I adjust mine for different baits cranks get lighter setting, lipless in grass a little more, frogs heavier setting. If set on light-mid setting and hook into a 20+# carp going to have to tighten down while reeling, done that.

The drag star is the cheapest feeling one Ive ever used always get the feeling its going to snap but it hasnt.

Nightcrawler on #4 hook no weight is great for sight targeting cruiser bass or any bass. I did this for about 3 years 90% of the time on my favorite lake. A river near by flooded into the lake and many a bass must have left cause didnt see still dont see bass near shore cruising like before floods but getting better.

You mention spinnerbaits FYI core50mg7 gets labored with 3/4oz spinnerbaits not good at all, I feel, trying to reel them in. Same here but scratch spider and insert Trilene Pro and Kanzen. The only one I havent liked is Kanzen 15#(weak)

I wouldnt like that at all. If my line is any name 8# it has to test better than 8# in my testing that I perform. Whether its accurate or not I test all my lines with "my test" a digital fish scale, varied lengths of line and hook tied with through eye twice 6 turn uni knot and or palomar knot. I hook into weights and slowly pull up til line snaps/knot gives. If I cant get rated strength with multiple tests I return line or just put it away dont use it. 5- 3/4# for 8# line is awful IMO

For the braid just flip it around put the used portion on reel first. This way the un-used end will now be able to use. I have braid that is 5 to 10 years old and still strong. 2 years is just getting broken in.

I have a few packs of 7" & 5" that havent really used. Well thanks to this thread I took a pack of 7" ochos off the pegboard and wacky rigged one up. I tossed it on some slop and this is the result 18" 3 pounds 1st pic just see the ocho top of my thumb

One aspect I did find that lost me fish is at a fair distance the stretch causes poor hooksets compared with the same rods with braid. I have not noticed an increase in bites either in the clear lakes I fish.

Well Gander once again just had their Core 50mg7 for $280 sold out now that would have been a great buy. Chro CI4 has been an excellent reel for me so far. The 50E reels are very good. Ive bought 5 brands of reels the last 3 years Shimano BPS Okuma Daiwa Lews only kept Shimano reels and one Daiwa reel others had quality durability issues that caused me to return them.

The Smokes seem to be stronger than their classification- Smoke MH actually "rates" stronger than the 714 H- Smoke up to 1-1/2oz lure 25 pound line, 714 1oz and 20 pound line. The other ? is what do you prefer for jigs fast or extra fast cause isnt the 714 XF and Smoke is F? I like Fast rods over XF myself for actual casting so Id put XF for pitching flipping and Smoke for longer casting duties.
