  1. The quality is luck, being consistant is all about skill. Skill has my vote.
  2. I have a hat with, Jimmy Houston, Kevin VanDam,Larry Nixon, David Fritts, Tommy Biffle, Hank Parker, Mike Ike. Rick Clunn. On it and cards signed buy them all . Then I have pictures of me with Bill Dance signed by him. Also Have Jack Wingates autograph on one of his shirts from Lake Seminole.
  3. I saw Jay Yelas Catch his biggest fish of the day right after a boat ran so close to him at full speed he almost went off the side of the boat. If ya are catching fish, just wait for it to settle and keep on fishing.
  4. If I know I am going to be fishing a few laydowns, I always have 2 or 3 Spinners and 2 or 3 Cranks on the deck. Then if they dont work, my trusty Jig and pig is always close by.
  5. To tell you the truth, you will get a 1000 answers to this question and for the most part none of them the same. Conditions change and people use so many diff. ways to adjust to them. Best thing to do is just keep trying one new bait after another till you find what works for you. From the picture, you have lots of time to make a note book of what you try and what did or did not work in what condition. Then when you are an Old feller like me you will have a book full of tricks that will win you many tournaments. Good luck!!!
  6. well, I am sure Mike worries about those winers as he polishes his BMC trophy. :
  7. Like the fish, you just have to learn to adapt to the conditions. Those fish wont move far, they will just move deep or shallow or go tight to cover. Try your speeds of presentation, try slowing down , or speeding up . you will figure it out , but nothing beats time on the water to learn a pattern for certain weather conditions.
  8. He is just not like the norm so he stands out. Not a bad PR move if ya ask me, the more attention you get in this sport the better the Backing. Tim Horton is another example, not as loud as Mike but he looks nothing like your Pro Bass Angler Norm, so he draws attention. Its not hurting the sport or anyone else so to each his own. Alot of the complaints come from people who are in the shadow of the ones they complain about.
  9. I dont know the area you are in but I always have good luck catching the big boys by punching through the heavy mats on a lake or river. Use a one oz. weight or bigger and rig it texas style with the plastic you like in your area. A stiff rod 7' or better with a good braided line 50 # test is what I use. When you lure goes through the mat hold on tight, when they hit it they hit it hard most of the time. If you dont get bit when it first goes through then Jig the baut up and down but keep your line tight. Then just cover every hole in the mat. I have caught a few over 10# this way, but most all of them have been 3 or more #.
  10. I know for a fact that fish will bite as soon as the next day after being caught the day before, but for fishing a tournament, if you are sure fish are holding in your Favorite spot, then dont fish it, but if you just want to see for sure, dont set the hook, and let them shake off.
  11. formost, hook sets are free, better safe than sorry. Set That Hook. You have to aquire a feel for each differant bait. One thing I did to give me confidance in a bait I had never caught something on but had seen others do well with was to go out on the lake with only that bait tied on in differant colors and fish till I caught something, then it was just a matter of doing it again and again till I got some confidance in the bait, then I would do it again with a new bait and so on.
  12. Sounds alot like the flint river here in Florida. I have found the a shad rap suspending or floater works pretty well.
  13. some of the smaller legal fish need to be kept, its a good pratice, but 3 pounders, no way. Hey Glass man, Tallahassee Fl. Here
  14. I just happen to be from tallahassee and I use Cranks and Spinnerbaits alot in the cold months. Slow roll them both. I also use a Jig , its a slower bite but better fish. I belong to Big Bend Bass Club here, we have a web site if ya want to take a look, we always place a couple of guys on the State Federation team every year. www.bigbendbass.com
  15. I have also found it to be eaiser to detect a strike if I am swimming the Jig rather than using the pop up form , I have caught Bass ten to one Swimming the Jig.
