  1. I double the line over about a foot, pass through the eye twice, 6-7 turn uni knot. Basically the same uni knot I use for fc and braid just double the line is the only other step. I leave about 1/4' tag. I have not lost a fish with this knot. Now I will say stay away from rock it is just slightly more abrasion resistant than braid but that not good even so.
  2. Find a knot that works well and I think its very good line. Ive used 6# for a couple years now and its still good shape. The knot I tie I get 9# strength. I dont use leader and fish very clear water 15' vis. The sensitivity is outstanding better than tightline braid. Its not a supeline that is underrated on strength and thats where I think people find fault. They think no stretch and so it must work like braid well it doesnt. Im working with a true 6# line that doesnt stretch so I back off drag dont horse in the fish play it more. I at times use a moderate action rod for some forgiveness. I caught many fish this past week with the white in clear water senko fishing. I too will be getting the green nano Im down to a little more than a very good cast worth of line. Ill add that my hook-up % at distance is much better with nano than my 10 or 12# FC super sniper even when the fc line is used with stouter rod. couple 3# caught 1st pic caught this week another catch out a good 100' when hooked
  3. And its not just braid, mono & fluoro do the same thing. Backlash with fluoro and kink it its weakened at that point. Mono was the worst for me and one reason for my switch to braid. And braid doesnt have zero shock resistance Ive backlashed 3/4oz spoons and lipless cranks with 15# 20# braid and not snapped them off. Torque that uni is a great knot use it myself only not as many wraps.
  4. /\ Yes slonezp fun catch but it never jumped just thought it would but didnt Out today threw jig spinnerbait and senko got fish on all of 'em, here the biggest 18" 3#
  5. Couple years ago went to set the hook on a bass and BAM ZAP down I went. Lower back went out and in a world of pain and no vicodin with me. Im now crawling to a bench about 75' away praying dont get worse dont get worse. I manage to get to my feet by using the bench to pull up on. Too I had my bike with me so needed to get that now plus my rod/reel with the fish still on it. Im actually telling myself "Its time to MAN UP" make it to the suv 1/4 mile away. I get the bike, go back get the rod, reel in the fish my arms shaking flop the fish back in the lake. Im walking now and feel my back getting tighter and tighter. Im now thinking Im not going to make it so; I get on the bike. The handlebars are helping with support of my back. Im standing up pedaling through the grass for about 100yards til I get to the paved path. Now I can coast for a bit but a slight hill to conquer still, manage that then its downslope to the suv. Im at the suv now and the last part to get done, take the bike wheels off and get the bike in the suv. Im looking around for a person to help me see two older men and my pride took over and so no way could I embarrass myself by asking for help. After each tire comes off I have to brace myself on the trunk to let some pain subside. I dont have much left in me so I brace with one arm and grab bike frame with other and basically toss the frame in the back along with the tires and finally Im getting in to sit. Im taking a few deep breaths a few WTH and some other language and now thinking Im glad I dont have a stick shift anymore. Home I went.
  6. Today one hour before storm 8 bass. Storms for 20 minutes then sun comes out not a nibble the next three hours. Most of the lakes around here close sunset or 10pm so no night fishing them.
  7. Illinois says bluegill/sunfish can be used in the water they are taken out of, not transported to other fisheries.
  8. With the pflueger templar how many brakes do you have turned on?
  9. BAMA BUG senko is my favorite senko. Id throw that with a weedless hook on top of those weeds drag/twitch it across and get better hook-up than with frog. If not getting bit on top of the weeds then let it fall just over the edge of the weeds and work the water column. If it hits bottom I drag/hop it across bottom back to me.
  10. If it makes it more balanced it will help with sensitivity. Why add 3-4oz to rod, with reel, when 1/2-3/4 will do the same the less weight added overall the better. DVT quote http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/86950-tip-heavy/?p=991184 "Weight added weight anywhere on the blank has a negative affect on sensitivity. With that said, a small amount of weight on the butt area would have the least affect and admittedly probably less that human hands could detect" quote from: http://www.***/rod-crafting/resource/articles/rod-balancing.html "Jump Lures Jigs, Worms, Spoons, etc. These are slack line techniques and tip heavy rods can be made more sensitive by adding weight to the butt."
  11. Adding a much heavier reel is adding weight to rod just more weight in different section.
  12. Ill take a well balanced 3.4oz rod(smoke) and 5.5oz reel(core) over well balanced 5oz rod(***) and 8oz reel(tatula). I fished both combos today and the lighter set-up is like an AHHHH moment once picked-up after the heavier combo for 3 hours. Sure I can fish the heavier combo Im not a wimp but the ligher combo has its advantage like BassinLou mentioned. I wouldnt necessarily add a heavier reel to balance a rod. You need much more weight to balance with reel than you will with a weight added to butt of rod. A 1/2-3/4oz weight will replace a 3oz+ diff in reel weight and balcance much better. If youve seen Capt Bob what he did to his extremes thats the way to do it not just use heavier reel. Or the very cheep route and put rubber chair cap on the butt of rod. In this pic the rod is 7'6" even with a 10.6oz Abu 5600 reel it wont be as balanced as what that cap balances the rod with 50E reel.
  13. Ive used the 20 size flooger for a few years now its doing well. Ive caught 2-4# catfish and hundreds of bass 10"-16". For lightweight presentations not a workhorse reel it should work for you. 1/8-3/16 spinnerbaits, SK bitsy minnows, Rapala MFR-3 cranks, nightcrawlers. Its been on croix 7'6" M/f and croix 8' ML/M. It has the same drag as the 25 size and just 10yds less line capacity(100yds/8# braid) weighs 5.9oz. Buy one from Gander mountain and you have 90 days to try it out return if not satisfied. I return my BB1 Pro after 80 days no problem. .http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/Pflueger%C2%AE-President%C2%AE-Spinning-Reel/1280293,default,pd.html#start=8
  14. I was 19 went to see my uncle who lives outside of Topeka KS, -Auburn. He lived on a farm and took me to one of the farm ponds that was on his property. He said it never gets fished and to have at it, he had to go get some work done. I had a chummin minnow spinnerbait and proceeded to catch a bass every cast for a good hour. They were all roughly the same size 18"-19" so no lunkers but still my most memorable trip/outing. That trip was the last time I got to see my uncle as well so I think of it as his last gift to me.
  15. 1. spinnerbait 2. stick/creature OVERALL. creature (kinami palm tree)
  16. I returned it got my money back(well gift card). I bought it at the same time along with a Tatula and Chro CI4. The levelwind on mine seemed more loose than I though it should be. Even the clerk agreed when he checked it after I told him that was one reason for the return. On long casts you could see/feel the thing fluttering side to side as line transferred from left to right of spool. Also my knobs started peeling after just about 4hrs use. My first Lews experience didnt go so well.
  17. Yep mine did the same, mine too had other issues so I returned it.
  18. X2 but in a size 2
  19. Just got home from an outing today and here is what I caught. A big carp with 15# PPS8S Tatula Clarus MH/F combo. I was throwing a RES it was out well over 100' and rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr a great big pull and game was on snagged this gal in the dorsal fin.
  20. X2 on LTB if the grip is too small thats no good. Its also another gripe I have with the overhyped *** black rod. The dia is off and cork portion too short. My favorite casting has split my favorite spinning has full. The style doesnt make a difference to me just its attributes.
  21. Ive caught fish 2 feet from shore in 1 foot of water to 125' out 20' of water. Dragging over top of weedmats or letting it drop into the open pockets. It catches fish anywhere. I tossed spinnerbaits 2+ hours yesterday not a bite. First cast with palm tree(ika) on random long cast out in middle of lake it hit bottom I hopped it once, fish on. Caught 3 more the next 1 1/2 hour with it. Throw it out retrieve it sort of like a jig slowly twitch here and there or quick snap dart it off bottom let fall. You do have to be prepared to hook into them on the fall as well sometimes, so watch the line.
  22. No issues at all balance wise with just one brake. The spool wont spin with lopsided feel or whatnot. Perfectly fine to use one.
  23. I spent an hour and 1/2 or so fishing the CI4 and core 50 side by side with a Booyah Pond Magic 3/16oz spinnerbait actual weight .344oz. I had the CI4 with 2 brakes and 3 on dial the core50 started with 3 then 2 then 1. Strarted off somewhat calm wind then a slightly towards me crosswind that put some ripples on the surface. 3 brakes on the Core50 felt very restricted and even with hard cast was only getting 50' or so. Spend oh 10-15 minute with 3 brakes. Went to 2 brakes and got around 20' more but still well controlled. Set 1 brake and the ease and distance clearly showed improvement and spool still controlled. I was doing easy casts and hard casts getting a feel for the distance. I though I was getting very good distance so changed to CI4. CI4 like mentioned 2 brakes 3 dial very first cast it was apparent that it was blowing away the core50 on 3 & 2 brake setting. Even easy casts were beating hard casts of the core. Grabbed the core50 again 1 brake on threw out hard and right away switch to CI4 and and surpassed the core by a noticeable amount. I tried this back and forth casting a few more times and not once could I get the core farther than the CI4 I say I was quite surprised at this outcome. I thought the core was a great caster but the CI4 shined over it. I then put the CI4 on 1 brake and 4 on dial, no contest the ease and distance without a doubt beat the core hands down. By ease I mean effort casting. I could clearly get equal to better distance with not as hard a cast. The spool control was nearing the edge though on a hard cast. To really get it out there was a bit sketchy at times but doable. More thumb needed at start and then let the spool do its thing. One lure I throw 90% of the time with the core is a Kinami Palm tree so quite familiar with how far I get with it. I put one on the CI4 and a smile came to me it just flew out there very very pleased with this reel. A few noticeable feel attributes the CI4 is a bit bigger in hand and the thumb bar is a little higher off the handle. I too notice the one ounce difference cause the CI4 was on the rod that the core is usually on a 3.4oz smoke rod. So the ahhhh factor of the lightweight not there just a little off from what became normal to my feeling of the core/smoke combo. I had been eyeing another core50 on sale at gander for $270 but my own comparison today has change my mind. So if paying full price $100 more to save an ounce and a bit smaller frame is what youll get but you wont be getting a better casting reel the CI4 takes that category. I didnt try any lighter baits on the CI4 yet like a SK Bitsy Minnow so cant say how very light works but I feel the CI4 will better the core at anything 1/4 and higher.
