  1. Here a video of Skeet Reese casting for maximum distance testing with crankbaits. http://archive.advancedangler.com/featurearticle.asp?Selectvalue=AA%20Tech%20Video%20-%20Crankbait%20Casting%20Tests
  2. An NBA court is 94 feet long 31.3yds wonder if I could lob a Spro frog from endline into far hoop.
  3. I have 3/8 Prime Bucktail in Bunker color pattern. Just havent used it much other presentations have taken its place. Didnt use it at all last year. The little I used it though I did catch bass with it. Use a steady yo-yo retrieve with what would guess a 1-2 foot drop. Might gave a twitch here there.
  4. nightcrawler on #4 hook no weight, hook the fat end in about 1 inch let rest hang. I literally catch hundreds of cruisers this way working my way around a little lake.
  5. Well in my thread here http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/115696-catching-fish-at-a-distance/ I use Google Earths measurement tool for the distance reading. I dont know the accuracy of the tool but the pic below has the object in the background. I get to that area with Fat Ikas, jigs w/craws. with 1/2- 3/4 oz RES much farther.
  6. Quantum Smoke 7' Medium Fast. For $100 off ebay you get 3.4oz, well balanced even with a 5.5oz Shim Core50mg, can handle 3/4oz lures, very good sensitivity.
  7. First time out today, yesterday ice was still covering the area shown in background maybe 15' or so open. This is the north end and little "lagoon" section of a 22 acre lake rest of lake section still 95% covered. I caught mine on bottom 16' with nightcrawler. Didnt feel any tap just pressure like hook got caught on weed but then felt a side movement and just reeled-in it didnt fight just came in. Walked around rest of lake and saw another small open piece and a Northern Pike 2' from shore getting some sun. Tossed out a crawler but no take. Tried out my new gear of Core50mg7 on my Smoke rod and new Okuma Helios bc on "new" discontinued Cumara 7'6" crank rod. The set-up that cauch the fish was 8' ML Mod Avid with Stradic 1000 reel.
  8. Well if it gets hot where you are might be worth a try in those conditions. Last summer it produced for me in 100+ days. JigMe Ive caught many in 20fow in the thread here third one down was out far and on bottom of 22' deep lake. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/104503-kinami-palm-tree-to-beat-the-heat/ and here for more rigging methods, hooks used and another person catching'em deep. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/105255-fat-ika-for-lm/
  9. I would say Pflueger reels in President, Supreme & Supreme XT hold their own against any other reels in their price range.
  10. Pflueger Supreme XT No reason really to stretch your budget a $125 spinning reel will do just fine if not a little less around $100. I checked the weight of the Lexa DarrenM mentioned and they are 8.1 for the 2000 and 8.9 for the 2500 those would make the feel in hand of the set-up more comfortable.
  11. X2 I have Premier 6'6" MH Fast and youll want about an 8 ounce reel if not a bit more for balance and 2500 size should be in that range. I have Supreme XT at 7.2 ounce and that cutting it real close to being too tip heavy depending on where you like to hold the rod. 7' might pull the tip a bit more this why I say 8oz +.
  12. I tossed to a 15"-16" bass along some cattails and this guy ambushed me.
  13. I got 6# today for $5. Been trying knots and getting 7.5# knot strenght -little disappointed cause my 6# nanofil does better.
  14. '03 Pinnacle Deadbolt Classic
  15. On Knot Wars head to head a, through the eye twice UNI knot, beat the Palomar knot. In my use this uni knot is stronger than a double palomar with my 6# Nanofil. Uni breaks a touch over 9 pounds and the dbl pal breaks at 6 1/2 pounds.
  16. Some braids are noisier than others some fray more than others some bleed more than others some are more limp than others. A person will love brand A while the next person will hate it. Like most things need to try it to form your own opinion. I really like braid on my spinning reels handles so much better.
  17. Will star with 3 lines this year. At ice out on my one of my spinning reels will have Nanofil 6# others PPS8S 10#. Have one bc with new Seaguar Kanzen 15#. My other bc reels will have PPS8S 15#.
  18. How far away do you routinely catch fish? Dont know how accurate Google Earth measurement tool is but tried it out on my favorite lake. There is this aerator out in the "middle" of the lake and the area to each side that I almost always catch fish. The distance reads 124.47' and I know I catch them a bit farther out as well, yellow enclosed area in picture. I read many people say you dont need distance but that just isnt the case 100% of the time. This area has kept me from getting skunked many times. BTW shore fishing only on this lake. So do you have a spot where distance is what gets you the fish?
  19. Thill Gold Medel Supreme Stealth bobber and a 1/32 or 1/16 Mini-Mite jig has worked for me. At times tip with spike/waxworm. This has been gills crappie never caught perch this way. Perch for me have come on nightcrawlers. This bobber uses a slider over a hooked end works well. The one pictured is a bit old and the slider wore out so use a piece of rubber tubing as the slider
  20. Yep the MFR catches them use that too. Rapala has a new UL Crank I bought one but havent tried it yet. Here a pic of some little cranks, they will catch bass as well. Top--Rebel TeenyR Mid left-- Mini Fat Rap Mid right-- Rapals UL Crank Bottom left---BPS XTS Micro Light Bottom Rt--Bitsy Minnow
  21. I too use smaller most of my use is with size 2 but I do have size 1 just cause at the time I needed more they didnt have size 2. Lazer Sharp weedless #2 red.
  22. Little cranks like Strike King Bitsy Minnow work well for gills.
  23. Its not throwing good money away the line could last the life of the reel. Eventually it will get low enough to need backing of some sort but the line will still be good. I have reels with full powerpro on it for 10 years finally it got down to where I used it on another reel with less line capacity. 10-15-20 bucks for years of use isnt much relative to the number of senkos/lures/hooks lost/used in a given year. Just got to look at the glass 1/2 full.
  24. Though this site is free so we dont pay to comment many here, myself included, sure give away free advertising in their testimonials to the products they use ie Shimano, YZ, ABU. I think sites like this are more beneficial to companies than any jersey worn by a person. I come on here everyday and see mutiple posts saying how great product "x" is so try it out. I myself have never seen a person at a lake wearing a jersey. I do see people at BPS Gander and the like with ST Croix sweaters/shirts on and never think whoa they must be sponsored. Just like when I see a Packers jersey on a person at walmart I dont think hey he must play for the Packers. Ill buy whatever I want with my money without care to what others whom I dont know think about it. I would like to have a jersey with Bass Resource,Pinnacle,Okuma,GY,St Croix,SPRO,PowerPro and a few other logos on it. If someday I do and a person sees me and thinks "what a tool" so be it, its their hang-up not mine.
