 6-8foot leader via a knot such as the alberto knot, etc. Is line twist less of an issue with baitcasters or am I thinking incorrectly? I would love to not use the swivel, as I do worry about dragging it through the guides..... I will be using 40# Sufix Performance Braid with a 20# Fluoro leader..... Will the "style" of leader be dictated by the lure i am fishing, etc? Sorry if this topic has been killed...couldn't find an answer through the search function that nailed the answer I was looking for...
  9. Can't wait to see it finished.......starting on my own project boat...all these great ideas from these builds really helps my planning...
  10. Watermelon, Green Pumpkin Black Flake....5".
  11. Went to my local Dick's....all Senko's regular price...nothing reallyh on sale that was worth buying...must be hit or miss by store....go figure..
  12. Sol's are pretty hot.....
  13. Well....I have rod and reel in hand......leaning towards braid (Sufix Brand)....any other suggestions/ pros=cons?
  14. What braid would you guys recommend spooling up on this combo?
  15. sounds like a plan to pair it with the Avid then........ Thanks for all the great advice fella's....much appreciated...!!
  16. Ok fellas......longtime lurker, first post.... I currently have a Stradic 2500 paired with a (2 pc.) 6'6" St. Croix Triumph (medium). I recently started fishing again after a 10 year break. I wanted the 2 piece rod as it is easy to throw in the car and hit spots here and there on the jump. I bought the Stradic based on advice from a few others and I am very comfortable with spinning gear. Also, if i upgrade the rod, the reel will be there. This is the only setup I currently have other than my ultralight. I throw alot of plastics, some spinnersbaits and jigs and the occasional crank. I fish mostly from the shore, but am working/wanting to get a boat. As for a reel, I have my heart set on a Curado 200E7. I have never owned a baitcaster, but love what I hear and from what I have tried of them, really think they could be for me.....I am used to reeling my spinners with my left hand and holding my rod with the right hand. Should I consider getting a left handed baitcaster? Does anyone switch back and forth like I would between a spinning combo and baitcaster? As for the rod, I have no idea what to get. I would like to keep the rod itself under $175, whether I buy new or used.... Am I making the right decision with the reel and what should I rely on the new rod/reel to do and rely on my other setup for? THANKS!!
